Cost of living crisis
Choice between heating v eating
Pound dramatically falling
Higher interest rates
NHS on brink of collapse

And now the warning of a flu-covid “twindemic” this Winter

It’s all quite overwhelming and sad and seems to be never ending 😞

There's always been good and bad times, but social media makes it seem worse.

YukoandHiro · 28/09/2022 22:28

Don't stress about the twindemic thing - it's a great headline and so gets a lot of coverage but it's actually just a push from
The nhs to get everyone to have their boosters and flu jabs.
Get every jab your eligible for and do your bit, but don't panic unnecessarily

YukoandHiro · 28/09/2022 22:29

@whoopdedo pretty sure it was the PM and the chancellor that crashed the pound, not the media.

Even if I did not watch the news I would still be worried.
I can see food prices and fuel prices rising and shortages of food on shelves.

@whoopdedo pretty sure it was the PM and the chancellor that crashed the pound, not the media.

They just triggered something that's been in the pipeline for a while now. We all knew that a recession would happen and then it takes a trigger to spook the markets before it all tumbles. Just like 2008, just like every historical downturn...if they hadn't triggered this, something else would have.

Pinkpeony2 · 28/09/2022 22:42

Look, there are a fair few unfortunate things that has caused this economic crisis.
No denying that.
BUT the media since covid have massively ramped up the fear. It’s literally panic stations over absolutely everything and those who are easily anxious or who read the news at face value are getting very much affected.
Once the fear level has ‘run out’ on one topic, is straight ok to the next. And people are lapping it up because we have all been shaken to our core over recent years on how quickly the whole country can suddenly change.
One week work, school, enjoying yourself out and about. The next lockdown and you can’t even drive where you want anymore or see your mum/ dad / family for weeks and months. Then it happens again and again.
Totally destabilising. MSM is playing that for all it’s worth. Relishing every drop of panic and fear. Living off your worries in the hope that you will click and watch.
Turn it off. Turn off all notifications on your phone / laptop. Don’t go to any news apps or websites.
Anything really important you will find out about via mumsnet or other social media or someone will tell you.
Live your life the best you can. Enjoy each day and take pleasure in the small things.
It feels so so much better to turn it off.

Absolutely this. Never mind anything else, people will die this winter because of the media. No exaggeration.

akabluebell · 28/09/2022 23:12

Yes let's all bury our heads In the sand and hope it all goes away. Actually you do that, me, I'll be keeping up to date with current affairs so I am informed and can ensure I can continue to enjoy the fruits of my labour by making decisions to protect my finances.

Really?

So you watching financial sources stops you being affected by global problems?

This will be the third winter that the media have been warning about a 'twindemic' and so far it hasn't happened. Why are they so desperate for it to be a thing? Fear sells

2021

Anon778833 · 29/09/2022 02:27

I think we’re all feeling pretty bleak about everything. However, one day at a time. Things have to get better eventually. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway!!

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 02:41

I'm thinking of starting a search party to find out new PM. Anyone seen her since last Friday ?

No. We had protections in place. We don’t now!

And then people will keep voting for governments which perpetuate this shit show. Until they’re directly affected and say “why didn’t any one tell me”.

Northbynorthbreast · 29/09/2022 07:16

they are a bunch of bloody oligarchs. Who sells their entire country down the drain for the sake of some already incredibly rich bankers? What kind of person does that? It’s a disgrace.

Don’t read the news.
One foot in front of the other.

This. Avoid the news

Explaintome · 29/09/2022 07:23

It's all cyclical. We've been here before and for lots of people it was flippin' awful. There are always some who do well out of a bad situation. I'd like to say we came through it, but of course some didn't/ don't, but overall, it will pass. We need to hang on in there.

Kissingfrogs25 · 29/09/2022 07:24

I feel sorry for you, you sound depressed.
It won't be anywhere as bad as you think it will be.

As usual this is a political thread posted to create a feeling of doom and gloom. Sorry to tell you but a world wide recession is about to happen everywhere, but it doesn't mean your life is over, and we might well swerve the worst of it anyway.

hedgehogscrossing · 29/09/2022 07:25

@BloodyHellKen thank god a voice of reason.

Kissingfrogs25 · 29/09/2022 07:27

The 'twindemic' was created by the media and nudge think tanks to get older people to have their covid vaccines now to avoid putting pressure on the NHS!!

There hasn't been a big take up so far of either vaccine, so they are trying to prompt elderly people to get themselves protected!

It will not affect normal, healthy people as we can weather both fairly easily, assuming you are not elderly or CEV op.

As a child who grew up under Thatcher in a poor household, I beg to differ. It’s the children who will experience that and are experiencing it now that make me feel sick.

And by poor I mean poor. Sometimes we would have only flour and porridge in the house with no means to cook it. The fridge would be empty. And I would go around to friends houses and it would be the same story as mine.

So to me, it is very real. Those who downplay it are those who are the ones in denial.

Kissingfrogs25 · 29/09/2022 07:29

I recommend Classic FM, beautiful soothing - a world away from the shrill hysterical ranting on the BBC and Sky. Your life will be transformed immediately and everything will feel so much better instantly.

PinkPlantCase · 29/09/2022 07:30

I agree that it’s shit OP, I can’t wait for a general election.

But you only get 1 life. I’m in my late 20s with toddler DC, I won’t get this time again, I’m not going to spend it being depressed about things I can’t control.

Eve · 29/09/2022 07:30

Luxurysleuth007 · 28/09/2022 22:16

It all just feels very bleak. You can’t hide away from it either. Literally one thing after another after another.

Covid
Cost of living disaster
Destroyed Pound
Ukraine / Russia
Liz Truss
Interest rates
NHS cutbacks
Brexit
Climate change
Breakdown of society

What scares me is what will be the final straw before the shit really hits the fan?

wait til they start the bonfire of workers rights.
