One pan meals. A lamb thing.

It's cooked on a tray, in the oven. He's also used a pestle and mortar.
Then he twonked the lamb joint on the oven shelf so that all the fat dripped through, on to the tray below.

Then he splatted all that on to a wooden board, and used another pot for the juices.

Ladies and gentlemen more ladies, I present to you, The Man Who Doesn't Wash Up.

Sparklingbrook yes it's his fault & the sugar tax as well. He has treated adults & parents like 5 year old & told them what they can & can't drink. Now drinks are full of artificial sweetners & chemicals.

DustinsHat · 23/08/2022 00:38

'What can you even pretend to make in 15 min....? I bet there's loads of "flinging" and "bunging" and handfuls of stuff being thrown all over the place!'

One of the other chefs was a bit miffed with Jamie over the 15/30 minute meals thing because it was something they had planned to do - I think it was Raymond Blanc.

He could have made something lovely in 15 minutes too. A delicious tomato and mozzarella salad, ooh la la.

N0tfinished · 23/08/2022 00:43

I quite like him, if only because of his tip to check if meat is cooked through. One of the few TV tips that actually works. Also the crème fraiche instead of béchamel in lasagne thing. I don't think I've ever used a single other piece of information from another TV chef...

I can't get too agitated about the 30 minute meal or one pot malarkey either. It's all just a hook for marketing TV programmes isn't it?

He used to wipe his raw chicken soaked hands on a tea towel and fling it to the side. I don't know if he still does that but it drove me nuts.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/08/2022 01:57

I would pay good money to watch a JO masterchef type show, that was judged by 7yo kids. So Jamie is being his fat tongued self, but his dish is ruled out because 'It's got green bits in it' 'I don't like cheese', 'yuck, I don't like vegetables.'

Colouringaddict · 23/08/2022 02:18

He is banned from this house. My DS was 13 when JO went into schools to change the meals they were offered. My DS who is now in his 30’s has never forgiven him for banning his turkey twizzlers. He was known as the “thick tongued twunt” from that day on.

I quite like him, but his huge fat tongue is a bit off-putting.

when he was first on TV I had many thoughts on how his tongue could be used... 😛

They all did that on the telly, used a damp rag to wipe their hands after chicken. Gross.

I gave up on 30 minute meals after watching one episode and he was using a food processor to make his own butter 🙄.

I can’t stand him, BUT I did meet someone who did their training at Fifteen, and it got him out of homelessness and into a (successful) career, so I suppose there is that. I think possibly early-era Jamie was better?

Fifteen was one of his better ideas.

My brother used to be the custody sergeant in Newquay, I'm not sure how many of the Fifteen staff were known to him but I do know it wasn't unknown for JO to turn up at the magistrate's court to support his apprentices.

lollipoprainbow · 23/08/2022 04:10

I do love him but he is out of touch like all tv chefs, his kids and jools irritated me at the end stuffing their privileged little faces whilst a lot of kids are going hungry right now.

GoTeamRocket · 23/08/2022 05:24

A long time ago a once (and still broke) DH and I had a weekend away n Brighton. We only had the money for one meal out and we made the mistake of going to the, now defunct, Jamie restaurant chain. Worst. Meal. Ever.

Rude, poor service. Bland food. Small portions.

I have never, ever forgiven Jamie. Then to add insult to injury I broke my food processor trying to make one of his recipes.

Morehousework · 23/08/2022 05:45

we watched him make a simple Sunday lunch then laughed at how many food stylists, chefs, art directors etc had helped him make it!

night over work worries and this thread has cheered me up no end!

He belittled people for having overweight children despite the fact that as an adult he can’t manage to not be fat despite being rich, having loads of time etc. Yet a parent on NMW was supposed to provide the perfect diet at all times. Can’t stand hypocrits.

derxa · 23/08/2022 06:45

He does go shopping though. I saw him with his kids in our local Waitrose.

Snowraingain · 23/08/2022 06:51

Brilliant recipes. Why are people such whiners?
Sitting there counting all the pots he uses. Did your OH rush off and time his 30 minute recipes. “Guess what it took 31 minutes and 22 seconds let’s write and complain!!”
The filo pie looked amazing - and fish pie uses loads of pans.
I use loads of his recipes or I’ve built on his ideas. The lamb looked delicious.

Hidingawaytoday · 23/08/2022 06:54

Oh I've not tried the one pan one but the 5-ingredents book! Yeah, it's great if all you want is the meat or one side. It should be 5 ingredients plus about 3 things that I don't mention in the listing that may or may not be in your cupboard, plus all the other things needed to make it an actual meal rather than just one part of a meal...

Would you say you need to add chips to them all to have a decent meal?

Yeah I'll give him that. That was a good idea.

Snowraingain · 23/08/2022 06:59

Turkey twizzlers as served by Greenwich schools were perfect spirals of turkey and pork wrapped in breadcrumbs. Perfect spirals of meat which were really tough to cut because they were so processed.
When he came to Greenwich to pilot the new food he make all the headteachers lunch. The food was lovely.
Why do people want their kids to eat crap?

PureBlackVoid · 23/08/2022 07:20

DS who is now in his 30’s has never forgiven him for banning his turkey twizzlers.

This is all I ever think about when it comes to Jamie Oliver. Why he had to come for the turkey twizzlers, I don’t know.

SouperNoodle · 22/08/2022 23:56

I have never liked him. I call him Jamie Oliveoil because he always says "just a splash of olive oil" and then proceeds to pour half a bottle on whatever mess he's cooking.

It's usually 'a kiss' of olive oil. My DC think it's hilarious.

Theluggage15 · 23/08/2022 07:22

Why the need to be so bitchy? His ‘fat tongue’? His kids ‘stuffing their privileged little faces’ None of his children seem to be overweight and why wouldn’t they eat the food he made?

Hidingawaytoday · 23/08/2022 07:26

chillipenguin · 23/08/2022 06:55

Huh? Of course not... but most of them need something else. Asian fishcakes for example, you at least need some extra veg, possibly rice/noodles. Cajun sweet potatoes - not exactly a meal.
