So the question is, would you join it? I’m just not very patient and don’t think I could do it!

Sophie looked very emotional, must be difficult watching her children especially as they aren't in the public eye as much as the others and so young.

Zara looks incredibly gaunt too. It's a very difficult, sad time for them all.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 17/09/2022 18:34

I think that that the queue should never be closed! I reckon if it's kept open then people would continue to join the queue and pay respects to the place where the Queen's coffin laid in state. It could become a permanent tourist attraction.

I think you'll find that Westminster Hall is a major tourist attraction in its own right and visited often by tourists.

Hels20 · 17/09/2022 18:44

Westminster Hall is beautiful. There were a lot of ex military men who just wanted to pay respects to “their boss” as several referred
To her as. An interesting take…

God Save the Queue!

The Queue now has a Psalm. A truly beautiful arrangement. It's brilliant.

It's definitely changed since the first day of the queue, when people were going in steady single file and had time to curtsy, now etc, all seems v v rushed now with 3 lines of people either side.

I would guess they're focussed on the toilet by the exit.😩

EmmaH2022 · 17/09/2022 20:18

Love the psalm and yes, god save the queue.

FourChimneys · 17/09/2022 21:23

ShamedBySiri that psalm is fabulous, thank you for the link.

Thought I'd have a wander round Westminster and The Mall today (not to join the actual queue). Have to say that some of the one way pedestrian systems seemed a little odd.

Particularly in St James Park where they sent us up towards BP, blocked the little bridge over the lake, sent us all the way back to Horseguards and up the other side. Ended up funnelling people on really long detours. Same for Horse Guards Road.

I know the police are doing their best but it seemed a bit illogical at times given the numbers involved.

EmmaH2022 · 17/09/2022 21:47

red "I know the police are doing their best but it seemed a bit illogical at times given the numbers involved."

isn't that what they are trying to do though? Spread out the crowds? Like with Tube stations, sometimes it's a longer interchange path to spread the numbers.

also they need to see the crowds for security so keeping them long and narrow probably works better. Just a thought, I might be way off.

MrsFezziwig · 17/09/2022 21:47

Kudos to Zara for doing the vigil in those heels!

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 17/09/2022 22:06

There’s an article in the news about a 7 year old girl that was pushed aside by the man running up to the coffin. The aunt is interviewed talking about how her niece has been up since 2am and queuing for 15 hours, and how it was so awful of the man to do that. And it is, of course it is.

All I can think though, is that a 7 year old has been up since 2am and queuing on her feet for 15 hours. She looked utterly exhausted.

PugInTheHouse · 17/09/2022 23:16

@stillherenow yes I think she would be so proud of them also. Tough time all round, they all look extremely emotional and drained. I do hope they get some time after the funeral to have some quiet reflection time, I doubt that will be the case for King Charles unfortunately.

red4321 · 18/09/2022 07:18

I did think about that, but the system around Parliament Square (the main queue wasn't running through here) just ended up funnelling everyone in a non-moving mass because it was a long detour to get back up to Trafalgar Square.

It felt like they were creating a queue when there wouldn't have been one had people been able to disperse through the roads.

We gave up on Buckingham Palace after an hour of queuing in St James Park as the security guard said it was a 3 hour queue from where we were. There was also some efforts to queue jump over the small fence which they were doing a great job of stopping.

Does anyone know what time they'll close the queue today? Debating going but wouldn't be able to join it till 2pm...

TeenDivided · 18/09/2022 09:29

I think 2pm might be tight, that is 'only' 16.5 hours before the close...

Totally depends on how many people join this morning. The last viewing is at 6.30am tomorrow. Current waiting is 'at least 13.5hrs'.

Keep your eyes on the official tracker for updates.

😂

how did you feel after? Legs must be like lead.

I felt like I ached from head toe. A good sleep and lie in sorted me out though!!

I still think you'd make it if you joined at 2pm. I think people arriving will slow as the day goes on. Really it does only take 12-13hrs max from Southwark Park

Whatthetrolley · 18/09/2022 10:44

My friends joined at 3pm yesterday and got through at 1.45 this morning, under the 12 hour mark!!!!

TeenDivided · 18/09/2022 11:14

They are saying now 'to avoid disappointment please do not set off to join the queue'.

Beatrice and Eugenie were in heels too. Louise wore shoes of a sensible height!
