I am OP, I agree about the phones though. I mean how many of these clips will be on Facebook in the next ten minutes. The trouble with filming anything is you actually miss seeing it as it is. You see a clip through the camera lens and you could have watched it on tv instead. I’m pretty sure actually watching it would have been a better experience.

Joystir59 · 19/09/2022 15:39

Not feeling proud of all the phones held up, the clapping and cheering ffs

Fupoffyagrasshole · 19/09/2022 15:40

its embarrassing tbh.

And (especially since they pulled the gun carriage) the Army, the RAF and the Police. DS is hoping to join the RAF and I’d have been so proud of that was him!

It was the Naval Ratings who pulled and stopped the gun carriage as they've done since Queen Victoria. Army and RAF accompanied them.

Sorry yes I meant to write Navy 🙈🙈🙈

devildeepbluesea · 19/09/2022 15:41

I’m particularly proud of myself for having avoided every second of the whole bunfight.

KimberleyClark · 19/09/2022 15:35

Probably not. Yet other countries seem to much better than at providing healthcare, good public transport, electing decent leaders etc. We are crap at those things.

Hear hear, I couldn't be more ashamed to be British.

Yeahrepublic · 19/09/2022 15:42

I'm not sure what the pride is for?
The ability to spend a shitload of money and arrange a lot of pomp and pageantry? Really.
This isn't a criticism of the state funeral but utter confusion about where pride comes in.

I'd be proud of a country that didn't need people to rely on foodbanks, unsafe and insecure housing, where nurses aren't so poorly paid they rely on UC and other benefits, where the rich and privileged aren't prioritised time and time again.

How about a society where you don't need to pay privately to get the health treatment you need.
Where schools meet our children's individual needs and works for them and not the shitty system.

That stuff I could be proud of. Today, as with most days I feel shame that we won't (not can't) do better for ordinary people.

DownNative · 19/09/2022 15:42

Very proud of all the British Armed Forces Tri-Service AND all the Commonwealth Nations' military representatives who took part.

A credit to all!

BayMareAlert · 19/09/2022 15:43

Different argument @iamsmaller1 , but feel free to start your own post if you feel so strongly

I have no money either but there's no doubt it was wonderful

Why should they start another thread, why are they not allowed to counter your declaration on this thread?

Topgub · 19/09/2022 15:33

I'm not

The rest of the world must think we're absolutely nuts!

Yep, we do 😀

When the queen died, there was an initial reaction of respect her in Ireland, particularly after her behaviour when she visited Ireland. But after a day or so, I've been watching this with a mixture of incredulity and bemusement. Just when you think the batshiterry has reached peak insanity, something else comes along to outdo the last one. Things like British cycling, Centre Parks, Heathrow, the queues etc. Some of the threads on here are amazing too.

And yes, I know I should just go away and not bother reading (and certainly not contribute) but it is all very entertaining.

we're really not... could we be better? yeah, probably. Are we crap? No.

MermaidEyes · 19/09/2022 15:47

It's a lot of pomp and pageantry, but I'm seriously impressed with how it seems to have gone without a hitch. All those hundreds of people involved in the processions, not a foot wrong. The sheer amount of planning it must have taken. I have seen a few Americans on twitter in serious awe of it all.

roarfeckingroarr · 19/09/2022 15:49

We have a more generous welfare state than most of the world. We have free healthcare at the point of use. We have free education.

Jesus, so many people doing the UK down. Get a grip.

Yes we do

That’s great. Although billions are watching so maybe not everyone feels it’s nuts.

workiskillingme · 19/09/2022 15:53

Enjoy it for now. Everyone will soon go back to being ashamed when the vulnerable die from not being able to eat and freeze to death later this year

Georgeskitchen · 19/09/2022 15:53

Didn't take long for the misery mongers to piss on your parade OP. Nobody has paid any extra tax and just for the record Britain isn't the only country on its arse atm, most of the world is. Ever heard of global recession? Covid? Putin?
If you ain't happy why don't you fuck off to somewhere your human rights will be on the same level as dogshit? There are plenty, believe me!!

BayMareAlert · 19/09/2022 15:53

Hmm @Yeahrepublic about the service and respect to our Queen
It's a positive thread
Give over about anything else or just don't respond - you must have better things to do , like seeing to your verrucas or something b?

Lol not really how discussion boards work

Nowheretoogo · 19/09/2022 15:55

god save the queen!

Radiatorvalves · 19/09/2022 15:56

It’s a good send off as you’d expect. However, does it make me proud to be British? Not so sure.

I’m a low-key royalist and ex forces, but currently I’m not proud to be British. Back in 2012 with the Olympics in London and the amazing atmosphere - yes. In recent years no. I’ve recently received my Irish passport and am thinking of retiring abroad. It’s nothing to do with the queen or royal family - but brexit and the hideous government that seems hell bent on dividing the nation.

Topgub · 19/09/2022 15:56

Not paid any extra

Yet!

The bills in the post.

And respect for what?

Well they can obviously, but it's not what this thread is about is it ?
So they are free to start their own
I love the pomp & ceremony- it's amazing
Respect to them all

People camped out in tents to get front row seats to see the queen's coffin at the same time actual homeless people are moved on by the police to protect the optics.

Nope, doesn't make me proud of Britain at all.
