We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

I'm working on Monday but will probably catch snippets of the funeral. I shall raise a toast to the Queen and all of you later in the day!

Morning all! My cat would make a shit yard cat so someone else will need to provide one. She was a rescue who’d been found on the streets feeding her kittens and she’s completely turned her back on the outdoor life and “scavenging”. She likes a bed with a view and felix doubly delicious these days svp! 😉

Yesterday I managed to get more than half the bathroom done before I ran out of energy so I’m hoping I can get that finished today. I would’ve had more energy but it was a 40 mile round trip to get petrol and it completely knackered me out.

today I need to do as much of the bathroom as I can, do some smug line-drying and salvage anything not yet gone off from the fridge so I can cook it and freeze it in microwaveable portions for the lazy days.

TightDiamondShoes · 18/09/2022 08:11

PS @Solosunrise a beautifully edged muck heap is a thing of beauty! 😂

Skethylita · 18/09/2022 08:20

Morning all, it appears my to do list is growing rather than shrinking, with every task done, suddenly, another pops up.

Work tasks have been relentless and it was always clear I'd spend a significant amount of time working this long weekend, but I wasn't expecting it to be that much!

Ah well, on the other side of the coin I have started a mural one of on my walls and it's coming along nicely. I still have to get used to being unable to do much in the way of watery colours for backgrounds (it being all vertical that doesn't really work out well), but it is starting to take on a nice 3D appearance, which makes the room look much bigger than it actually is and I can feel my eyes relaxing as they're looking at the imagined distance.

TightDiamondShoes · 18/09/2022 08:24

@Skethylita i am in awe of your talent and we’ll all need to see the finished work!

I’m painting with one solid colour and even then go “over the lines” (skirting boards/ceiling/cistern 😂).

Unfortunately these bastard lists always grow which I think we need to embrace and put a positive spin on.

rather than seeing a list of never-ending drudgery of tasks, we can allow ourselves the freedom and luxury of asking ourselves “what do I WANT to do today?” … because frankly organising a skip is not an exciting and sexy job.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 18/09/2022 08:37

Now hang on a minute!! Organising a skip was frankly the most sexy thing that has happened to me in years!!! Grin Grin

I have definitely lost my mojo lately. I am still only halfway through the linen cupboard. I have been trying to organise a half term holiday for the family and they are all doing my head in with their competing demands. I am very tempted to just book what I want to do and they can take it or leave it. I am feeling very sullen and teenage about it all.

I have managed to persuade the family to go for a walk though today. I bribed DH and DS1 with a promise to afterwards go to 'the New Tesco' out of town as they LOVE supermarkets. DS2 is a lovely content little soul and is happy to just come along for the ride.

If I catch up on the ironing today I will be happy. Plus I need to pull out all my pots of herbs as have decided to re-purpose a small area of garden bed as a herb garden.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 18/09/2022 19:16

Well- I did not do the ironing, nor did i sort out my pots.

I did go for a walk with the family.

I also (because I was tired and could think of nothing else to do) filled up a carrier bag with rubbish to throw out. I went through our hall tables and the carrier bag included things like the Yellow Pages from 2012. Hmm

So I might as my 'while the kettle boils' task (Thanks @Solosunrise for the inspiration) fill up a carrier bag of rubbish each day.

TightDiamondShoes · 19/09/2022 08:05

Yeh yeh stop boasting about that sexy skip - we know it was YEARS in the planning and all your neighbours were jealous! 😉

I did a pretty good job on the bathroom with just a couple of corners I’ll have to get DS1 to do because he’s got the balance and weight to stand on the edge of the bath/cistern.

today I’ve got to reline a coat with “autistic friendly” fabric as eldest is going on a residential this week and the coat still has the shop nylon lining. I get it, I really do - and I sympathise, but it’s a fiddly job which I should’ve done months ago.

Peridot1 · 19/09/2022 09:59

Morning everyone. I seem to have missed the thread for a few days.

Missed all the horsey chat. I’ve never been on a horse. Live in a very horsey area now though and we back on to a field where we frequently see a neighbour ride her horse along our back fence. She has quite a few and competes I think. Beautiful animals.

I haven’t achieved much here. Did some weeding over the weekend.

Not planning much today other than watching the funeral. May get a large notebook and start the list of everything I know needs to be done in the house and garden. Also have a blouse to sew the seam on so could do that.

Solosunrise · 21/09/2022 08:09

What do I WANT to do today totally! I definitely prefer mucking out about in the house since I traded in a kleptomaniac husband for the current one. Who pulls his weight. I'm the one who gets excited about remembering to wash the shower curtain though.

@OrangePumpkinLobelia I am so with you on the skip being sexy (double edged there - getting things done and i can give @TightDiamondShoes diamond shoes a run for her money, having had a fling many years ago with a man who worked with such contraptions 😅)

OP posts:
Solosunrise · 21/09/2022 08:11

@Peridot1 I believe horses are best admired from afar. They are beautiful creatures but love to eats £20 notes for breakfast!

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 21/09/2022 08:39

Oh you don’t just leave them in a field of grass and give them the occasional polo mint and apple then? (Most of my horsey knowledge comes from Jilly Cooper books!) Grin

Not much achieved here last few days really. On Monday I did nothing but watch the funeral. Yesterday I did a bit more weeding - pots on the patio and removed two big petunia plants which were past their best. And realised the bloody deer I saw in the garden on Monday had a chomp at one of my roses which had a couple of nice blooms on.

I have some admin stuff to do today. And I think I’ll do my list of what needs doing.

Solosunrise · 21/09/2022 11:00

If only, @Peridot1 ! Some can be kept like that, but then you get others that need help keeping weight on, and others who can't have much grass or they get ill.... Hence hanging out with horses that have someone else who is financially responsible for them!

I love a good to-do list! Feels like the first achievement of the day to write one of those 😎
I have some smug meals in freezer and I intend to have A Turning Out Of A Drawer today. And possibly a bit of weeding 😇

I hope it is a good day for everyone 😘

RunningKatie · 21/09/2022 11:46

Morning (just!), I have been stripping wallpaper for days, and I keep walking past and noticing teeny spots that have been missed. So frustrating. Not sure how bad the plasterer will think it is, I shall find out tomorrow morning!

My in-laws have apparently told DH that we have too much stuff. Well, no shit Sherlock. Perhaps if they didn't waste money on piles of tat at Christmas/Birthdays there wouldn't be this issue 🤔I look forward to their minimalistic giving this year never going to happen

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 22/09/2022 12:06

Afternoon. Not much been going on around here lately as I have been manic at work. Things are quieter today. I might even think about ordering a skip again. Grin

Today I mean to hunt down a window cleaner.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Solosunrise · 23/09/2022 15:14

Irritated on your behalf @RunningKatie!
Fortunately stripping wallpaper is very therapeutic.

Did you find a window cleaner @OrangePumpkinLobelia ?
We are on the hunt for someone to sort out our guttering.

I am trying very hard to stay on track with keeping tidy with daily routines, plus yesterday I cleaned the bath. Today's project is dealing with the crap on my chest of drawer that I'm currently looking at.

Longer term project is to create space in the garden for a greenhouse.

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 23/09/2022 15:54

I would love a proper greenhouse, we have one of those temporary ones which looks a bit like a Scene of Crime tent. Works well for tomatoes though!

Plastering is part done, I need to go paint, carpet and light shopping. We also had an issue with the electrics, so whilst that was sorted, all the ceiling lights had to come down which meant they've had their annual clean.

TightDiamondShoes · 23/09/2022 18:14

@Peridot1 my experience with horses taught me that “horsey” men don’t look like RCB. They tend to come in the form of a 4’10” Irish jockey who won’t take no for an answer! 😂

anyway, I have a good excuse for being “shite” - was diagnosed with MS on weds which hasn’t come as a massive surprise

I don’t know what I’m going to do about work - I’m due back on Monday and my boss wants me to start going in to the office - I’m hanging on to my license by a thread as it is and the office is 50 miles away. That’s a lot of scope for fucking up.

I’m planning to get a proper solid polytunnel next year as the CSI murder scene ones can’t cope with Scottish winds and I’m far too ambitious for just tatties and kale. I embrace failure on a larger scale.

I smug roasted some veg today to make a smug Dahl tomorrow. And that is all I’ve done except read private eye today.

Aria999 · 23/09/2022 19:11

Monday: did nothing useful

Tuesday: did some paid work and some laundry folding

Wednesday: sliced finger open on broken glass and spent day in a&e

Thursday: sent off passport application, folded laundry, sorted out kids winter clothes, stored summer clothes for me and them, went to buy gas for the bbq, finished laundry folding. Booked summer camp for DS6.

Today: realized we should have reported property sale to HMRC when we sold it in March. Reported it. Booked COVID booster. Booked school snacks for DS6. Had lunch. And here we are.

Productivity definitely on the increase but exhausted now!

Skethylita · 24/09/2022 08:06

Another week done. Can't wait for payday next week - I have been pretty much out of money since mid-September; it's shocking how much everything has gone up by and I honestly wanted to cry last night when I realised I wouldn't get through the week without having to fill the car up again.

On a more productive note, I halved my work to-do list last week and the extra day really helped make a dent in it. So today it's chores and completing a work project with a deadline for Thursday that is realistically going to be needed by Monday. I have just been given a few more projects to add to the list - yay!

The mural is coming along nicely, but I have my kids here this week, so I will probably not do much. I've shown it to a few family members and colleagues who seemed quite impressed, and the kids both love it.

I will also need to finish another square for the patchwork blanket, do laundry x4 and visit the library again this weekend, so busy few days ahead. Now to get off mumsnet...

Peridot1 · 24/09/2022 09:21

Can’t say I’ve achieved much here at all this week. I have been out for a couple of appointments and a supermarket shop which made me realise I hadn’t been out of the house for almost two weeks other than walking the dog. I’m definitely turning into my mother. So need to nip that in the bud.

Booked another couple of trips to Dublin including a final one end of Oct to do the final clear out of the house. Sisters have all booked time off too. About to book a skip etc. And estate agent rings my sister yesterday to say things are moving quicker than anticipated for buyers so things might happen soon. Need to now manage their expectations somehow.

@TightDiamondShoes - I’m sorry about your diagnosis but I know it was sort of what you were expecting. Fingers crossed they will be able to control it well for you with the right medication.

Today’s task is to change my bed and do some more clothes sorting/clearing out in my room. It’s definitely time to switch out summer for winter clothes. I’ve also promised DH that I will clear fallen twigs/branches in part of the garden so he can mow.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 24/09/2022 10:25

Aaah @TightDiamondShoes I am sorry about your diganosis. I hope you van work something out with the office because a 50 mile trip sounds totally unworkable. Thanks

Quiet day planned here. I overdid the garden work yesterday and have a very sore and tight back. No joy on the window cleaner front. I am finding it almost impossible getting anything like quotes or people to call me back or otherwise display interest. The upholsterer is still a no-show; oven cleaners flat out said 'it is not worth my time to clean a SMEG' (apparently takes about 3 hours and he can clean 2 regular ovens in that time- other quotes were ridiculous); the carpenter was a no-show for a planned for visit and is not responding to calls and texts. It's bizarre. My local facebook page is littered with others saying the same thing so I don't think it is just me on some sort of trade blacklist!

I need to take it easy today. But I am pleased with what I achieved in the garden yesterday- lots of weeding, re-purposing a defunct garden bed into a bed for herbs, and I cleaned up and spray painted some garden furniture.

Peridot1 · 25/09/2022 15:29

That sounds really frustrating regarding not being able to get anyone @OrangePumpkinLobelia. We have a Smeg too. Didn’t have any issues getting it done last year and I’m about to try to book to get it done again. Hopefully anyway!

I have actually got a few bits done today and yesterday. Helped DH in the garden by picking up fallen twigs and branches so he could mow. It looks so much better! And it’s about my limit time wise in the garden. I find doing little jobs ok but any more and I start to feel overwhelmed.

Then I changed my bed and did some more clearing out in my bedroom/wardrobe. Put all my summer stuff away. Filled a couple more bags to go.

And today I did some more and I can actually now finally see a difference. I had so much stuff. Embarrassing amounts of stuff. Some never worn. I actually have four empty storage boxes now. The bedroom looks a mess at the moment as does the landing but I reckon a few more sessions and I will be almost there.

This thread and the previous one have helped me so much so thank you @Solosunrise. I used to try to do a big task in one go and hate it as I have a short attention span so I’d procrastinate forever. Doing a small amount often has really helped my mindset. And gotten results! My walk-in wardrobe was a total disgrace. And I hated it. And it felt overwhelming to tackle. It’s still a mess and a definite work in progress but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Solosunrise · 26/09/2022 06:18

Morning all! @TightDiamondShoes now that you've had a formal diagnosis, I very much hope that you will get what you need to get the symptoms back in the box where they belong. I'm sad for you that it has taken so long Flowers I hope you and your employer can come up with something that works in your favour. My very best wishes go to you!

OP posts:
OrangePumpkinLobelia · 26/09/2022 06:34

Morning all.

Still a bad back here so I am taking it fairly easy. Yesterday I contacted 3 further window cleaners for quotes (via their contact e-mails, I am not so brutal as to call on a Sunday!!) so we will see. I detailed every single window so hopefully can get a relatively accurate quote without dragging people out.

I got some ironing done though in front of a film so that was good. (Then saw that DS1 had written in his language homework 'my mum is aged 49 and likes to watch telly'. Hmm Grin Hmm I do like other things too DS!!).

Thankfully wfh today so can do alot of that on the sofa with cushions.

Off now to make porridge for breakfast so hope everyone has a lovely day. :)
