So the question is, would you join it? I’m just not very patient and don’t think I could do it!

Is there a winning lottery ticket taped to the coffin? If so, absolutely. If not. No. I can't think why I would.

Oblomov22 · 14/09/2022 10:11

Love it. Grin

DrDetriment · 14/09/2022 10:12

No. I couldn't cope physically with that sort of a queue.

RoseAndRose · 14/09/2022 10:13

I want to go, but don't think I can face it.

I wonder how long it will take to move from 5 miles out to Westminster Hall?

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2022 10:14

No. I am struggling to think of anythingI would stand in a 5 mile long queue for. 🤔
I assume people are requesting annual leave to do it, I’m not sure my employers would be keen!

blameitonthecaffeine · 14/09/2022 10:14

I really wanted to start a thread asking if anyone is in the queue because I'm so intruigued by it so I'm glad to see this. 5 miles!!! Wow. BBC has got stories of people in their 80s who have already queue overnight and will be there till at least 5pm this evening. I really hope nobody gets seriously ill or dies queuing!

No, I absolutely wouldn't. I feel mild sadness, mainly for the Queen's family and friends, and it's historially interesting but I can't see it as either a personal loss or a tragedy. This is a woman of 96 who lived a fabulous life but has already lost her husband and was probably ready to go. I'd celebrate her life. I won't mourn her death.

Me neither, I wouldn’t consider going.

I was thinking about this in the shower this morning. Just who on earth has time to stand around outside for 30 hours or whatever it is to look at a coffin?

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2022 10:17

Over the last few weeks people have often said ‘it’s what the Queen would have wanted’ about things. Would the Queen have wanted people queuing for days in miles of queues to see her coffin? She seemed a no nonsense type after all. 🤔

Spectre8 · 14/09/2022 10:18

Imagine that was the last thing on earth you did... erm no thanks. Id rather mourn for the people who can't get an ambulance to hospital in time

There was an interview with a headteacher from the Midlands posted on the BBC site this morning. Said she was queuing on behalf of her school. So I guess people have taken time off - maybe 1 per place of work for those employers who want it to happen.

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2022 10:21

I would phone my boss right now and tell her I’m not coming in later as I’m off to London to queue on behalf of the company. 😂She’d love that.
But I’d rather be at work , frankly.

What a ridiculous question. Honestly can you not imagine how loads of people could manage to take 2 days out of their lives to do this? You can't think that maybe people are retired, work part time, took annual leave etc. It's hardly rocket science, you just want to have a good sneer don't you..

i Think what people mean is that she would have been touched/moved by this - not that she would have actually wanted people to queue in the rain. For some people this is an important thing do, for others it won’t be. Each to their own, and it’s good that for those that do want to queue there will be facilities arranged.

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2022 10:25

They’re handing wristbands out now with your number in the queue. 😬

In all honesty I wouldn’t be able to book annual leave at such short notice. For anything. And I work part time.

Does that mean you can walk off? I’m guessing not

Op no I wouldn’t queue this long, no chance, but if people can I’m kind of impressed with the stamina. Overnight included

I wondered if that meant you can wander off for a wee etc because you have your number? Not sure.

Does that mean you can get your wristband then head off to work/home/a cafe etc for the rest of the day and come back to your place? That seems more sensible.

It means you can enter the portaloo enclosures and return to the queue

If you leave the queue beyond that, you aren't re-admitted.

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2022 10:29

They’re up to 2500 so far.

DutchessOfMuck · 14/09/2022 10:29

I wouldn't what about food, drinks, toilet? Not to mention how uncomfortable you would get from standing all the time for hours. I think the waiting around would be so boring. Imagine standing for hours and you popped to the loo and someone had stolen your place 🤬

There must be secret tactics to it though as whenever you see people in the lines they are always happy and loving life.

Eggza · 14/09/2022 10:29

I'd only stand in line that long for money. I can see pictures of the coffin all over the news.

FruitPastilleNut · 14/09/2022 10:30

People are bonkers.

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2022 10:30

Alice Beer has been chatting to the queue for This Morning. They seem reasonably jovial at the moment but there’s a way to go.
