I home school my two teens.

Every couple of weeks I give them a conspiracy theory to look up, write a bit about, and give me their opinion on, and reasons for that opinion. It helps them with research and critical thinking (I hope).

I've done a lot of the obvious ones, New world order, 9/11, JFK assassination, some of the denial ones in WW2 etc.

I'm running out of ideas for other ones, preferably that incorporate history, geography etc, or just ones that are a bit out there or interesting.

Diana been killed by Philip. He issued the kill order due to her boyfriends heritage.

this ^

but particularly look at why 15 of the cctv cameras were turned off that night, why the crash was in a tunnel & lastly why the injuries we’re survivable

the princes in the tower - is that historic conspiracy theories?

The CCTV cameras were not turned off.
The crash was in a tunnel because that's where the driver lost control and hit the pillar.
Diana wasn't wearing a seatbelt...

blackheartsgirl · 28/09/2022 20:48

What’s the liz truss conspiracy theory. I’ve googled but can’t see much

GeorgeorRuth · 28/09/2022 20:51

Flat earth
Chemtrails
Covid
Illuminati

Favourite ones to wind up the conspiracy theorist at work

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 28/09/2022 20:52

@KitchiHuritAngeni Have you seen any of the Oxford union and Cambridge union debates? Your teens might like them.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 28/09/2022 20:55

Chemtrails. I argue with my mum about this all the time. ( she thinks they might be poisoning us all...)

AllThatHoopla · 28/09/2022 20:56

There is a case at the moment in America about the Sandy Hook conspiracy. The families of the victims are suing a man who has made a lot of money from the conspiracy theory.

It's absolutely fascinating to see the things he says just like 'why were 15 cameras turned off the night Princess Diana died' upthread.

And more importantly how he has monetised it.

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 28/09/2022 21:04

Dustification of the Twin Towers in 9/11. Dr Judy Wood thinks it was some kind of seismic weapon. Video evidence too.

BlueThursday · 28/09/2022 21:16

Jill Dando was killed by MI5 because she knew too much about the Brixton nail bomber.

whilst I don’t necessarily believe that, I’m totally on board with police/security services/murdoch all having ties.

the Daniel Morgan murder and all the crossover between News International, Crime Watch and the Met definitely are more than coincidence

queenofarles · 28/09/2022 21:34

Jill died because she knew too much, but it wasn’t about the Brixton nail bomber.

Not that long ago there was a 5-year project on Conspiracy Theories at Cambridge University

There are links to some of the talks here. Depending on the ages of your children the talks might be too advanced (they are aimed at academics, but not of any particular discipline and I managed to keep up 😀), but their titles might suggest some more conspiracy theories to investigate.

Shlomping1234 · 28/09/2022 21:49

That the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics was predictive programming of the covid pandemic.

SilverSilverStreet · 28/09/2022 21:51

Click on any of the talks and there’s a list of categories of conspiracy theories on the right hand side, here, for example.

CassandraBarrett · 28/09/2022 21:52

JFK obv.
And Marilyn Monroe knew too much. Her death was not an accidental overdose
Many many Europeans had reached America before Columbus. I think this is historical fact rather than CT though

Why would you teach this shit to home schooled young people?

Why would you teach this shit to home schooled young people?

Gov't departments, military, various agencies all have various projects that are classified, and sometimes the projects are real, but as they say a person can be smart, but once group think happens then it can be risky depending on the project, but sometimes some conspiracy theories are accurate.

I haven't, I'll go look them up, thank you.

@SilverSilverStreet thanks for the link.

Jill Dando is a good one to look at too, as is chemtrails, I've been down a few rabbit holes with that one, some of it is bizarre, there are genuine groups who don't think they are killing us, but making under 25s gay as population control 🤣

I'm not teaching "this shit". I'm teaching them to look at a subject, research all sides of that subject, come to a conclusion based on their research, and evidence why they came to that conclusion 🙄

Don’t know what I’ve been doing with my time as not heard of some of these. Well that’s tomorrow night planned out.

HappyMarriage · 28/09/2022 22:12

Titanic being switched is an interesting one. I think there is a documentary about it in you tube that we watched and some of the circumstantial evidence seems quite convincing

ivykaty44 · 28/09/2022 22:16

The CCTV cameras were not turned off.

so if they weren’t turned off is the footage from those cameras?

SecretMoomin · 28/09/2022 22:18

Missing 411 is a decent rabbit hole, lots of stories, very intriguing.

Alien stuff seems to be entangled within lots of other conspiracies - government secrets, JFK assassination (apparently he wanted to talk publicly about aliens and had to be stopped), Antarctica, ancient aliens, underground aliens (contributing to Missing 411, Denver airport and others). Many, many happy hours to be spent!

I haven't heard of that one. Looks interesting. Guess I won't be sleeping tonight then, too many conspiracy theories to look up now 🤣🤣

Family friend is a complete ship buff - he’s autistic and Titanic/Olympic are his special interests.

He’s collected memorabilia for years, his house is like a museum. He is absolutely convinced that it wasn’t Titanic that went down.

Area 51
Sandy hook

What makes you think Sandy hook is a conspiracy? Not that I’m disagreeing but I’ve never heard that before?
