They did you proud, you don't speak for others.

Dear God , anything else you'd like to split hairs with ? It's not literal
Honestly I really don't think this is the thread for you

I'm not

The rest of the world must think we're absolutely nuts!

So nuts that no-one turned down an invitation!

MervynPumpkinhead · 19/09/2022 17:43

It's so refreshing to see a thread where a poster is proud to be British in this sad time for the majority of the country.

Prinnny · 19/09/2022 17:46

Same, I really feel the same! Brits can be the best in the world, the organisation and workmanship was impeccable. We did her proud today, rest easy Ma’am.

whatsup00 · 19/09/2022 17:46

I wish I could read just one thread without a discussion that degenerates into disagreement, snarking - not normal debate and discussion but actual people being mean, trying to hurt others, intentionally trying to stir things up and start arguments, derail the thread and be nasty.

I'm out for now - too much negativity. Things are hard enough at the moment without this on top. Just wanted a normal discussion...

PomRuns · 19/09/2022 17:47

Agree, wonderful, so very beautiful to watch. It was very emotional.

Come over to the funeral threads. Pretty much all positivity tbf I should have stuck with that too. These are typically depressing although glad to see other nice posts come up

So agree with . Just remember MN people are not representative of those in RL .

since I watched that Simon Pegg programme - I view some posts with suspicion ….

For those who are proud to be British the BBC is reporting 63% of the worlds population watched or streamed todays events . Billions of people .
So those people on this thread who loved todays pageantry , ceremony and respect are in the vast majority.

hattie43 · 19/09/2022 17:57

5.1 billion people watched today

You can love pageantry, ceremony and respect without being proud, or proud to be British. They’re not related at all. I watched it and was engrossed and moved, but not proud.

I'm embarrassed by the sea of mobile phones as the coffin goes by. What have we become?

<clutches pearls>

Yep :(

hattie43 · 19/09/2022 18:02

@WildfellAnne

Luckily you're the minority

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 19/09/2022 18:06

It was a marvellous send off but it could have been a bit shorter. Sorry.

It was interesting and moving , at times, but I felt that there was a teensy bit of disrespect.
I've said , on another thread, that people were urged not to throw flowers for safety's sake ( and presumably for the sake of more money spent on clearing it up) but people continued to do so.

Seeing a young lady smiling happily whilst taking a selfie as the courtege went past was a low moment.

FreyaStorm · 19/09/2022 18:07

The UK became a very different place during her reign and not for the better in a few ways.

Hopefully the tradition, history and ceremony of today will reignite some pride in many.

If we carry on as we are it’s unlikely that William, let alone George, would have this kind of send off.

GreenLunchBox · 19/09/2022 15:36

True

Well some other countries are better at it, many are worse at it.

KetoSlawrus · 19/09/2022 18:09

I'm not, but then I've been working in a food bank which had over 200 attendees today... (and that was not the actual number who will benefit from it)

AndTwoFilmsByFrancoisTruffaut · 19/09/2022 18:13

Nope. Not remotely proud. Bored, yes. Proud? Definitely not. Looking forward to life going back to normal.

I volunteer at a food bank and a few years ago Princess Anne came to have a look around. The irony was not lost on us.

Toomanybooks22 · 19/09/2022 18:16

Very proud to be British today, it was a magnificent ceremony.

Ah but you actually do have every right to feel proud. For doing something positive for society today.

Sitting at home watching a rich old lady’s funeral on tele is really nothing to be proud of 🙄 I’m proud that we have wonderful people like you in this country.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 19/09/2022 18:19

iamsmaller1 · 19/09/2022 15:36

Tax payers paid for the whole thiong. Yes not that much each, but overall a lot! And the principle of paying for a billionaires funeral when we can't be arsed keeping our less well off alive with things like heating makes me ashamed to be British

This! Someone local to me is funding their daughters funeral through a go fund me page as they can’t afford the funeral cost. The inequality is uttterly gross.

KillerQueenGunpowderGelatine · 19/09/2022 18:29

They cancelled people's oncology appointments for the pathetic display of bread and circuses you were thrown today.

But don't let that get in the way of your bowing and scraping.

Pathetic.

Lies. Oncology has ran as normal in my area, as has life saving surgery, so whatever your source is, if you even have one, it is incorrect.
