Will it be Continuity Truss or "Socialist" Sunak in charge?

How can you find a better job
paid that easily ?
Many have to compromise around childcare / elderly parent care , all manner of reasons they are in a position not to take on extra hours or whatever. Wraparound care isn't available at schools in the holidays and children have a lot of time off.
I heard that that M and S are paying 20p a more per hour , that'll do it eh? I think not!
Make the big companies pay their workers more ! What's wrong with this ? Will she tell them ? I think not.
Plus many public sector workers claim benefits too , what's her answer to this one?

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2022 08:24

The person who cleans the hospitals becomes the supervisor. Earns more but suddenly has staff to rota and maybe extra hours to work as well
That former position has to be done by someone! That person may like not having the extra responsibility and it fits in around their home life more than than a supervisor role might do. According to Ms Truss , you should aspire to be running it all rather than actually doing the work that is vital to keep the place clean and lead against infection control. Where do you draw the lines? Or find the staff ?

Women's problems. (Yes I know that's a sweeping generalisation.)

And ofcourse there is more

Another Tory benefit crackdown. Part-time workers currently switch to a ‘light touch’ job search regime if they’re working at least 9 hours a week. On Monday that changes to 12 hours. Now, from January, 15 hours. If you don’t fulfil the Jobcentre requirements you’ll be sanctioned

Guess with Rwanda backfiring, it's easier to go after benefit claimants. Brittannia Unchained gang in full swing.

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2022 09:02

Yes, it can be women's problems ! Especially with any children involved.
The higher earners can have nannies or pay for the school wraparound care or even have their own parents on board to help out etc. there are clubs available here in the holidays , but they tend to be further away in different schools ( mostly secondary schools) and not cheap either.
Companies rarely have nurseries, even if they do it's still a problem once they go to up to school
When will any government start dealing with any of these problems? Of course not.

DuncinToffee · 22/09/2022 09:07

And remember that Coffey refused to publish reports that showed the DWP mistreatment of claimants, that led to deaths

L1ttledrummergirl · 22/09/2022 10:19

I would like to know why our press aren't doing more things to get the facts out there?
This piss poor excuse for a government has gone from bad to worse and no-one is holding them to account.

How the fuck can they change the rules so blatantly with no oversight? The opposition parties need to get on this, if not in Parliament which seems permanently closed right now then through the press.

Notonthestairs · 22/09/2022 10:21

Interesting article from Sam Coates about tomorrow's budget.

"I would like to know why our press aren't doing more things to get the facts out there?"

Who owns & runs much of the media? I regularly read The Times - it's certainly not challenging much of the Government's agenda, a bit of tentative questioning but not much else. That might change as issues become more evident but by then it will be too late.

Besides which they are gearing up for fresh culture wars under Michelle Donelan. The BBC's licence is up for review again and I doubt those at Ch 4 feel very safe.

The BBC’s obsession with impartiality seems to preclude it reporting facts if inconvenient for the government.

According to the political correspondent on lbc with James O Brian just now , a few MPs are unhappy about the fracking proposals that Jacob Rees Mogg thinks are a good idea. Breaking their own manifesto pledge of 2019.
What with him and Theresa Coffey this morning too, it's not a wonderful start to a new government.

DuncinToffee · 22/09/2022 12:08

Yes, quite few Tory backbenchers are very unhappy with fracking

Here is one of them

“Some of the opposition to fracking has been funded by Mr Putin's regime…..”

They’re not doing too badly given that we all know about it! Added to which the media’s been a bit busy with something else for the last couple of weeks. We did speculate here about what might be going on in No 10 while we were all diverted.

My only consolation in this absolute shit show is that never again will they be able to accuse Labour of bankrupting the country and hopefully they’ll never get into power again. I think this might well split the Tory party in halves.

Notonthestairs · 22/09/2022 12:34

What a cheap unsubstantiated claim from JRM. It won't go down well with his own MPs, let alone the actual opposition.

(We can skip over the Russian money swilling through the Tory party over the last few years, their internal struggles with the Russia report etc 🙄).

Oh goody, JRM is open to saying who has been funded by Putin/Russia. Hang on and I’ll grab a pen to list who else he reels off…

Bank of England raises interest rates by 0.5% to 2.25%- highest since 2008.

It seems to me that fracking is a perfect local issue in some constituencies that an anyone but Tory candidate will make very, very clear they are against next time an election comes round and some Tory MPs have enough wit to realise what that means for their chances of remaining an MP.

Any chance that saving rates will follow?

No didn't think so.

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2022 12:47

I feel sorry for those with mortgages etc , but we also know that the banks won't put up interest rates on any savings I bet.
I don't think they did before?
It is a blow on top of the energy rises as well

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2022 12:49

Liz truss said at the summer hustings that fracking will go ahead in communities that are not opposed to it. I think that finding one of these communities will be hard.

Blossomtoes · 22/09/2022 12:53

So hard as to be impossible I suspect.

There isn't an acknowledged mechanism for calculating public support though - so they'll fudge it.

Ah now JRM's comments make more sense.

Anyone who challenges fracking licenses must be in hoc to Putin. So when public groups do band together to complain in their local areas they'll be dismissed as Russian supporters.
Nonsense but maybe worth a DM headline or two.

The BBC’s obsession with impartiality seems to preclude it reporting facts if inconvenient for the government.

The BBC are being put in an impossible situation by being constantly threatened by the Tory governments of the last 12 years.

This is why good journalists like Emily Mathis have left. She said in a recent interview that because of the BBC having to be impartial she had to find economists on both sides of the argument on Brexit. But wasn't able to show her workings; that she found 5 to say it was a terrible idea in 10 minutes. But took 5 hours to find one who thought it was a good idea.
