What's suddenly not in shops near you?

I've been trying to buy cream of tartar for all of September. None in Coop or Tesco in three towns. A friend bought the only tub on the shelves of an upmarket foodie shop further afield today. She lent me it so I could take what I needed for scones promised for a village event, but she wanted it back. There's bicarb soda and baking powder - why no cream of tartar?

I work in a supermarket and the only thing I'm aware of is fairy liquid due to cap change. No other shortage.

Sunshinebluebells · 15/09/2022 23:29

Chive and onion New York bagels. Plenty of the plain and cinnamon ones.

Where is all the Dijon mustard?

Ukraine is by far the biggest producer of mustard seeds, hence the shortage.

They also produce loads of sunflower products, so a big impact on cooking oil market.

MadisonAvenue · 15/09/2022 23:30

Coffee Mate, or any own brand coffee whitener. I don’t like milk in coffee so only this will do.

No mince pies in my local co-op - driving me mad as I really wanted to get some for someone as a joke gift. FFS you usually can't move for the things mid September!

I think they got delisted at co op.

Vegetable oil is usually made from rapeseeds too, so essentially the same thing (unless you want the cold presses posh rapeseed oil)

I've only ever seen it in glass bottles and it's expensive compared to veg oil. The dog gets the posh stuff to help with his skin/coat from allergies. Us minions have to make do.

Its actually one thing I won't budge on with the increasing prices.... Pets, who'd have them!!

Can't get any solid deodorant in my area. Has been that way for months.
Ditto Chappie.

Solid deodorant should be making a come back soon (I got the Sure one with my Tesco delivery at the weekend). It used to be made in Russia, but they’ve switched production to Italy!

RicherThanYew · 15/09/2022 23:36

Bright orange processed toxic macaroni cheese in a box. I make my own with fresh pasta and 4 kinds of cheese but it isn't the bloody same and I've looked everywhere within 15 miles 🤬 also at one point, sandwich pickle was OOS in Lidl and my nearest shop after that wanted £3 a jar, Rockefeller I ain't.

Caviar. I'm beginning to despair

I know darling, and hardly a quince or persimmon to be had anywhere.

Our aldi def has this.... My teen is home for long weekend so always have to stock up on it.... And super noodles.

Surtsey · 15/09/2022 23:38

There's loads of things I can no longer find in my local supermarket. And judging by the local FB pages I'm not the only one complaining. They've had a refit in the shop and rearranged everything on the most unlikely shelves. Cat food next to the washing powder down where they used to keep the jam? Of course it is. Doh.

Mitchum solid deodorant here too. So annoying ad it’s the only one I like.

It’s because one of the plastic things turning it around or something is made in Russia, people emptied the shops months ago when this was found out.

Cannelloni..,

had to order from Amazon in the end!

Try Morrisons for cannelloni tubes

Longdistance · 15/09/2022 23:40

@keeprunning55 yes, pain au chocolat also the same in Aldi. Fuck knows where it’s gone?

thunderhoney · 15/09/2022 23:42

Not in the UK but McCoy’s salt&vinegar has been impossible to order for the last 6 months.

Joystir59 · 15/09/2022 23:42

Tinned sardines, goats cheese,

spiderlight · 15/09/2022 23:44

Jam sugar. Found some eventually but not until we'd tried four different supermarkets.

MinglingFlamingo · 15/09/2022 23:45

My local large Tesco didn't have cling film today. I'm not sure if it's been out of stock for ages or just recently. It's not something we buy that frequently

GreenClock · 15/09/2022 23:57

Red Bounty missing from my local Sainsbury’s, and has been for a month or so.

Found it in a pound shop near my workplace though.

realsavagelike · 16/09/2022 00:06

Cocktail sticks. For MONTHS.

kateandme · 16/09/2022 00:08

Freezer bags
sqaush
eggs
sugar
yoghurts
and when they do have products it’s at the start of the day and if you go late the empty shelves are staggering,so they seem to always have a lot less of products.
you used to be able to go to the shops anytime.if you wait til anytime after late afternoon now the shelves are getting bare.fresh products non existent at that time.

I read about this.
people searched all products made in Russia to stock up.
but what they forgot was what machinery.ingredients or gadgets that go into everyday products are also made in Russia.so those companies still can’t make products originally produced in Russia or not.

All types of cherries - fresh, maraschino, frozen, canned, even frozen.

I second that!
