What could Center Parcs actually do if people refuse to leave?

I've seen on the news that Center Parcs has announced that it will be closing on Monday for the funeral and anyone on a break will need to leave for that evening and find alternative accommodation for the night, affecting people who have got Friday to Friday breaks.

It doesn't affect me personally but I'm curious. What could Center Parcs actually do if people simply refuse to leave? I'm not sure the police would get involved as it could be considered a civil trespass matter potentially?

Seems ridiculous

Spudlet · 13/09/2022 17:13

It’s ridiculous. I assume this is because they don’t want to pay their staff bank holiday rates…

(Not affected as we could never afford CP! But I just think it’s crazy.)

PalePurplePumpkin · 13/09/2022 17:14

Totally ridiculous. What on earth are people supposed to do?

That's beyond ridiculous, I'd be asking for a full refund.

FarmerRefuted · 13/09/2022 17:16

Reason 765 why Centre Parcs is shite.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/09/2022 17:16

Good God, how ridiculous can you get?

tenbob · 13/09/2022 17:16

They can’t do anything, surely?

They won’t be able to find loads of extra security staff to spend the whole day arguing the toss with guests

At best, they can ban non-compliant guests from coming again

I've never been but I've never seen or read anything that would tempt me!

WickedPanda · 13/09/2022 17:18

I like centre parcs but this is awful. What do they expect people to do, I hope they are refunding!

j712adrian · 13/09/2022 17:18

It's a bit bloody expensive to be messing around like that.

I've never been tempted either.

Even less so now. What an awful way to treat paying guests looking forward to a long awaited holiday.

I doubt they’ll need to worry about many people who are kicked out of their holiday accommodation ever wanting to go again, tbh. It shows such a total disregard for their guests.

When I was training (I’m a massage therapist) our tutor said that Center Parcs were awful for basically working their therapists until they break. No time to rest between appointments or to warm up and cool down. She hadn’t a good word to say about them.

fairgame84 · 13/09/2022 17:20

I don't understand why they aren't happy to shut down the facilities and allow guests to stay in their lodges.
Asking them to leave for one night and then come back is unreasonable.

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 13/09/2022 17:20

I’ve read they have to be offsite until 4pm not all night but that’s still ridiculous.

RagingWoke · 13/09/2022 17:21

This is ridiculous. Are they refunding the missed time or reimbursing costs... there has be something in the t&cs or law to protect consumers from this kind of thing.
Suspect there's not much to do if guests just don't leave and I look forward to the headlines!

Ewewanka · 13/09/2022 17:21

Grabbing my popcorn now.

Center Parcs said: "We have made the decision to close all our UK villages on Monday 19 September as a mark of respect and to allow as many of our colleagues as possible to be part of this historic moment.

"Guests who were due to arrive on Monday 19 September should not travel on this day, though we will reopen on Tuesday 20 September and be ready to welcome our guests then.

Monday arrivals aren't allowed to check in in until 4pm Tuesday.
Friday-Friday guests have to leave at 10am Monday and can return at 10am Tuesday. They are allowed to leave belongings in their lodge.
Monday departures have to leave site by 10am. Normally you check out by 10am but can use the facilities fir the rest of the day.

cherrysthename · 13/09/2022 17:25

That's a piss take

Daisy95 · 13/09/2022 17:26

It's ridiculous, we're booked to go Monday! We now can't check in until Tuesday 4pm and out by Friday 10am so effectively only have two day holiday 😂😂 I don't understand why they haven't let people in on Monday as normal but shut the restaurants and activities if they really felt necessary

JoeyThePrawn · 13/09/2022 17:26

I think they are going to have a massive backlash if they don't reverse their decision
Who is going to make any future bookings with them and risk this again ?

Dartmoorcheffy · 13/09/2022 17:28

Absolutely crazy. I would be demanding a full refund . Fair enough to close the on site facilities during the funeral but to actually kick guests out. Ridiculous.

bellamountain · 13/09/2022 17:30

Probably better off not going going anyway and avoid a horrendous ear infection from the pool!

TattiePants · 13/09/2022 17:37

I think they are going to have to backtrack as they are getting so much negative press now. Entry to the lodges is via a key card that stops working after you've left the accommodation so I guess they could disable the key cards at 10am on Monday which would mean if you leave your lodge, you can't get back in.

This. Surely they mean that the accommodation is open but the facilities will be shut?
