One pan meals. A lamb thing.

It's cooked on a tray, in the oven. He's also used a pestle and mortar.
Then he twonked the lamb joint on the oven shelf so that all the fat dripped through, on to the tray below.

Then he splatted all that on to a wooden board, and used another pot for the juices.

Ladies and gentlemen more ladies, I present to you, The Man Who Doesn't Wash Up.

@Appalonia you said what I was thinking 😂

AlmostAJillSandwich · 22/08/2022 23:12

No, he ruined school dinners, all drink options removed other than chemical/plastic tasting "sweetener" sweetened fruit flavoured fizzy water, and all interesting/good sandwich fillings like chinese chicken, tikka, coronation chicken, prawn mayo, even cheese removed, and only ham, tuna, egg mayo, (all yuck!) or a bit of salad on a plain, unbuttered barm was all that was left. Went from enjoying a varied lunch to forcing down the same warm salad barm every day, made the days even more miserable.

PartnerInCrime · 22/08/2022 23:16

The title of this thread is 🔥🤣😂.

Fizbosshoes · 22/08/2022 23:17

Sorry if I missed something obvious but did anyone else wonder why he bought sheets of fresh lasagne and then cut into strips....?could he not have bought fresh tagliatelle?

Itstrueiagree · 22/08/2022 23:19

Whats worse he makes out he's a geezer the way he speaks when in actual fact the rest of his family are posh and he went to a posh school.

GettingStuffed · 22/08/2022 23:22

By the way I make my own baked beans they taste far better than a can,but they do take longer than 5 minutes. Would have not made it into 30 minute meals either

What can you even pretend to make in 15 min....? I bet there's loads of "flinging" and "bunging" and handfuls of stuff being thrown all over the place!

Surtsey · 22/08/2022 23:24

If anyone can cook a joint of lamb in half an hour, I'm a Dutchman.

New to story but must ask, "is that you jack"

Goldenbear · 22/08/2022 23:34

Is he really 'posh' really?? Nothing against it but he certainly has Essex twang.

Waitwhat23 · 22/08/2022 23:37

I actually don't mind the recipes for inspiration but his use of the ridiculously obnoxious phrase 'wazzy wazzy woo woo' (or some such shite) makes me almost grind my teeth to dust.

kateandme · 22/08/2022 23:41

There was nothing wrong with school meals.shit obsessed food culture was fuelled by that man at schools.kids weee getting fed.enjoying and couldn’t wait for lunch.chips Yeo,pizza yup, turkey twists yehhhh. But it was a balance. You also picked a big orange.milk or sandwiches sometimes.u were intuitive little bodies.then we all got told good and bad foods.what Belloc we shouldn’t have.we looked too much at our plates.diet culture was becoming rife, body image was blasted to shit.and voila little children feeling really uncertain about themselves.
and he walked away in the end.
i wanted my pink custard and glass of milk back thank you!

SpinCityBlues · 22/08/2022 23:42

@lunar1 that's Nigel Slater and he does 'suppers' from 'leftovers' that include haunches of venison or lamb with only a tiny bit missing, and as you say the blocks of cheese wrapped like a World War Two parcel.

Goldenbear · 22/08/2022 23:44

It is so boring watching people cook- my DH loves cooking but he is only here at the weekend to do it. Personally, I think an irony exists here as Jamie is passionate about delivering the message of home cooking helping the nation's health but I suggested to DH who moans incessantly about being a stone overweight that we are more obsessed with food than we have ever been. My parents were so thin as were many others of their generation and regularly ate fairly crap food. Lots of veg but crap noodles or beans on toast etc. The difference is food wasn't a hobby. My Mum wrote poetry and music as her hobby, my Dad played Tennis and was a member of the Liberal Democrats and actually canvassed etc. People did things in the past that was a bit more interesting than food IMO!

Those 30 minute meals took me about three hours, cost more than Christmas dinner at a Marriott and made my kitchen look like I'd just cooked for my entire village.

Do you know who I hate more though, Nigel someone I think. He had a stupid giant country home and vegetable garden that looked tended to bu a 24/7 Gardner.

He instructed us to get an 'old bit of cheese' from the fridge, I had my dried up, slightly mouldy block of red Lester. He appeared from his spotless fridge with a beautifully wrapped (with brown paper and twine) artisan block of cheese. I honestly wanted to drown him in his belfast sink.

You got lucky. Cheese is one of those things that people ( DH, DS) can eat without having to construct a meal. Hence never any cheese in the fridge no matter how frequently it’s bought.

I never had a full set of any of the ingredients in the “five ingredient” recipes. I mean like lamb stew I thought yes I have lamb, I bought rosemary to go with lamb, I have tomatoes in the cupboard ….and then olives ok blacked pitted ..not the multi coloured stone in one he wants but then they’re £4.50 so black will do.
and then fail at a jar of silver skin pickled onions FFS. It’s not Christmas.

SouperNoodle · 22/08/2022 23:56

I have never liked him. I call him Jamie Oliveoil because he always says "just a splash of olive oil" and then proceeds to pour half a bottle on whatever mess he's cooking.

DustinsHat · 23/08/2022 00:02

saraclara · 22/08/2022 21:48

I can't bear him, but his 'squashed part way through' roast potatoes have transformed my roast dinners

Yeah half squashing the baby new potatoes with a potato masher then chucking in half a pound of butter was an excellent Jamie tip.

Great thread

DustinsHat · 23/08/2022 00:04

Why does he put yoghurt on everything though, did you see him putting a big dollop of yoghurt on that fish pie!

Ilovetea33 · 23/08/2022 00:08

And there was also a TV series of the 15 minute meals, I think I still have some of the episodes I recorded.

SpinCityBlues · 23/08/2022 00:15

The start of the 15 minute meals:

"So, you've got your oven cranked up hot, your kettles boiled, your dishes and bowls and pans all out in the right place, your food processor out of the cupboard and at the ready, all the packets already opened and laid out on the bench, and all the vegetables washed ... and here we go ..."

Geppili · 23/08/2022 00:16

😂😂😂😂😂🤣
