Cost of living crisis
Choice between heating v eating
Pound dramatically falling
Higher interest rates
NHS on brink of collapse

And now the warning of a flu-covid “twindemic” this Winter

It’s all quite overwhelming and sad and seems to be never ending 😞

I'm with you OP 😞
Hoping someone will come along and tell us it'll all be over eventually and we might have some normality once again!

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2022 21:43

It's just horrible :(

FeralWitch · 28/09/2022 21:44

I feel like the media have been out of control the past 5 years. Ultimately the media rules the roost in life. If the media could just stop so would do many of our problems.

Isaidnoalready · 28/09/2022 21:45

News is banned my head is firmly in the ground until my fix ends next year

Actually I'm lying I'm cutting costs and saving for next year's gas and electricity bombshell

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/09/2022 21:46

Didn't they say last year to have your covid jab and flu jab?

Celticandco · 28/09/2022 21:47

Fairly obvious to have your flu and Covid jabs I'd have thought.

movingsky · 28/09/2022 21:48

I've just decided to read the newspaper I subscribe to in the mornings only. Switch to a book in the evening.
Honestly, I am finding it all very stressful.

Why?

BloodyHellKen · 28/09/2022 22:05

I'm getting on a bit and have been around the block many times OP. If it's any consolation my attitude is 'meh' to the whole situation.

I've lived through better and I've lived through worse and I'm not going to get stressed and sad because what is the point.

Yes but last year we had the omicron lockdown but not a lockdown so people limited contacts, were still wearing masks, were freshly vaccinated etc.

now, our boosters are wearing off, people are not wearing masks and carrying about as normal.

verdantverdure · 28/09/2022 22:07

I've never lived through a worse time.

I’m not meh, I’m angry. I’ve got two young kids and I just think great. Another generation fucked by the Tories (I grew up under Thatcher/Major)

How would that have helped the situation today where the Bank of England had to use £65billion of our own money to stop the pension companies going bust and protect us from our own governments actions?

AffronttoBS · 28/09/2022 22:14

i do t watch the news, MSM is driving mass panic , one crisis after another, whether real or not is irrelevant. Remember loo roll crisis, panic buying, petrol shortage crisis not so long ago? It’s like MSM realise the power they have to fabricate a crisis , to destabilise and they use it to create fear and drama and news because they know they can now, since the last few years. We will never be short of a crisis, so it will be one after another, because the climate crisis will always be there, it has no end goal, so that will be a permanent fixture to keep people in fear.

Luxurysleuth007 · 28/09/2022 22:16

It all just feels very bleak. You can’t hide away from it either. Literally one thing after another after another.

Covid
Cost of living disaster
Destroyed Pound
Ukraine / Russia
Liz Truss
Interest rates
NHS cutbacks
Brexit
Climate change
Breakdown of society

What scares me is what will be the final straw before the shit really hits the fan?

akabluebell · 28/09/2022 22:17

Yes been here before under Thatcher, when interest rates increased to 26% for a few days in an attempt to stabilise the economy. The problem here is worse, we have had 3 issues which have seriously affected the economy, Brexit, Covid/lockdowns and now a Tory government that doesn't have a clue. The perfect storm that is taking this country down.

It will all be fine in the long run once we get rid of the tories in 24. But now, particularly if Kwarteng is sacked, a u turn is on the cards because Truss has few choices and that is the only option that involves her remaining as PM.

acs17 · 28/09/2022 22:19

@AffronttoBS this! Interesting take on MSM in 'A state of Fear' Laura Dodsworth. Only read a small bit then got side tracked but it's as you say.

Ffs, you are seriously under the illusion this is the media's inappropriate reporting? You are on a different planet. This is an economic disaster for the UK.

If it makes you feel better get angry 😂 I also grew up under Thatcher and I wouldn't consider I was 'fucked' because of it but each to their own I suppose.

mondaytosunday · 28/09/2022 22:21

These things do seem to come in waves. I remember other times when it all seemed doom and gloom.

I'm with @AffronttoBS . It's a media thing, mass-generated fear and scandal.

Expectations lead to economic decisions lead to people's lived reality.

Thanks I didn’t know about that book.

I know people might think I’m a bit conspiracy theorist, but I do think ‘blob’ was out to get Trump, Boris, now Liz and Mark my words, Giorgio will be next. MSM and big tech and their agenda are driving the western hive mind.

verdantverdure · 28/09/2022 22:26

So, if I stop watching the news my mortgage rate won't go up and I won't be repossessed?

If the £ crashed to its lowest level ever but nobody reported it it wouldn't have happened and everything wouldn't be going up because of it?

Do me a favour.
