Rudest encounter with a celeb I've ever experienced

1000 replies

chattp · 30/08/2022 11:17

Not that I've had many!

But Christian Bale was in London 'itsu' a few months back.

He was buying something but I'd just picked it out of the chilled section. I saw he went to reach out for it at the same time so offered it to him, as I liked something else anyway

His response? 'You've touched it. Why would I want it now?'

I was really shocked at how rude he was!

Can confirm
George Ezra, lovely, cheeky and fun 🙂

The super vet (Noel Fitzpatrick) is really horrible.

Oh no ! In what way ?

CulturePigeon · 31/08/2022 16:10

I hat the concept of 'celebrities' since it usually applies to obscure soap stars, 'presenters' (was there ever a more ego-trippy job??) reality TV participants etc.

I wouldn't recognise most people off the telly (radio listener mostly) but would never approach or bother one of these rarefied beings if I saw one, obviously out of courtesy, but sometimes because I couldn't be less interested and sometimes because I don't want to boost their egos further.

Becoming an actor, presenter, model, TV start etc is extremely competitive and these people have fought their way up a very greasy pole. Why would anyone imagine they are nice, kind, self-effacing, courteous or interested in anyone but themselves? Those characteristics wouldn't have got them very far!!!

I met Kim Jong-un a couple of years ago, he was awful. I took the last packet of crisps from the counter at Starbucks and he was so rude about it & complained to the staff that he only ate salt and vinegar crisps. They eventually placated him with a blueberry muffin but it was a tense few minutes.

This one really surprises me! Everyone in North Korea says he's such a lovely guy. Maybe you caught him on a bad day?

Agree, I'd be doing the same. The Queen wears gloves while meeting the plebs and no one says that's rude.

Ah, but the queen just doesn't want to pass her germs onto other people, bless her... 😁

SpamhappyTootsie · 31/08/2022 16:21

@Emotionalsupportviper
I probably wouldn’t have moved these days, because I’m a lot older and give less of a shit, but at the time I was a bit “oooh, Val McDermid!”. Who I also went off a lot that day.
My job at the time involved a lot of book buying and recommendations. LH didn’t get many after that Wink

tillytoodles1 · 31/08/2022 16:23

My daughter went to school with ex-England player Michael Owen and his wife. They still live locally and are very down to earth, people tend to just let them be.
They're quite often in the local pub.

Scepticalwotsits · 31/08/2022 16:23

worst encounter was probably more in earshot then directly myself and it was when i was at uni many moons ago and pat sharpe was bragging to a couple of lads how he used to perv down the twins tops

Imnotswallowingthat · 31/08/2022 16:05

I live a couple of doors down from Sam Fender, he is the nicest lad you could ever meet. Always acknowledges people and happy to have a chat about mundane everyday things, very down to earth and someone who hasn't forgotten his roots. No entourage or "my people", even puts his wheelie bin out himself ! Pretty handsome up close too 😁

I'm not far from him either, not seen or spoken to him myself but I've also heard the same from people who have spoken to him.

I've heard that before. Ds was talking to someone that worked at his place, she asked if he was as lovely irl as on the telly and the girl said "well he was to the animals...
Was gutted to hear it I love him.

My DREAM is to meet Tracey Emin - rudeness and all! I think she's wonderful. She could tell me to fuck off and I would probably thank her (sad).

All the slebs I've known have been nice so I can't offer any juicy stuff.

I met her in a shop and chatted to her. She was absolutely lovely.

My daughter was at his Finsbury Park concert and arrived very early to stand at the front. He paid for a McDonalds and got it delivered to them. They didn’t meet him so it was purely out of kindness.

Isn’t the Britney Spears song Toxic about him? It was written by Kathy Dennis his ex.

Unfortunately I can confirm this is true.
I'm a vet nurse, the industry is very tight knit and people talk.
One of my ex colleagues left our practice to work for him. Let's just say his television persona is not at all like his real character.

He is reputedly VERY difficult to work for.
That's all I can say but believe me, the "rumours" are very true.

John Terry is the biggest arse wipe ever.
I am so not surprised that he did this.
How bloody awful

Not a personal encounter but a few years ago someone posted a photo of John Terry on SM in his football playing days getting out of his Range Rover he had parked in a disabled bay (outside a betting shop).
The comments below it ripped the piss out of him mercilessly -- congratulating him for making it as a Premiership footballer despite his disabilities.
So a complete tosser even then.

ALongHardWinter · 31/08/2022 17:14

Who is Christian Bale? 😂😂😂 Love it!

Huntswomanonthemove · 31/08/2022 17:16

Michel Roux Jr is absolutely lovely, a real gent.

ddl1 · 31/08/2022 17:20

I am very poor at visual recognition of people (may unfortunately sometimes unintentionally come across as rude myself for that reason), so would not be likely to spot and call out to celebrities in the street. But I do think it's a bit entitled to complain about celebrities not responding to such approaches; even celebrities have a right to time off!

I have met Patrick Stewart, Philip Pullman and Val McDermid and found them all very nice on these meetings. My most personally thrilling celebrity experience was talking long-distance on the phone with Tom Lehrer, of whom I've been a total fangirl since childhood. It was about getting his permission to quote from one of his songs in something I was writing, and he was really nice (and gave me the permission). This was some years ago, before everything of this sort was done online.

I lived in Wimbledon during my youth, and one of my schoolmate's main claims to fame was that Ilie Nastase had nearly run her over!

@Abhannmor I’m trying to reply to your comment on John Cooper Clarke but can’t work out how to copy quote.

I’m really pleased that you got a good response from JCC but, honestly, I’d be surprised at anything else. He lives in our town and is unfailingly nice and very pleasant. He doesn’t drive and so is often seen out and about walking in the town and is always very friendly. He definitely has not had his head turned by fame. His friend Martin Newell is the same.

Some of these other slebs could learn a lot from both of them.

If he was taking part in an event he was probably in the zone as many are before they ride.

I’d agree with that, if I’m warming up - particularly if it’s not going well - a herd of tinsel wrapped kangaroos could tap dance past the arena and I’d not notice, never mind noticing who is trying to catch my eye!

I’ve met Gyles Brandreth and Ruby Wax at book signings - Gyles was very funny and utterly charming, Ruby was friendly but seemed very brittle, like she was just hanging on in there by her fingernails, poor woman.

A friend met many celebrities through work. She said Mariah Carey was the worst, really rude and demanding. Michael Jackson was the nicest and really apologetic about the chaos he caused by just being there.

Mariah Carey demanded we repaint the entire back rooms basement of our store before she came to do a signing. If I ever see that particular shade of ‘Mariah’ purple, I have to refrain from lobbing bricks at it.

Greenstar22 · 31/08/2022 17:38

Gutted the supervet is a knob.
Stephen Graham, chatty and smiley but I thought he was a bit cocky and up himself.

That's lovely to hear. He caught my son staring at his snakeskin boots and smiled with a cheerie ' ello there! ' in his Mancunian accent. I'm glad he's a fellow non driver!

Jess Glynne.

My turn now to say "who?".

Turns to Google to see if I have been missing anything.

Ive googled her and I’m still none the wiser.

My sister worked with his sister in Virgin Active in Poole. Apparently he wasn't in contact with any of his family and reading a couple of these comments I can see why....

If you're talking about Christian Bale, I think his parents used him as a cash cow and basically pimped him out as a child. He is a product of his upbringing, they're all as bad as each other.
