Terrible gifts for a middle aged, or older, woman.

Can we make a list? Grin

I’ll start: (This is adult to adult gifts - no judgment regarding presents from children!)

Afternoon tea. Just - why? Not that I don’t like cake and afternoon G&T - but this suggestion is always wheeled out as such a treat, as if one is suddenly too old to get dressed up for a night out.

Mug with a single ‘posh’ teabag. In fact, anything someone else thinks I’ll consider posh - I’m middle aged, I’ve done posh.

Anything at all from Etsy or Not on The High Street. Anything craft-y or home made, unless specifically requested.

Anything ‘safe’ or Angry ‘nice’.

(Please, just stick to Islay single malt, Hermes nail polish, and newly published volumes of art, cookery, fiction or poetry. Thank you.)

I would love an afternoon tea voucher.

I like candles and toiletries if they from favourite brands, but I'm open to trying decent quality brands I haven't tried.

I love gift vouchers for places I shop at.

I love my cat. It doesn't mean I love cat 'stuff'.

I love books, but only ones that I've requested. I'm a slow reader and I want to read books of my choosing. My free time is limited. I have piles of books given to me that people recommend. Most, I will never read.

Ah, good to get that off my chest. Thanks!

Hard to get excited about candles. To me it seems like a very generic "i don't know what to buy her" gift so I will buy a candle...unless of course you have expressed a particular interest in them.
Any gift without thought is awful. My exDH bought me a silver pendant with a treble clef. I don't play musicical instruments. We are not a big music family. I was gobsmacked. It was a last minute. Com panic buy
Yes to
Booze
Slippers -always useful
Afternoon tea or other experiences/concert tickets
Xmas tat - love it

To he honest I am grateful if somebody goes to the effort of buying me a gift and delivering it to me. Its the fact that they have thought about me, even if it is a candle.

I'd quite like National Trust membership!
