AirBnB helpfully suggested (whilst her guests were upstairs) that she simply 'not be disabled anymore'

As a disabled person (not terminally like her) I am heartbroken & appalled for her Flowers

@Etak123
There are many ways the arguments from the complaints' side mirror trans ideology; they're so similar I can't help but think they're related.

In this case, the complainants argue that the host is responsible for their feelings and should have changed her behaviour to prevent offence (she should have clarified on her Airbnb listing that she was disabled to protect their feelings). Similarly, the transgender movement seeks recognition and protection from the state through intervention to regulate the behaviour of those outside the identity group. Either it is reasonable to demand restrictions on free expression to prevent offence, or it isn't. What's good for trans ideology is also good for the complainants.

The transgender movement also subscribes to a postmodern hierarchy of truth, where feelings and thoughts 'in here' are more real, true and important than physical things 'out there'. Similarly, the complainants argue that the host's feelings are less important than theirs since the host appeals to a protected characteristic rooted in biological reality, which matters less than their self-identified reality.

The complainants appear to be asking for the Equality Act to be amended to reflect that self-id is more important than biological reality. That is, to have it written in that their feelings trump the disabled host's right not to be discriminated against, which is exactly what the trans movement argues in regard to sex-based rights.

I think this is a way to demonstrate the absurdity of trans ideology without mentioning the word 'trans', which has the propensity to switch off reason in otherwise reasonable people. If a judgement is given, it is highly likely to contradict trans ideology and help support biology-based rights and freedom of expression elsewhere.

If somebody is trying to do this by victimising a person who is dying, that then flips the onlooker's feelings to "people who are trying to do this are the scum of the earth and whatever they want should be immediately thrown out". ie the putative anti-transites in this case would be doing their cause a whole lot of no good.

Unless the dying woman is in on it. Or is an actor (see Sandy Hook massacre/Alex Jones). Or doesn't really exist....

At this point we enter the world of the triple-bluff and ordinary people go away and read a John le Carré book because it is so much simpler.

What?! This is horrible.

AirB&B is a scourge to humanity, the sooner this overpriced, piss poor investo-entitlement shite falls out of existence the better. Christ, remember life before all of this overdriven obnoxious shit? It wasn't too bad, was it?

Along with the staycation craze accelerated by the pandemic, it seems to have injected an even more desperate level of entitlement into those who use them, own them, and the grabby grabby assholes who kick out tenants in the hope of getting their monthly rent weekly. Hi Kendal, I'm nodding at you! Sorry, you'll have to do much better than that if you want me to come and stay in your rainy, freezing cold, Disneyfied mountainous theme park. Uurgh.

Glad to have released that off my chest, lol.

I repeat, it won't get anywhere.

exactly this.
they have no legal basis for their claim.
poor woman!

Most of her reviews on airbnb are fine, someone else mentioned restrictive check in and the now showering at 9.30pm (which isn't mentioned in her listing and probably should be, along with maybe a surcharge if you change your agreed check in time) but other than that all the other reviews are positive.

Not sure whether to read anything in to the person/family making the claim against her are also airbnb hosts in France..with a nice yoga pose photo...ahhhh all those woo therpies and yoga....would the service pet have to do yoga too?

The pictures on the page are a bit odd to me too, but I put that down to her not being able to get up to the room herself. They're a bit abstract.

The French woman's profile looks totally normal, although it came across like the family are quite full on.

You might be right, it's difficult to say without knowing all the details of the case, but there is one point I'm definitely sure of.

Regarding "It couldn't possibly be real" - I could list you a number of very real cases where any sane outside observer could only say "this couldn't possibly be for real".

Sure. However in this particular case based on my knowledge of the law in Ireland, which I have studied. I know for a fact that what she is saying a barrister told her could not possibly have happened. She may as well be claiming Queen Victoria visited the Soviet Union. It's genuinely not even remotely possible.

Could some shitheads decide to sue a disabled woman for spurious reasons as a test case. Sure. Could the specific legal things this woman is claiming are happening, such as precedent based on a law change that never happened? No, it absolutely couldn't have. Clearly. Could this potential case threaten the robustness of a law that doesn't exist in the country it's happening in. Obviously not. Try reading the very, very, very real reasons that this could not possibly be happening as is described.

*I repeat I’m not saying your DD is a bad person at all but come on , in reality people do not vomit because they care."

If her DD sees someone disabled and feels extreme distress for the disabled person, being autistic this could feel so intense as a rush of emotion that she vomits and faints. Quite simple to understand. People who feel strong rushed of emotion, even emotions such as sadness, can vomit and it's nothing to do with disgust.

ps: I found this, but it's from July 2022.

Same case. The video at the top is completely irrelevant to the article. The case we're talking about has been going on since July 22

@hiredandsqueak Ignore the hyperempathetic woman who's so empathetic she knows that the only the correct way to do empathy is the way she does it!

But she's correct though. The way PP describes her daughter's response is not empathy. It's heartbreaking that a child has to go through that but it is not in line with the dictionary definition of empathy or hyper empathy

DysonSpheres · 05/10/2022 16:29

Thanks @Wanderingowl and @Thenose

I certainly won't be signing any petitions until it becomes clear as to what is actually going on and what the agenda is, who it's from, what are the aims, and for what purposes.

It's sketchy at best.

Also consider this sort of culture war stuff is hot topics right now. Yet it hasn't been picked up and mentioned by the Daily failing or any of the other right wing newspapers.

And if all those ignored it, it would certainly be picked up by the large number of private commentators on their Youtube channels who love to jump on these sorts of stories...yet nothing. I subscribe to a fair few just for the sake of it.

It's clearly not what it appears on the surface

Trimalata · 05/10/2022 16:35

There's also a counter-review by Jade on the alleged complainant's page on AirBnB as well as a response by them, some of which potentially contradicts or doesn't tally with her account (not linking because I don't know the rules). This is definitely one where people should be at least a little skeptical of what they're being told.

Facepalmtree · 05/10/2022 16:35

She’s said that reporters are contacting her but she’s telling them they need to wait for all the information. Because they always do that…

I forgot about that! It’s all very strange.

I would love to know AirBnB's side of that allegation. It doesn't ring true to me.

Indeed

CableTidy · 05/10/2022 16:57

I think the eventual review as well as the hosts response was eventually heavily edited and had to be agreed by both sides prior to publication on the site. This was different to the huge list of complaints from the customers side

TinyTear · 05/10/2022 17:04

Does anyone have the airbnb link as my sleuthing isn't getting me anywhere

They and the group supporting them should be charged with a hate crime. Not much in the way of inhumanity surprises me these days but this has. How on earth can you find enough twisted scumbags to actually form a group against disability rights?

Quite!
