Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

1000 replies

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Ive googled her and I’m still none the wiser.

If you've ever seen the Jet2 advert, you know her most famous song as its been on there for ages.

Bryan Ferry. I used to waitress at verrrry posh events and he was playing a set at one. The way to the stage was through the kitchen and we all had to turn away and were not allowed to look at him as he walked through. God knows what he thought would happen if us peasants got a glimpse!

This has made me very sad. My musical hero —and future husband— but I’m not altogether surprised

Surely saying you don't know who Christian Bale is, is a bit like saying you don't know who George Cloney is, or Leonardo DiCaprio?

I know who George Clooney is and Leonardo DiCaprio, but had to google Christian Bale !

I'm in the husband queue! Grin (47 years and counting...) @BitOutOfPractice

I was encouraged to read upthread that apparently it is often the "management" who insist on things like this unbeknowns to the actual star. I know BF is extremely shy, but have heard much more positive reports about him, eg bailing out the village shop to the tune of thousands during lockdown.

Sat waiting for her to come out and perform at the IOW festival one year, only for an announcement to say that she had pulled out due to anxiety and exhaustion - literally at the second she was due on stage. Turns out she'd been partying at the spice girls wrap party until 7am and was hungover. Luckily Richard Ashcroft filled in at short notice with an incredible acoustic set (bonus! not a massive fan of hers anyway). Permanently banned from performing at the festival. Rude and unprofessional.

Double win!

NEVER FORGIVE HER!

The astral plane knows her better than you do, and is warning you. (I dreamt of her once and she gave me a kitten - it was a Burmese. Obvioualy she likes me better than you. Sorry about that 😁)

Helen Mirren literally elbowing me out of the way to push in to the front of the queue for airport baggage security. There were only 3 of us in the queue.

Jamie Oliver's entourage - just as he was becoming famous - asking me to leave the computer area in the BA lounge so he could have some privacy. I was the only person in a huge room.

@backatschool I hope you told then to f off

One of my adult worked on a recording with Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep. He said Meryl was absolutely lovely…….

Roger Federer- knocked on my (male) friend's hotel room door, when my friend was practising for a concert. He complimented him on his beautiful clarinet playing, said he'd been enjoying it, then walked away without even introducing himself. Smile

My absolute idol. Phew, so glad it was a positive story, I couldn't bear to imagine him be anything other than lovely

Catsservant · 31/08/2022 18:48

My 24 year old daughter saw Gok Wan canal street in Manchester. She said he was lovely.

I am very poor at visual recognition of people (may unfortunately sometimes unintentionally come across as rude myself for that reason), so would not be likely to spot and call out to celebrities in the street. But I do think it's a bit entitled to complain about celebrities not responding to such approaches; even celebrities have a right to time off!

I have met Patrick Stewart, Philip Pullman and Val McDermid and found them all very nice on these meetings. My most personally thrilling celebrity experience was talking long-distance on the phone with Tom Lehrer, of whom I've been a total fangirl since childhood. It was about getting his permission to quote from one of his songs in something I was writing, and he was really nice (and gave me the permission). This was some years ago, before everything of this sort was done online.

I lived in Wimbledon during my youth, and one of my schoolmate's main claims to fame was that Ilie Nastase had nearly run her over!

Oh my God, Tom Lehrer? Really? That's amazing, I am so envious.

Utterlyexhausted · 31/08/2022 18:53

Yes I saw Gok Wan in a traffic jam on the m5 years ago & he gave me a lovely smile & wave!

QueSyrahSyrah · 31/08/2022 18:57

@CPL593H Agree about sometimes it being management. I used to work in a live music bar, usually local bands or those on the pub circuit. We once had a band a bit bigger (I forget who, they were up and coming and had a popular single out though) and it was impressed on us that we had to supply a massive rider for them.

Management duly went out and got every (ridiculous) thing on the list only for the band themselves to turn up and be utterly surprised, overwhelmed and very humble about it all.

Trinny, vile, vile, vile woman.
elle mcphearson, same

I met Trinny (and Susannah) about 17 years ago when my DD was a baby, they were really nice and admired DD's outfit.

Me and a friend had to pass Emma Thompson [and friends] on a very narrow cliff path once. She was very smiley, very attractive and charming, her eyes are amazing.

Got a real soft spot for her now.

LaughingCat · 31/08/2022 19:30

This is ace! Cristiano Ronaldo once came into the cafe I was assistant manager in with his mum and brother. We got quite a few Man United/City footballers in because of where we were so I was quite used to dealing with them and usually just treated them like any other customer.

However, my little six year old cousin ADORED Ronaldo.

Just before Ronaldo got up to leave, I thanked him for coming and quietly asked if he could sign a napkin for my little cousin who idolised him beyond anything.

He exploded, literally screaming at me in the coffee shop in front of everyone. “Who do you think you are?! Hey? Why would I do anything like that for you? You are nothing. I’m here for a nice time with my family, not to play nice with people like you. I shouldn’t be expected to sign autographs at a family meal. Where’s your manager? I’m NEVER coming back here again. None of my teammates will EVER come back here again. I want to complain to your manager about your disgusting behaviour.”

I was shocked, to say the least, but just smiled and explained I was the manager and he was welcome to complain to the owners if he so desired.

I understand they’re under pressure 24/7 but a) he’s well compensated for it and b) fans come with the territory. Go be an insurance broker if you don’t want people asking for your autograph.

Twat.

On the other hand, Beckham was always super lovely (he signed my mates workshirt before he left for the continent as she was devastated he was leaving), Solskjaer, Scholes, Keane and all that were super sound and when I met Laurence Dallaglio, I was shaking so hard, I spilled his coffee three times 😂. He was incredibly lovely about it. One twat in many ain’t bad!

Ugh gross, of course there was. Being a "perfectionist" doesn't give you the right to scream, shout and insult people

It does if they are ignorant to walk on set when an actor is in the middle of his work.

I was once in a lift when Damon Albarn got in. He pressed a button and nothing happened so I reached past him and pressed it again and the doors closed. He huffed and sighed loudly and his bad vibes filled the lift as we ascended.

Lord help Damon if I ever find myself in a lift with him 🤣

warmeduppizza · 31/08/2022 20:07

Bob Dylan. Totally out of it, rude and oblivious. Just looked straight through me when I was trying to show him where to sit, then staggered off in the wrong direction, yawning.

Rupert Grint damaged my daughter's pram in a Pizza Express in London.
Not even an apology.

What on earth did he even want her pram for? That's a very weird thing to demand from someone! (Was your daughter in it, or is she the owner of it and her baby was in it? Either way it's weird.)

Damaged, not demanded :)
