Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

1000 replies

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Can't believe the amount of people who don't know who Christian Bale is! madness! go watch some films!

Why? I don't like films. Well, not Hollywood bollocksbluster films, anyway. I like films with plots, characters, dialogue and cinematography rather than explosions and computer graphics.

Then try velvet goldmine.

Or empire of the rising sun.

(Barely a celeb, )but I was at a reception at Downing Street a while back (May was still on office), just shy of 9 months pregnant. At one point we needed to move to a different room to watch a musical performance but by the time I got there, only one seat left in the room. I approach and ask to sit, because the person un the next chair - the comedian Michael Dapaah (aka "Man's Not Hot") - has his man bag on it. And to my complete surprise he says no - because he is saving it for a friend.

Now I was very VERY big at this stage and in high heels (my own fault, I know) - very clearly in need of a seat (everything thus far that evening had required standing).

His friend arrives moments later (a very fit and able looking guy, maybe late 20s) and he starts to sit. Then sort of notices me and decides he is actually not going to stick around. So then they both get up and wander off somewhere else. At which point I was finally able to down! Unfollowed him on social media that day and have never watched one of his skits since then.

@Knittingnanny2 is your son called Dominic by any chance?!

blackpearwhitelilies · 01/09/2022 03:46

I taught Cillian Murphy. He was nice enough,. A v typical first year student.

99redballoonsgobyy · 01/09/2022 03:50

Corries Sean (Anthony Cotton) used to sometimes go in a shop near me, none of the shop staff liked him as they all said he was incredibly rude and arrogant.

CanadianJohn · 01/09/2022 04:25

I've never met nobody. That's what comes with living in a small town, and being virtually reclusive. About 50 years ago I sat next to Joyce Carol Oates at a poetry reading. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Carol_Oates

Brief interactions with Margot Robbie over three days when working as an extra. An unpleasant, stuck-up witch with all of us.
An interaction with Vanessa Feltz. Full of her own self-importance, who never deigned to speak to anyone ordinary. Came across as a very miserable person, so perhaps there was something going on in her background.

Helen Mirren literally elbowing me out of the way to push in to the front of the queue for airport baggage security. There were only 3 of us in the queue.

Jamie Oliver's entourage - just as he was becoming famous - asking me to leave the computer area in the BA lounge so he could have some privacy. I was the only person in a huge room.

I like Helen Mirren over all but she often tells a story about a friend of hers offering a taxi driver a cigarette (different times) and how that was so beautiful to her, that she treated him equally.
That always rubbed me the wrong way. Why WOULDN'T you treat a taxi driver equally? That kind of thing says a lot about character, I think

Judi Dench, over a year ago…in a dream!!
Can’t even remember what she did/said but it cheesed me off and still bothers me now!

No!! I won't hear a bad word about our Judi!! She lives near me and is often spotted having lunch at the local garden centre & M&S cafe. A friend of mine and her son were once queuing next to her at the farm shop and she chatted to my friend's son for ages and was lovely. I know quite a few people locally who have had interactions with her and all have said that she's wonderful

ArcheryAnnie · 01/09/2022 07:34

There's a couple of posters here who have reported bad encounters with Konnie Huq, but I was working at a small charity do, where she'd come to do a favour for the event. She was very nice to everyone, but she struck me as very shy. She'd obviously put some thought and preparation for what she did that day, too, didn't just phone it in. I liked her.

Theundertaker · 01/09/2022 07:38

Not my story, but re Judy Dench, she was apparently crossing a road in the west end. A cab driver shouted out of his window at her to, "Hurry up, you cunt." She shouts back, "That's Dame Cunt to you."
🤣

Knittingnanny2 · 01/09/2022 08:04

Crikey. Just goes to show how much hassle and abuse they probably have to put up with.

This is ace! Cristiano Ronaldo once came into the cafe I was assistant manager in with his mum and brother. We got quite a few Man United/City footballers in because of where we were so I was quite used to dealing with them and usually just treated them like any other customer.

However, my little six year old cousin ADORED Ronaldo.

Just before Ronaldo got up to leave, I thanked him for coming and quietly asked if he could sign a napkin for my little cousin who idolised him beyond anything.

He exploded, literally screaming at me in the coffee shop in front of everyone. “Who do you think you are?! Hey? Why would I do anything like that for you? You are nothing. I’m here for a nice time with my family, not to play nice with people like you. I shouldn’t be expected to sign autographs at a family meal. Where’s your manager? I’m NEVER coming back here again. None of my teammates will EVER come back here again. I want to complain to your manager about your disgusting behaviour.”

I was shocked, to say the least, but just smiled and explained I was the manager and he was welcome to complain to the owners if he so desired.

I understand they’re under pressure 24/7 but a) he’s well compensated for it and b) fans come with the territory. Go be an insurance broker if you don’t want people asking for your autograph.

Twat.

On the other hand, Beckham was always super lovely (he signed my mates workshirt before he left for the continent as she was devastated he was leaving), Solskjaer, Scholes, Keane and all that were super sound and when I met Laurence Dallaglio, I was shaking so hard, I spilled his coffee three times 😂. He was incredibly lovely about it. One twat in many ain’t bad!

He shouldn’t have shouted at you but your behaviour was really unprofessional and he had a right to be pissed off.

mondaytosunday · 01/09/2022 08:19

I wouldn't blame a celeb for refusing a selfie or not answering to 'Hey X'. Must be constant.
And we all have off days - some of these encounters you wouldn't think anything of if it was just Joe Bloggs.
As for Patrick Stewart - two friends saw him in his one man show A Christmas Carol and met him at the stage door later. They said he was charm itself and offered them a lift in his car to their hotel. He was lovely. So I guess it all depends on the day.
My cousin worked in the film industry and those you expect to be jerks usually are. Her favourite was Whoopi Goldberg who she said was very kind and gave a gift to the entire crew. Ray Liotta was an idiot, Bryan Singer a total sweary a&@hole, and Mel Gibson would take his shoes off in meetings and his feet stank (but otherwise ok to work with). She worked with Nicole too but said she was fine.
My only encounter was Richard Harris who asked for directions. While explaining a young woman was pestering him non stop 'you're famous I've seen you I know who you are' and he told her politely to leave him alone. She wouldn't but he never got nasty, just walked away.

Are you kidding, @TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross ? He behaved like a spoiled twat. Without fans, footballers would be nothing. And op wasn't unprofessional at all!🙄

lookeelikee · 31/08/2022 22:58

Back in the day I was a dead ringer for a TV/film actor. This was before social media and mobile phones.
I had been away for a year in the USA and had flown home to the UK. As I was collecting my bags I was approached by a number of people trying to get my autograph. It was only when I produced my passport to prove that I wasn't them that these people believed me.
This went on for quite some time throughout the next six months until i changed my hair. (And sometimes that didn't help)
I even got approached on a bus once. The person came and sat right next to me asking questions about a TV series I was supposed to be in.
I can assure you that it is a nightmare being approached all the time for autographs and people shouting at you and generally thinking you're their best mate. And to cap it off I wasn't even famous, nor would I want to be.
I've met hundreds of celebs, royalty, lords and ladies over the years and never treated them anything other than ordinary folk and likewise I can't say that I've ever been treated badly either.
So, I can well believe a celebrity being stand offish or even rude if they have been accosted for the umpteenth time that day.
Cut them some slack and stay away from them.

I get this. I am a big F1 fan and WAS friends with this girl who was massively obsessed with one driver in particular...it's how we became friends, because I joined her website to talk on forums (going back over 20 years here...) anyway as social meda evolved and we chatted on there so did the millions of posts about how she stalked this driver and others and was 'so lucky to meet them' and I just thought it was obsessive and stalkish behaviour (similar to those people who wait outside football stadiums and concert halls etc waiting.)

We fell out a while ago because she was entitled. Her son liked a particular football team and she posted her upset of how upset he was and was disappointed the team had sold his favourite player...or sacked their manager (can't remember which) on his birthday and how it had ruined his birthday. I told her to get a grip as the world doesn't revolve around her (in a diplomatic way) and got a barage of DMs about how disappointed she was I reacted this way since her son is a child etc and because of the job I did!

I don't like seeing SM posts where people have clearly hung around to meet people, or where they've interrupted dinner or whatever to get an autograph or a photo...I find it cringe and embarrassing so I understand why you disliked the attention as a lookalike.

Wouldloveanother · 01/09/2022 08:30

Laughing at the posts saying celebs should be able to go about their normal lives completely unbothered by fans. Seriously, you can’t be that naive? Remind yourselves that they’ve got the money to basically vanish and live a nice quiet life somewhere if they choose to, but they don’t. Underneath it all they’ve got huge egos and would be gutted (not to mention skint) if their fans ignored them overnight.

How weren't they unprofessional. They were there to do a job, I'm not excusing Ronaldo, and being a supporter of the team he supports, it isn't the first time I have heard these kind of stories about him (e.g. I heard during the pre season friendly he 'walked out of at half time' that he ignored a load of fans and in particular one with a disability who had waited a while to obtain his autograph)However I have been in a situation where I have been in a place of work where a famous person has been in attendance on more than one occasion and I have just left them alone, it's the right thing to do.....

He had gone into the cafe she managed for a coffee or whatever with his family and she - the bloody manager - is there asking him for an autograph! In what world is that NOT unprofessional?!

I’ve taught the kids of a couple of famous people in my time and am just trying to imagine the head’s face if I’d done the parents’ meeting appointment and then said, ‘Oh, by the way, would you mind signing something for X relative.’ The head would quite rightly have gone absolutely ballistic.

MsTSwift · 01/09/2022 08:38

A friend worked with judi dench she is lovely. Really annoys me that fil who
has never met bangs on about how much he can’t stand her 🙄. Think it’s because she’s not the “Dolly bird” even featured compliant type

MsTSwift · 01/09/2022 08:40

Agree the people in the wrong are the numpties pestering. Utter cringe. Love the Annie Lennox story a prat approached her while she was shopping with her kids “are you Annie Lennox?!” She smiles and responds “not today” 😁

LittleBearPad · 01/09/2022 09:14

Some people are being judged here on the basis of about 2 seconds interaction!

stillherenow · 01/09/2022 09:14

Gordon Brown is lovely. I used to make tea for him and Blair and while Blair was fine Brown would always stop and look me in the eye and thank me. He's very warm and friendly.
