DH has just smashed every single glass we own

... bar the handful that were in the dishwasher.

He was doing some DIY in the kitchen and (don't ask me how) unscrewed the wall mounted kitchen cabinet which holds all of our glasses, including our wedding Waterford Crystal. I wasn't at home at the time but apparently the noise and mess was epic.

No reason for the thread except to to mourn the loss of my lovely crystal wine goblets...

The shock of that must have been awful at the time. Cannot imagine the noise and mess. One glass broken is enough!

Thematriach · 15/10/2022 21:08

There’s your wish list sorted. Replace all the precious glassed and maybe some that you never liked with ones you really want,

Ifeelsuchafool · 15/10/2022 23:04

Had a similar thing except all our Waterford was in a glass cabinet in our sitting room (including several decanters) and a nephew was horsing around and fell right into it, dislodging the top shelf somehow, which crashed down and broke the bottom shelf too! It was all either wedding gifts or handed down, including the cabinet itself, but insurance paid up ok, no particular hassle. So sorry OP I remember how upset I was! Hope you get it sorted! Flowers

Something similar happened to my colleague once, the damage was covered by house insurance (just in case total value of all the crystal was a considerable amount)

It is, perhaps, time to have a long talk about "when to call a handyman." Marshal your resources...get an approximate value on the lost wine glasses, plus "sentimental value" (don't go nuts here). and the cost of a handyman to have done that job.

This exactly

Omg you know what this means....
GLASS WARE AND STEMWARE SHOPPING!!

I'll come with you!

DearSisterMichael · 16/10/2022 08:47

In case you lost a nice jug, these are beautiful: klimchi.com

Dibbydoos · 16/10/2022 10:04

My hubby did the same when I was out, not just Waterford Crystal but a beautiful glass vase my friend who I've lost touch with, bought me in the 90's.

Insurance covered the cost but that vase was irreplaceable.

I feel for you OP. Men and short cuts....

Common sense says he should have emptied the cupboard first

Ironically he emptied the cupboard beside the one the fell off the wall 😀🙄

Anyway, we went out to a really lovely wine bar on Friday night to mourn the loss of our lovely crystal. We toasted the fact that our marriage lasted longer than our wedding present glasses, and we're finding replacements on eBay.

Reminded me of when Linda Barjer smashed that poor woman's teapot collection on Changing Rooms 😔

ShadyHook · 18/10/2022 17:00

I recommend Not Going Out, the one where their kitchen fitter was incompetent and they did it themselve while the wife was out. The end result was superb and the ending even better.

Deathraystare · 19/10/2022 15:56

@LadyMonicaBaddingham

You were ahead of me! I was just thinking about that but could not remember the programme or presenter!
