When the Queen died?

I was stirring dinner and dd was laying the table. I suspect a lot of us were cooking dinner. A moment we'll always remember.

RIP Your majesty.

I was at the church doing my wedding rehearsal for Saturday, so didn’t find out until about 45 minutes later

Miriam101 · 08/09/2022 20:55

Bathing the kids. Our 5yo was quite shocked and then tried to explain to her brother: "It's ok though DB because she's in the clouds now." Then: "Who's Queen now?"

coldcaff · 08/09/2022 20:55

Washing the dishes when it was announced, at work when she actually passed away.

TeddyTed · 08/09/2022 20:57

I was in the beers aisle in Tesco with DH. Had been following the news all day but popped out for some bits. Got a WhatsApp from my DMIL confirming it.

At Home on the Sofa watching the News

OrangeBananaFish · 08/09/2022 20:59

Sat on the sofa in the living room with all the family. I was debating if I should go for a run. Could tell it was coming for most of the afternoon so stayed put as I didn't want to miss it. I'm not a royalist nor do I mourn over those I've never met of course I feel empathy for the family and know that death is sad for those left behind), however, I really wanted to sit through this and watch the announcement.

Then got annoyed with 2 teenagers and a 10 year old talking too much so I couldn't hear the TV.

LosttheremoteAGAIN · 08/09/2022 21:02

Id been following a thread on here about her, when my partner walked in and I told him ‘it’s time, the queen will die today’
we watched birds of a feather while I popped onto fb-all my friends had put something about it,so I came onto here and it was true
i can’t say I’m in tears but I do feel sad-it’s end of an era and she was still a mum, granny and great granny to her family
rip ma’am

Repotting a houseplant in the kitchen and I got a text from DD. She was on an RAF base so probably found out before the BBC did.

DeclansAFeckingDream · 08/09/2022 21:03

Sitting with DD eating lasagne, watching the news. We never eat dinner on our laps but we did tonight.

In a bar in Budapest

Blanketpolicy · 08/09/2022 21:04

I was on a zoom call with project team colleagues from different countries having a heated discussion with American users when BBC breaking news pinged up on my phone. Mid rant I pinged boss "oh no, the queen has died ☹️" and it popped up on the shared screen for everyone to see.

Very awkward moment as one colleague tried to give us their condolences 😳 and talk about her, the others then followed them, we awkwardly steered the conversation back to work and finished our call a bit less heated (but still with no resolution).

TheClitterati · 08/09/2022 21:05

She died this afternoon. I was watching the gates at balmoral on bbc news.

In the Mad Bishop and Bear at Paddington Station (waiting for my train back to the Welsh valleys).

The pub was loud and normal, news on the TV in the background but with subtitles and loud music playing.....Huw appeared on the big screen in black....pub cut the music and turned on the TV sound.....bell rung by the barman behind the bar......pub fell silent....Huw made the announcement.....town crier entered the pub and shouted three times: -

THE QUEEN IS DEAD, LONG LIVE THE KING.

Goosebumps moment for this little Welsh valleys girl!

I'm not surprised. That gave me goosebumps too, just reading it!

I had the news on and off during the afternoon, but whilst making a cooked breakfast for dinner. I just put the eggs in to poach walked through the dining room where dd said I think the Queen has died, so I went into the living room and it was still the news and then the screen went black and a photo came up with the announcement and then the national anthem. I did shed a tear at that as it is sad, but happy she had a good long life and hopefully a peaceful death.

Cheguevarahamster · 08/09/2022 21:08

Waiting to see a recording of "Have I got news for you". It was cancelled.

That's so sweet.

At a scentsy party

Titsflyingsouth · 08/09/2022 21:32

Walking the dog - my BBC app did it's trademark little beep.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 08/09/2022 21:40

Sitting on my bed, listening to a book and doing jigsaw puzzles on my tablet.
I wouldn't have known anything about it until I read the news tomorrow if I hadn't come on mumsnet earlier and read the thread about drs being worried about her

Onthegrid · 08/09/2022 21:49

I’m on vacation overseas, and I was on the sun deck having coffee with the BBC playing when the news came through.

CiderGlider · 08/09/2022 22:02

Got a message on WhatsApp from friends while out walking the dog in the rain. I thought before I left for the walk it was going to happen while I was out.

mondaytosunday · 08/09/2022 22:06

I remember where I was and what I was doing when John Lennon and Princess Diana died and the Twin Towers because it was unexpected and a shock. This isn't a shock and everyone was just waiting for it to be announced so I imagine a fair amount of people were sitting watching the news at home.

tiger2691 · 08/09/2022 22:15

Sitting in my plastic greenhouse, vaping and having a beer, whilst listening to LBC.
