Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Jerry Sadowictz (?) used to take huge and unpleasant delight in returning porn videos he’d bought from our store (why our record shop sold porn I will never know) and targeting young female staff to do the returns, he’d tell us why he was returning them in order to get a reaction. Not graphic enough, stuff about genitals, not enough deep throat etc etc and fucking revel in making female teenage staff uncomfortable. And he was fucking rude about it.

In the end security had a code for when he came in, and I always handled the return. I was 18 but just wouldn’t react to his bullshit. He hated me and I refused to give him the satisfaction of being ‘too edgy’ for the girls to deal with.

Absolute cock juggling thundercunt that one.

I wonder if the comedians who are defending him over his cancelled show at the Edinburgh Fringe might change their view of him if they read this, @YesitsBess. I haven’t seen the show, but read the reports, and your story doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I do like your description of him as a cock-juggling thundercunt though - beautifully worded!

@Lunar270
My wife went to school with Adam Woodyatt and bumped into him in town. It was completely random as we don't live anywhere near where they went to school (mid Wales).
Anyway she went up to him, said hello and mentioned that they went to school together. He just shrugged disinterestedly and couldn't look less interested.

Why should he have been interested? She was probably the 15th person that day to approach and maybe he just wished to get on with his day without random people interrupting him.

To be honest I thought the same. He did not know her, so why would he care that they went to the same school. I would not have even bothered the man with that.

Not met anyone but in response to the Christian Bale thing. I just watched a documentary about AHA because Morten Harket! And he met some fans, got in the car and his assistant handed him some anti bacterial hand gel. I just thought how rude and he mentioned flu. But then I thought if you are constantly around people who want to touch you - shake your hands, grab your clothes especially since Covid - you can imagine being a bit wary of people handing you things, touching you. But you don't need to be rude about it however.

That level of fame must be exhausting. He opened the car door and the screaming started. He said the car was his only bit of privacy. I felt a bit sorry for him.

I mean, I was in the supermarket last weekend and bumped into someone I went to school with and haven't seen for 25 years. I was happy to chat! Why wouldn't you? It was nice to see them.

Is there something missing as I don't see how he was rude?

He got in the car, his assistant handed him some antibac gel and he used it. What was rude about that?

This won’t be popular on here 😳 but met Boris Johnson when he was mayor at a charity event, lovely, bumbling and bloody funny, remembered everyone’s name.

I believe you - his entire persona is built on a foundation of false bonhomie. This is how he got elected. The number of people at the last election who said to me "Oh, I LOVE Boris! He makes me laugh" Thye'll be laughing on the other side of their faces now.

And the comment about Dom Littlewood doesn't surprise me in the slightest. H has Little Man Syndrome written all over him, along with an unhealthy large dose of Up His Own Arse

I8toys · 31/08/2022 14:30

I agree he wasn't rude. It was my initial reaction that thought that's a bit rude but as I say I thought about it if you were shaking lots of hands you would also get the anti bac out.

I8toys · 31/08/2022 14:33

My rude comment was in reference to Christian Bale being a bit of a dick about touching a package.

Ah ok, I was just wondering if there was something in the doc that wasn't in your post, as in he got into the car and moaned at all "the fucking scum out there" or something 😂

Agree, I'd be doing the same. The Queen wears gloves while meeting the plebs and no one says that's rude.

I8toys · 31/08/2022 14:35

No not at all - he seemed so jaded and was glad of the peace and quiet.

Chargingup · 31/08/2022 14:36

I’m not particularly interested in strangers lives really and I hate making small talk. Assume I’d be the same if famous. Doesn’t make me an arsehole

Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs · 31/08/2022 14:37

Off topic slightly, but Morten is a beautiful man, swoon!!

I8toys · 31/08/2022 14:38

Bloody hell he's gorgeous.

MsTSwift · 31/08/2022 14:40

Emma Thompson used to live near me and was notoriously really nice and friendly. Helena Bonham Carter as well i was once in a very stressful situation and she walked past and gave me (an utter random) a lovely smile so I have always liked her ever since!.

Mistletow · 31/08/2022 14:41

My friend has a brief dalliance with Dane Bowers just after his KP break up. She said he had a tiny little thing and he slagged KP off then said he didn't want to speak about her

The author Lauren Henderson was rude to me and my friend in a bar. It was at a crime writers convention during the day and she came in with Val McDermid and a couple of other crime authors. We were sat at a middle table along a wall and there wasn’t quite enough room for them to sit down in the corner. Now, I would have moved and did move, as you do in those circumstances, but she didn’t even ask. She glared at us, tossed her hair and said “oh, they’ll move!” with a genuine Tinkly Laugh, then threw her bag on our table and turned her back on us. My friend said “Goodness, how rude!” and we moved up, mentally striking her off our list of Authors Whose Books We Would Buy.

Jane Jakeman, on the other hand, was lovely, as were Ian Rankin and Joolz Denby. Mark Timlin was a grumpy sod, but maybe he was just having a bad day (it wasn’t unsolicited approach, he was sat there for a book signing).

There's NO WAY I would have moved if she'd done that to me - even if I'd been intending to.

I'd have handed her her bag and said "You've dropped something"

tiredmum83 · 31/08/2022 15:28

@AnnieSnap David Walliams is a well known creep towards young girls and his "fans".

Becknutmeg · 31/08/2022 15:32

The super vet (Noel Fitzpatrick) is really horrible.

pagopago · 31/08/2022 15:32

Naomi Campbell is a complete nightmare and just as rude and demanding as she appears on the TV and in the press.

ancientgran · 31/08/2022 15:41

I found myself standing behind Lenny Henry in the checkout at my local supermarket. Holiday town and I assume he was on holiday but it seemed to be kept quiet.

I just stood there quietly, he probably didn't want to perform at the checkout so I left him alone and then some of his shopping launched itself onto the floor and I picked it up for him. He smiled and thanked me and was very nice to the assistant who went a bit to pieces.

Sorry about your mum, I've been there and remember the 3 hr drive home sobbing all the way. Not safe at all but I also had a sick child at home, not serious but she wanted her mum.

I did have a funny car one with an Irish actor whose name I can't remember. I was trying to reverse off my tight drive and someone had parked opposite so it was really difficult. I also had the slight distraction of a 2 year old with a broken leg in the back of the car, I was heading to A&E at the time. Well this guy didn't like waiting so he sounded his horn at me. I'd had enough and got out of the car and offered him the car keys and suggested if he was so clever maybe he'd like to do it for me. He looked terrified and wound his window up. It wasn't the moment to mess with me.

So actually 3 mad days out of 70 years but I'm sure the people involved wouldn't say anything nice about me.

Oh, I don't know... It sounds like you might have won some grudging respect from the Irish actor!

JungleRed · 31/08/2022 15:58

I am torn between being supremely jealous over encounters with Antonio Banderas and Mads Mikkelson and utterly relieved that they aren't knobheads.

SpilltheTea · 31/08/2022 16:02

A friend met many celebrities through work. She said Mariah Carey was the worst, really rude and demanding. Michael Jackson was the nicest and really apologetic about the chaos he caused by just being there.

Imnotswallowingthat · 31/08/2022 16:05

I live a couple of doors down from Sam Fender, he is the nicest lad you could ever meet. Always acknowledges people and happy to have a chat about mundane everyday things, very down to earth and someone who hasn't forgotten his roots. No entourage or "my people", even puts his wheelie bin out himself ! Pretty handsome up close too 😁
