Lady di would have been queen...

Just the thought of it creates butterflies in my stomach as when she died I was really young and it hurt a lot...even though I didn't understand what really happened. I'm sad the queen has died but just the thought of princess diana becoming queen...it would have been amazing.

Will this madness never end?

Nope. Although I must say I'm quite heartened about the support I've seen for Camilla. HM knew what she was doing when she said she wanted Cam to be Queen Consort - she clearly had had chance to appreciate Camilla's worth and support for Charles.

PurpleWisteria · 10/09/2022 08:53

She'd have been a disaster. Not her fault - she wasn't well. Messed up childhood and adolescence.

Diana would have been a terrible queen. I view her and Meghan as almost the same type of person. Harry has basically married his mother...

I think both appear very damaged women and share a lot of similarities. Despite this, Diana did a lot of good. H&M are on the wrong path Imo. I hope at some stage there will be reflection and that Meghan may yet do the same.

She wouldn’t have been, as she would be divorced.
if I had wings and a horn and was a horse I’d be a unicorn and could fly about sprinkling stardust on everyone.
But as it happens I’m a 40 year old woman drinking tea in bed when I should be asleep! So……….

@Imsupertangirl 😂😂😂 this was excellent

Won’t someone think of the butterflies? 🦋🦋🦋

Quartz2208 · 10/09/2022 09:00

Being the Consort of a Monarch is tough - Prince Philip I think showed that. It isn't an easy role at all and certainly not the fairytale that people think. It is a supporting role and putting yourself second to the other person.

The number one thing it needs to make it work is love. In order to support I think the other person and in a way put your needs secondary to theirs you need to love them. Prince Philip loved the Queen (may not have always been faithful but loved her), Kate loves William and Camilla loves Charles.

Diana no more loved Charles than he did her - it just simply would not have worked

VenusClapTrap · 10/09/2022 09:00

Oh dear the Lady Di is a goddess brigade are out

That’s not really the vibe I’m getting from this thread.

5zeds · 10/09/2022 09:00

Lady Di, married a prince became Princess Di, was miserable, they divorced, she dated other men and then died in a car crash. At what stage would she have made a fabulous queen? Her ex husband remarried and HE is the King and his present wife is the Queen Consort.

vera99 · 10/09/2022 09:02

You can buy "Saint" Diana prayer candles. In another era, Prince Harry would have sought the support of nobles in the outer regions and massed an army to take on that of the King in a battle for succession and avenge the mistreatment of his mother.

Namedifferentorquestion · 10/09/2022 09:03

@5zeds

I meant the original OP and some of the dramatics that still go on and on and on about the woman. Fortunately MN has adult women who can see she wasn't perfect and unsuitable. The one with butterflies about Di seems a bit misplaced here - she should go off to the trashy newspapers instead.

When in 2035 President Meghan comes on a State Visit to the Uk with her First Man, Harry King Willam and Queen Katherine will have to bury the hatchet! I suspect the 2 brothers will be having a meeting without wives at the sides somewhere to see if peace can be brokered.

Because it's you posting this and you're scaring accurate with royals stuff I can totally see this happening Grin

MenopauseSucks · 10/09/2022 09:06

Lady Diana Spencer was an aristocrat from a family dating back to the 15th century.
Anyone seen the Althorp Estate??? Not insignificant is it?
Aristocratic marriages usually were a way of providing heirs & a business transaction between two families. Her own father had divorced.
These were the circles she grew up in. Yes she was only 19 but her background would've made her aware of arranged marriages, etc. She didn't go into her marriage an innocent.
If she were still alive, I would hope that she had found someone special & was happy.
If she was still married to Charles & therefore Queen, it would be a reign of toxicity between two unhappy people.

Spudlet · 10/09/2022 09:07

@vera99 wtf?! 🙃

In another era though, Diana would have put up and shut up because there would have been no other option available to her. She probably wouldn’t have been shunted off to a Covent because she’d produced a male heir and a spare, but she could easily have been sidelined. And her sons would have been whisked away pretty much at birth to be raised by wet nurses, so may well not have given a shit about it. Eleanor of Aquitaine was locked away by Henry II for 16 years and none of her sons did much about it.

That's the most bizarre thing I've seen for a long time. It's nuts. Williams probably thinks the same.

I agree with this. It’s terrible Diana died as she did but the love wasn’t there. Obviously divorce altered her path even if it hadn’t happened.

Spudlet · 10/09/2022 09:08

Convent, not Covent (Garden?) 😂

’Hie thee to a shop selling overpriced tourist tat!’

JaneBrownings · 10/09/2022 09:09

Oh FGS

Give it a rest @heartbroken22

Why? Because she was prettier? Looked nicer in the posh frocks?

You have no idea what kind of Queen she'd be as she didn't mature beyond the age of her mid-30s.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/09/2022 09:10

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 08:45

One can hardly blame her, she's certainly not so well endowed in the looks department as was Diana and so her window of maximum opportunity in the marriage market was likely smaller than most

And good for Charles for recognising that character is way better than looks for a long lasting and very happy marriage. Queen Camilla all the way, I say.

Quite. I don’t think Diana was as beautiful as she was made out to be. I think she seemed more beautiful than her actual looks because she was loved so much. I also think Camilla has become more attractive with age because she has also won so many hearts with her down to earth wit, love and serenity. People seem more beautiful when they are likeable. A lot like in the book The Twits.

Charming. Or her and Charles were actually in love and better suited. Diana was pretty but Camilla was as well. Not sure if you realise but it takes more than looks to make a good marriage or a good Queen Consort.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2022 01:21

If things had been different, Edward would have been allowed to marry Wallis Simpson without having to abdicate, so Elizabeth wouldn't have been queen anyway and the whole Diana question a moot point.

Yep!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2022 09:16

I don’t think Diana was as beautiful as she was made out to be.

I know someone who met Diana who has always said his breath was taken away by how beautiful she was, way more so In real life than on TV/in pictures.

Of course looks aren't the most important thing in a marriage or in life, but thought my friend's comment was interesting, if only his personal opinion.

Aquamarine1029 · 10/09/2022 00:54

FGS, Charles and Diana were divorced before she died. She never would have been Queen, even if she were still alive.

Ah, but she would have been the Queen of People's Hearts, and that's all that matters 🤨

JaneBrownings · 10/09/2022 09:17

The fact you said you were very young when she died @heartbroken22 says it all. You are creating a kind of fantasy or fairytale in your own head.

She wasn't Lady Di after she married anyway, she was the Princess of Wales.

I was very much an adult when she died (in my 40s.)

I knew the history of the marriage, her infidelity, her mental instability.

I can't agree she would have been a good queen based on that.

I also think ,if you are being honest in your thread, that it's rather unsavoury to start a thread about this now, the day after Charles became King.

To be blunt, you are shit-stirring.

pompomdaisy · 10/09/2022 09:18

Er no!
