I was telling my DH that it's considered borderline overweight, but that I think at that weight most people my weight would be between a size 10-12 (of today's vanity sizing).

i'm 5'3 before my DD had an hourglass shape and was size 14 at about 11st10 though often 16-18 because of bust size for shirts
weight range for normal BMI at 5'3 is about 7st10 - 10st2
so 10st 5 is just overweight by 3lbs
I think different shapes size differently because of narrow waist skirts that were A line could be a smaller size than a pencil skirt which was tighter on hips,
so you could easily have 3 women all 5'3 and all 10 stone in different sizes because of how weight is distributed

shedwithivy · 15/09/2022 13:11

I'm that weight but slightly taller. 10-12 top 12-14 bottom depending on the shop - all my weight is on my thighs which spindle away to pathetic skinny calves, I have bony hands, small ring size and tiny wrists. Weird how people carry weight differently. I am very top end of normal bmi.

Youcunnyfunt · 15/09/2022 14:22

I'm around 65Kg but a little shorter and I'm size 8-10, XS or S

At 58kg or less I'm size 6-8

All my weight is in my boobs, bum and thighs, hourglass shape, which is probably why I can fit 8-10. I exercise a lot.

I think it depends on how squidgy you are as well, as to what sizes you can fit in. My body / fat is quite firm - I do have some love handles at the moment but really, I can't squeeze into clothes. Clothes squeeze over me, if you see what I mean. Whereas my mum had very little muscle mass and her skin / fatty areas were very soft at my age, so she could sort of rearrange her body into clothes. Quite handy haha.

Namechangefail123 · 15/09/2022 14:22

Thank you @Whererhewestwind I think for the most part I've reached a happy medium in terms of diet/exercise/size. I'm still heavy for my size, but I think I just need to learn to live with it :) (as nobody will ever be able to give me an answer as to why).

Are you really muscular? I'm 159cm and currently weigh 8st 8 and I think i look about the same as you in clothes. I wear an 8 or a 10!

sevenbyseven · 15/09/2022 15:19

I think either your height or your weight are wrong - it would be unusual to have an overweight BMI but look slim and non-muscular.

I'm 5'3 and 9st, which for me is size 10-12.

Namechangefail123 · 15/09/2022 15:21

No, not really! I would consider myself toned rather than muscular.

I am 5,3", 10 stone 5 and a size 10/12 bottoms and 12/14 top. It really depends on the retailer. I can get away with an 8 in Gap, for example but in H&M I can be a 16! It makes buying online a bugger.

AntlerRose · 15/09/2022 15:32

It amazes me how different heights and builds carry weight so differently.

Namechangefail123 · 15/09/2022 15:46

@sevenbyseven both are correct (believe me it's a bit demoralising to be this heavy, but it is what it is).

hellosunshineagainxxx · 15/09/2022 15:58

I was a 10 at that weight

I can't understand how people are questioning the OPs stats when enough other people have commented (including me) to back up that we can in fact look slim and be a size 10 with the same stats. We are all different!

Namechangefail123 · 15/09/2022 17:31

I know I'm smaller than average, but in no way a freak of nature. I'm sure there are other women my height + weight that oscillate between a size 6 and 8. Sure we're the minority, but I know my stats are correct

incognitodorrito · 15/09/2022 17:41

I was and was a tight 12.

Cleopatra67 · 15/09/2022 17:42

When I was that weight - I’m same height and currently 11stone 7 - I was a smallish 12. At 10 stone I’m a 10 in bottoms and 12 ish in tops as have 34H norks. I think it depends on shape as well as weight.

ThickCutSteakChips · 15/09/2022 17:43

Size 14, maybe fitting into 12s in some places.

Size 10, no way. I was at least a stone lighter when I was Size 10 <cries>

shedwithivy · 15/09/2022 18:01

You have a great figure by the way... so I would be tempted to forget the scales (measure in inches if you really feel the need to)

Namechangefail123 · 15/09/2022 20:12

I don't weight myself in sense of "success" I just use it as a guideline of being more or less on track (or to look at trends, rather than to see if I'm overweight or not).

You have a great figure!

Cuck00soup · 16/09/2022 20:31

I am pear-shaped with a BMI of 25.5 and fit best in an 8-10 for tops and a 12 - 14 for trousers. Smedium, my daughter calls it.

What was interesting was when I stood on a body analysis scanner. Some gyms & health clinics have them. I have a lot of fat around my core and very little muscle strength in my upper body. I'd encourage anyone who is struggling to lose weight to consider it, it may help to target your exercise.

Morg1111 · 30/01/2024 18:54

You’re actually very wrong about that I’m 67kg 5’4 height and I wear a size 4-6 in jeans and a small in tops wearing a 34 B bra size or small in sports bra’ s I don’t exercise or have that much muscle mass besides my calf’s because I walk a lot at work, some people are just built different or have dense bones , that doesn’t make someone obese not even borderline obese

InAMess2023 · 30/01/2024 18:57

I'm 5'2" and 10.5 stone was the heaviest I've ever been (uni binge eating and drinking!) I was a large 12 and sometimes a 14.

Now weigh 8st 10 and a 6/8 but I do go to the gym 4/5 times a week and am fairly careful with what I eat (everything in moderation though)

For further comparison I was 7st 4 at my lightest ever and was a painful size 4

InAMess2023 · 30/01/2024 19:01

@Namechangefail123 sorry to add just seen your pic, you absolutely don't look overweight at all! This is me at 8st 10 and 6/8 (dress is Zara XS) and you look slimmer than me!

If you weight 66/67kg (10.5st) and are 5ft2/3 (1.59m) what's your size?

I'm similar height and to be a 6/8 I had to be 8 stone/50.5kg. It's interesting how differently bodies weigh. I was 10lb lighter than you when I was your size.

DrCoconut · 30/01/2024 19:37

Build matters. I know they say big bones don't exist etc but some people have a bigger frame than others. I was a size 12 at 5'5 and 7.5st (I was really ill with stress at the time). It was a few years ago so size changes may make that more a size 10 now.
