Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Jess Glynne.

My turn now to say "who?".

Turns to Google to see if I have been missing anything.

Several years ago Nicole Kidman was in London doing a theatre piece. A friend of mine worked very near to the theatre and would see Nicole and her security coming and going, and she would always wave or smile or shout out, 'Hello Nicole'. Never at any time did Nicole show any acknowledgement apart from glaring at her and looking as though she was massively inconvenienced by someone saying hello. Very cold. Didn't even smile back.

Yeah, I have to say I'm on Nicole's side here

MassiveSalad22 · 30/08/2022 12:38

Wow I just googled Christian Bale and he doesn't look how I imagined. I DREAM of someone saying 'Don't you know who I am?' and me going, 'er, no?' 😁

pimlicoanna · 30/08/2022 12:39

I'm surprised to see Louise Redknapp included. I've worked with her on a few occasions and she really was lovely behind the scenes as well as on screen.

Hintofreality · 30/08/2022 12:39

I had the misfortune of working with David Walliams. Arrogant, creepy, obnoxious, rude and needs to learn how to blend his layers of foundation better.

Babyincoming22 · 30/08/2022 12:41

Sid Owen (Ricky Butcher, Eastenders) when I worked at sports direct about 15 years ago. I was 15/16 at the time, and serving him on the till. His card got declined, I politely asked if he'd like to try again or try another card or cash. He asked to pay by cheque instead, which we wernt able to accept.
He kicked off, started shouting "Don't you know who I am!" 🙄 5 minute rant, and then left in a grump without his shopping.

Connie from holby city came in on another occasion, she was lovely 😊

SunnyD44 · 30/08/2022 12:41

I just googled him too!
I wouldn’t recognise him in the street so he’d hate me.

Although now I know what an arse he is then I’d pretend not to know him anyway 😁

Shocked at David Walliams too!
I thought he’d be genuinely nice and down to earth.

BettyOBarley · 30/08/2022 12:42

What a knob.

Hope you said something back to him!

Lacey247 · 30/08/2022 12:42

I asked Nick Grimshaw at Manchester airport if my sister could have a picture taken with him. He said no and walked away! We had landed and we’re just waiting to collect luggage so it wasn’t like he had a flight to catch

He’s an actor and a very good one - his breakthrough was in Empire of the Sun when he was 13. Among many others, the Dark Knight and brilliant in The Big Short.
However, as we all know, talent has no bearing on personality.

I didn’t realise Christian Bale was the kid in Empire of The Sun. my cousin was some sort of filming stand in for him. So when setting up the filming before the actual filming started. Guess they were he same height/age.

Google "Christian Bale I want you off the set " for an example of his twattery.

Ooh he is vile, that's awful

George clooney - charming & gorge
Will Ferrell - so funny & fab

Georgeskitchen · 30/08/2022 12:44

@LindaEllen what a very diva-ish way to behave by someone who's better known for marrying (and divorcing) a footballer rather than her average singing voice 🤣

Jess Glynn doesn't seem to realise she is extremely fortunate to have had any success given that she has such a hideous voice. Whenever she comes on the radio I ask myself this (and then quickly turn over).

Amen.

Tracey Emin audibly huffed at me from behind as I was walking down an escalator at King's Cross station. There was a buggy blocking the way and I couldn't get past but she assumed I was just stopping for no reason!

My DREAM is to meet Tracey Emin - rudeness and all! I think she's wonderful. She could tell me to fuck off and I would probably thank her (sad).

All the slebs I've known have been nice so I can't offer any juicy stuff.

Oh come on, that’s reasonable.

I know of a C-list celeb - won’t name in case sued - who was in a lift in a hospital when the door opened to a very sick baby waiting to be brought to ICU by a team of medics/nurses. Everyone else hurried out of the lift but this person refused to move. The ICU team simply waited for the next lift, eyebrows raised but no point in aggro.

ImSteveMcDonald · 30/08/2022 12:46

I've met some lovely "celebrity" people through my work, interestingly I found the more famous they were, the nicer they were. However. The best example (yonks ago) of Being A Twat was actually the actor who played Steve McDonald in Corrie Grin He walked into my workplace and said "I'm Steve McDonald" as in he actually said Steve McDonald not his actual name. It was a long time ago though, I am sure he has grown up since then.

The nicest out of all of them, was Martin Shaw (think this was Judge Deed era). He was so polite and kind and extremely sexy actually . And he didn't walk into my office and say "I'm Judge John Deed" Grin

Hulahoops78 · 30/08/2022 12:47

Matt Lucas - a friend of mine works at a theatre where he was performing. He made a series of diva demands. One of which was leaving his dressing room window overnight which was a security risk. The theatre said no so he packed a bag, stormed off and refused to perform!

Amanda Holden - probably doesn't need much of an explanation. Very high opinion of herself and wasn't happy that somebody had been given a bigger dressing room than herself.

Patrick Stewart - very horrible man. Very rude to the theatre staff and patronising.

Michael Ball - a genuinely lovely lovely man. Time for everybody. The above could learn a thing or two from him!

someone should have grabbed them by the scruff and hoofed them out of the lift.

TheClockEnd · 30/08/2022 12:47

Brilliant thread, OP! 🏆

Adrian Chiles… rude, miserable, barely spoke, just unpleasant.

Kris Akabussi… loads of fun, chatted to everyone, just a lovely guy💯

John Craven (Newsround) charming man, doesn’t look his age, chatted to anyone who pulled up a chair, a real gent.
His daughter, however - bossy, loud, rude and unpleasant.

Joel Dommett… signed an autograph for my son, lovely man.

Tom Allen… really funny, beautifully dressed, took my arm as we walked through the building! Loved him!

I agree with others. Nothing wrong with Nicole's behaviour here. From what I've heard, she's said to be very nice to colleagues and fans.

ImSteveMcDonald · 30/08/2022 12:48

I always get Christian Bale confused with Gareth Bale.

I’ve worked in a hospital before and they would normally ask people to leave the lift. Surprised they didn’t in this case

I second this, she is truly vile and I have heard this from two different people.

One is a family member who works in the industry and said she is the most up her own arse, diva ever and he's met Mariah (who is a doll, apparently). She talks in the manner of a roadman and tries to act black, kissing her teeth at the mere suggestion of anything that displeases her, which is often.

The other helps organise a local concert in a park, she literally cancelled on the afternoon of the thing, or her people did. He had sympathy to start with as apparently she was very unwell, in bed, no voice, being sick.

His sympathy ran out sharpish when it was in the press of supposedly very unwell Jess, miraculously recovered and out clubbing.

I can add another name though, Brix Smith. What a rude, self important toad she is. I was at an event which she was at with a number of famous types, and her and one other were possibly the most ignorant pair of women I've ever met. Would not go to the bar for themselves, instead they kept shouting at staff to hurry up and serve them. They were bitchy as hell and could be quite deliberately heard slagging off what us civilians (their word) were wearing. Horrid pair of harpies. Brix then came out from her little claimed area to go to the loo, pushing everyone out the way as she went. I think she was incredibly drunk but I've never liked her since because she had no manners, grace or kindness at all.

Jess also pulled out of the IOW festival on the day quoting "severe anxiety". Turns out she had been out partying with Mel B until dawn (at least!) and was incapable of stringing a sentence together, let alone performing. So unprofessional!
