What's suddenly not in shops near you?

I've been trying to buy cream of tartar for all of September. None in Coop or Tesco in three towns. A friend bought the only tub on the shelves of an upmarket foodie shop further afield today. She lent me it so I could take what I needed for scones promised for a village event, but she wanted it back. There's bicarb soda and baking powder - why no cream of tartar?

@Talipesmum
@Squ1ggle

Got Watermelon! It was in a local greengrocer.

Previously I'd been looking in all the supermarkets. Thanks for the advice. 👍🏻

Hurrah! Greengrocers must have done a deal…

I've only ever seen it in glass bottles and it's expensive compared to veg oil. The dog gets the posh stuff to help with his skin/coat from allergies. Us minions have to make do.

Its actually one thing I won't budge on with the increasing prices.... Pets, who'd have them!!

That sounds like our house, the dog had the best of everything, whilst his servants picked the scraps 🤣

Tbf we didn't scrimp on the dog's food etc as he had such a sensitive tummy.

Take heart people! Jacob’s Flatbread crackers disappeared with Covid and I haven’t managed to get any in two years - then yesterday I randomly came across some in Iceland!

Although the picture on the box doesn’t look very appetising - I hope they haven’t been tinkering with the ingredients.

Gagagardener · 16/09/2022 20:31

Little tubs of Dr Oetker cream.of tartar, turned up in local Coop today. Just after I'd ordered 750g of it from Amazon!

Mitchum deodorant.

cheers to all the brexit voters for all the shortages as that’s what’s to blame here.

Lovely use of the word 'tinkering' MrsFessiwig

Sunflower101 · 17/09/2022 08:24

Supermarket branded tinned sardines in tomato sauce. Not seen for weeks, every time I go in a supermarket I check the tinned aisle, I can find the expensive tins but they are over a £1 more a tin.

Wincher · 16/09/2022 08:44

All very well saying you can make your own apple sauce, which I usually do, I hate the bought stuff. But I can't seem to find any cooking apples at the mo! My son asked me to make apple crumble but it will have to be plum crumble instead. Surely right now is uk apple season?!

It certainly is apple season! Everyone around here (Lincolnshire) seems to have barrows of apples at their gate for people to take as there's so many!

ScottishLavender · 17/09/2022 09:28

For those looking for tinned mackerel, sardines etc try Lidl. They've got shedloads in both the Lidl stores near us.

JennyWren87 · 17/09/2022 09:29

Bicarb soda and cling film

Firefin · 17/09/2022 09:47

Crispy onions! Totally random and there are only two dishes I use them for, but I haven't been able to buy any in weeks!

Dontsayyouloveme · 17/09/2022 09:51

I've not been able to find fizzy watermelon slices sweets in Tesco, for about three months now!! Random

Zippedydoo123 · 17/09/2022 09:54

Tinned sardines in olive oil. Any supermarket brand.

Pedal bin liners 30l size.

I had to order pedal binliners on Ebay in the end.

You can usually get them in Sainsbury's or Waitrose. I've certainly bought them in those two shops in the past three months, if you have one close by.

Aozora13 · 17/09/2022 10:04

DH came back from Tesco yesterday full of the Great Pitta Bread Shortage chat he’d had with a staff member. Oil and chickpeas hit and miss here too.

Yes, exactly those. Sadly, I am nowhere near Cornwall.

xalo · 17/09/2022 11:48

For those who haven't read the full thread- all the Mitcham's deodorants are at Boots online...

Dontsayyouloveme · 18/09/2022 14:27

Squiff70 · 18/09/2022 18:39

@Squiff70 Sorry to de rail but what do you do with those?

PonyPatter44 · 18/09/2022 18:56

No samphire and no potted shrimp to be had ANYWHERE. Has the sea gone away?

And yes, I think this is the ponciest thing I have ever posted on Mumsnet.
