Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

1000 replies

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

I also heard Geri H do the ‘don’t you know who I am’ spiel at a blinking church hall performance that her daughter was involved in. Yuck.

On a happier note I want to say that we met David Essex once and he was absolutely lovely. Very happy to chat.

And at the height of his 'Apprentice' gig fame, Alan Sugar was really kind to my son when he went over to say hello in a restaurant. (We made sure the table had finished eating first.)

Badbadbunny · 30/08/2022 13:10

Worst - Jane McDonald - very self entitled when I found myself in the same shop as her - pretty awful to a shop assistant trying to help her.

Best - By a mile, Olivia Newton John, who I met in a shopping centre toilet back in the 80's. I looked at her by the sinks and wasn't really sure, but she just smiled and then I knew. We talked for what seemed like ages, but probably just a few minutes. She was such a friendly, gracious and humble person. It's a memory I've treasured ever since. I've followed her career and no one has ever had a bad word for her. Quite remarkable for a celebrity.

Bryan Ferry. I used to waitress at verrrry posh events and he was playing a set at one. The way to the stage was through the kitchen and we all had to turn away and were not allowed to look at him as he walked through. God knows what he thought would happen if us peasants got a glimpse!

I had the misfortune of working with David Walliams. Arrogant, creepy, obnoxious, rude and needs to learn how to blend his layers of foundation better.

Was going to say David Walliams. Groped my friend when she had a photo taken with him - he was at least 30, she was 18 and her boyfriend was on the other side of him. Absolutely rank.

Wonnle · 30/08/2022 13:12

Was he still playing for Spurs at the time ?

Lorrymum · 30/08/2022 13:12

Without Joe public these people wouldn't be rich and "famous."
I saw an interview with Martin Clunes were he admitted to being offhand with a fan. He said that the poor guy looked so crestfallen that he swore never to treat someone so badly again. I met him a few years ago when we both pulled into a garage for petrol. He was lovely, took the time to chat about dogs and his farm etc.

brightspice · 30/08/2022 13:13

@Badbadbunny That's a lovely story - I like the idea of not being sure at the sinks!

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 13:13

Who is Christian Bale?

One of those American cheps who perform in moving pictures, m'lud.

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 13:14

Not that I've ever seen any of his movies, mind.

Pikafuckingwho · 30/08/2022 13:14

I don’t know why people like David Walliams
he makes my skin crawl. He is dead behind the eyes and his hamming it up the is he or isn’t he gay schtick that he used to do is pathetic.

I also heard Geri H do the ‘don’t you know who I am’ spiel at a blinking church hall performance that her daughter was involved in. Yuck.

The reply to that would have been
"No but I think i know who you used to be"

CocktailNapkin · 30/08/2022 13:14

I don't think Christian Bale ever moved on completely from the Patrick Bateman role in American Psycho.

Bill Bryson is lovely - was on a flight with him once and he was very kind with the autographs and photos both before and after the flight.

I dont think Ive ever been on the receiving end of celebrity rudeness, although I did dish it out once to Barry Manilow (who really didn't deserve it, he was very kind to the actual superfan who approached him, just underestimated my interest given I was 17 at the time!)

Welsh not american

That was Gareth Eriksen, wasn't it?

CocktailNapkin · 30/08/2022 13:16

sorry, I mean overestimated!

TheClockEnd · 30/08/2022 13:16

@ImSteveMcDonald

Yes, Tom Allen was sooo lovely, he’s quite tiny, too, but smelt amazing and looked immaculate! He was just so much fun, and was nodding and giving little waves to anyone who caught his eye. I do hope he doesn’t change (this was about 4 yrs ago🤷‍♀️) as he went straight to my “No.1 celeb” spot, sharing with Kris Akabussi!!

Pikafuckingwho · 30/08/2022 13:17

My mates kids got friendly with John Terrys children. They were invited over for a children party. There were two separate bits of the party. One for the non-celeb types children and their parents one for the celebrity parents and their children and they were kept apart by a red rope. No one was allowed in the house either.

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 13:18

Sorry. I didn't know that. I tend to assume they're all clones of Johnny Depp.

BabbleBee · 30/08/2022 13:18

Not as famous as some of the people on this thread but…

Chesney Hawkes - absolutely lovely guy. Really warm and friendly.

Same for Mark Read, he was so kind to my DD who has learning difficulties.

Christian Bale insists he isn't Welsh. He says he isn't, I've read online a few times. Says he was just born there

Lady Victoria Hervey. She was being paid by an airline to promote their 1st class service, and I interviewed her for a magazine on that basis. She was rude, bored and disengaged. Met her a month later and she claimed not to remember me at all.

TallulahBetty · 30/08/2022 13:20

Kris Akabusi - lovely
Uri Geller - lovely

Charlie Dimmock - awful, "don't talk to me/don't you know who I am" type. She was opening the garden centre I worked at when I was a teenager. Never forgotten how rude she was
