I agree OP.
It's been beautiful to watch.

I've enjoyed learning about the origin and history of all the various rituals and traditions too.

BayMareAlert · 19/09/2022 15:53

Hmm @Yeahrepublic about the service and respect to our Queen
It's a positive thread
Give over about anything else or just don't respond - you must have better things to do , like seeing to your verrucas or something b?

Your positivity re anything to do with Britain will fill the thread with the opposite... good luck ;

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/09/2022 16:03

@MarshaBradyo - That’s great. Although billions are watching so maybe not everyone feels it’s nuts

I would never presume to speak for everyone so I'll change "Yes we do" to "Everyone I know does"

cushioncovers · 19/09/2022 16:04

I've always been proud to be British, today even more so.

DysonSpheres · 19/09/2022 16:05

It's something we do well and for that I'm proud. Absolutely.

You don't get to decide how people respond.

If you'd like to post unchallenged then maybe seek out 'we❤️royals.com or something.

You can also be proud of the pomp and ceremony us British are famous for but ashamed of the way normal people are expected to live - it's not mutually exclusive

Actually I think in lots of ways, it is.

We are taught to follow, not question, stay silent and accept how society is and not consider there are other ways to live and be governed.

It's all part of the ways in which citizens are kept small and voiceless.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 19/09/2022 16:08

It's made me very proud to be British OP 🇬🇧

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 19/09/2022 16:11

Proud to be British? No. The only reason I'm watching any of it is because I'm interested in the fact that it's history in the making.

Same. It's so fascinating. But this isn't what we should be remembered for.

Oh I know we get told a lot on mn we’re nuts or other derogatory thing all the time.

I’ll just take the day as it. They did a great job in front on the world stage. Impeccably grand

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 19/09/2022 16:17

Even if we’re not proud of what’s going on in our country right now we can still be proud of our Queen and our Armed Forces.

Of course I don't, that's why I challenged you
It's been a sad & emotional day for a lot of us
Grow up and show some respect
Our services have done us proud
Not an inch of error

I'm not British (by birth at least, officially I am) but I think it was a lovely ceremony. I hated all the hype and not being able to read any other news and I hate funerals.
But the whole thing was very ceremonial and regal.

Off to have a cup of tea.
Smile

AnneBoIeyn · 19/09/2022 16:27

I hate to piss on people's chips but I'd be far prouder of being British if we'd spent the millions this cost (not to mention the cost of the RF generally) on investing in the NHS, education, MH provision, refuges, making sure people didn't die in poverty and so on. That would be the mark of a truly great country, and somewhere I'd actually be proud to be from.

It's all affectionate. It's a bit like watching the eccentric relative that you're really fond of.

Wafflesnsniffles · 19/09/2022 16:30

Gorgeous all of it. Immensely moving and respectful along with all the usual pomp and ceremony. Im so glad Ive been able to watch it all (10-5 by the time Im done) and my teen daughter has been watching it with me too.

NotaFR · 19/09/2022 16:34

iamsmaller1 · 19/09/2022 15:36

Tax payers paid for the whole thiong. Yes not that much each, but overall a lot! And the principle of paying for a billionaires funeral when we can't be arsed keeping our less well off alive with things like heating makes me ashamed to be British

Agreed. I'm embarrassed it's cost billions not to mention the impact of delayed operations etc. Yet we can't provide for people in a cost of living crisis.
The very fact we're paying for it when the Royal family themselves have billions is scandalous. They aren't even contributing.
She was 96 and died in comfort. I'm sorry a family have lost someone and she was remarkable but we shouldn't be paying for this spectacle in the current climate.

Bit superior, I can’t imagine it would go down well if reversed

but If that’s why you’re watching then fill your boots

The singing is beautiful atm I’m sure a huge amount are enjoying it rather than finding it eccentric

Exactly. I work in a global role and modern UK is not thought of well in this world anymore, recent events such as brexit, handling of covid, treatment of refugees, cost of living crisis, and our piss poor choices of PMs etc have made us a global laughing stock.

The Queen was well known only due to her length of reign and the wide extent of British colonisation, that is now gone and will never be repeated. We are hanging onto our reputation by our fingernails and the royal family tourist attraction is now on the same level as Disney in US.

Mamamia7962 · 19/09/2022 16:51

Survey99 - Stop talking crap.

fiftytontheresa · 19/09/2022 16:53

@Survey99 absolutely. Putting on a first class state funeral is very impressive, but in no way at all does it make up for the seismic fuck up and worldwide PR disaster and embarrassment that was Brexit.

Yeahrepublic · 19/09/2022 16:55

@BayMareAlert I'm grown up enough to understand what really matters.

Grown up enough to know that these people don't give a flying shit about you or me because if they did they wouldn't have numerous homes empty (except for staff) whilst people desperately need homes.

Maybe you don't work in a sector where people can't get the services and help they need but those of us that do might have different priorities.
