What's suddenly not in shops near you?

I've been trying to buy cream of tartar for all of September. None in Coop or Tesco in three towns. A friend bought the only tub on the shelves of an upmarket foodie shop further afield today. She lent me it so I could take what I needed for scones promised for a village event, but she wanted it back. There's bicarb soda and baking powder - why no cream of tartar?

Persil bio powder seems to have vanished here. I’ve been looking for weeks. I finally found a box in the Range of all places and did a little happy dance. Ds has awful reactive skin and it’s the only one that doesn’t break him out

Sparkling water

Mitchum solid deodorant

Is that the one people recommend for those with strong BO issues? if so which one exactly please?

Pashazade · 16/09/2022 07:07

My Sainsbury's appears to have stopped selling Clipper tea, Heinz ravioli and Schwartz packet mixes, the range of everything is getting smaller and smaller

Omg 😂🤣, I thought that too!!! Haven’t seen a Fruit Club in a very very long time

AwfulTed · 16/09/2022 07:13

Solid mitchum, and I had to go Tesco for a baby boy card - after trying Clinton’s and two independents, odd

Debsdonein · 16/09/2022 07:13

Wood based cat litter.

Coffee Mate, or any own brand coffee whitener. I don’t like milk in coffee so only this will do.

Strange you should mention Coffee Mate, there was none in my Tesco either, I asked where it had gone, apparently they are changing packaging and it will be a smaller size, from 500g to 450g when it reappears on the shelves. I bet that change won’t be reflected in the price though.

@keeprunning55 yes, pain au chocolat also the same in Aldi. Fuck knows where it’s gone?

Plenty in our aldi! But ours have stopped vanilla tear and share brioche. I think it's store choice rather than shortage?

Strawberry milk powder. DD has been craving some after being poorly and it's nowhere.

Aldi!

TooHotToTangoToo · 16/09/2022 07:22

Tinned fruit, only cocktail salads are left

Comedycook · 16/09/2022 07:26

My local lidls never seem to have their own brand ketchup at the moment. I ended up spending £3.50 on a bottle of heinz! Ketchup is a non negotiable in my house!

MrsLannister · 16/09/2022 07:27

No supernoodles here for weeks, how my teen is coping is beyond me 😭

ilovebagpuss · 16/09/2022 07:30

Sachets of custard powder. I'm sure all the take us back to 1950, put a jumper on, it's only ice, in my day people will be happy to make from scratch from the tub of powder rather than criticise Brexit. I hate making custard so there.
Also just so many things are sparse or not much choice not like lovely Spain (move there then if you like it so much, no I'd like my country to have full and interesting food shops thanks if that's not too much to ask)
My local Sainsburys has condensed so many shelves now where you used to have a whole aisle of choice now it's 2 packets of the item.
Chocolate that's another one
Cat food
Ham
Super noodles
Eggs
Not always out of stock but on a rotation.

Can't get any solid deodorant in my area. Has been that way for months.
Ditto Chappie.

I can get Chappie but the price increases have been crazy.
£4.65, then £5.85, then £6.80, and most recently, £7.20 for a six pack.

LaMariposa · 16/09/2022 07:38

Tinned fruit is the one we miss. I use to make jelly with runner summer berries or raspberries in for puddings quite often. Not seen the tins around for ages.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/09/2022 07:39

Bears. Even though bear baiting was made illegal in 1835, I haven't seen any bears in the shops for a long time. In fact i can't remember when I last saw one.

Oh there's one! 🐻

Cheap canned chickpeas.

Apparently there is a global shortage of chickpeas coming.

Try Lidl. I just bought several tins about a week ago.

FindingMeno · 16/09/2022 07:40

Oh, and drivers been in short supply too.
Had real problems with deliveries being late or cancelled because of lack of drivers.
No chicken at all last week.

Calmdown14 · 16/09/2022 07:41

To be honest this thread shows things are not as bad as first predicted, although the effects of the Ukraine war will take a long time to catch up (not least with animal feed and fertilizer pushing up prices).

We are in a fairly privileged position when it's minor annoyances we are complaining about!

But to join the thread our local Aldi didn't have beans yesterday. First time so probably a delivery issue

TheDogsMother · 16/09/2022 07:42

Schweppes Slimline Tonic. The only ones around are the lemon flavoured ones and even they are running out. The price has shot up too.

AhaTopTrump · 16/09/2022 07:45

PMSL I didn’t really understand what was meant by fruit clubs till I saw your response - agree, nasty raisin-infested things. I thought perhaps the poster meant enormous fresh fruit kebabs of some sort and was struggling to picture that being a “thing”!

HikingBoots · 16/09/2022 07:51

This was the Aldi dairy section last week...I took a photo to show my husband!
There are always a couple of sections like this - totally empty. I'm sure they then fill them up later in the day/the next day, but you certainly can't go in with a rigid idea of what meals you're going to cook - you need a plan B and C!
