Daily Project - Round Two!

We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Morning all.

I am inspired @Solosunrise! Will book someone to come clean the oven. Grin

Yesterday I did lots of washing. Changed DS’s bed and did his washing and washed my bedding from the day before. No extra tasks done.

I am off to Dublin today for a week so this weeks jobs will all be related to clearing out Dad’s house again.

DS made it back from Belgium safely in the early hours. Although quite sunburned.

Solosunrise · 30/08/2022 06:05

@Peridot1 how I'd love to get someone in to clean my oven 😂Mine will never be spotless because I can't bring myself to use oven cleaner- has anyone ever read the warnings on those things?! 😱
I put a pan of water in the oven and crank the temperature up to high for half an hour, and then just wipe out whatever has softened up enough for me to do so. And vow never to cook anything in there without a lid on in future, as I watch the numbers go up on the smart meter 😩 In fact I'm threatening never to cook a thing again as it seems to use more energy than anything else in the house, even just with a casserole in there last night!
Todays project is to dust off my slow cooker I think!

Pleased your son is safely home @Peridot1 and i hope your Dublin trip goes smoothly.

My young folks are only here for a few more days. It's flown by! It's been lovely to have everyone together 💕 I will miss them and be pleased to have the peace back in equal measure!

Hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend 😀

Took 3 bags of outgrown clothes to kid2kid.

Started to look in Home Depot for a new vanity unit but had to stop so as to go get DS6 early from his first day of school due to bad behavior 🤦‍♀️😳

Oh no! Is he unsettled by the move? Nothing is straightforward with kids is it? Flowers
I'm at the other end with elderly mother who's taken to doing some unexpected things. I did have a few years of peace between awkward teens and ailing parents though.

Today I intend to clean out and vacuum my car. I'd love to take it to the car wash but I think that would be socially unacceptable during a hosepipe ban, even though they are open (or should i support the small business in difficult time for them?) At minimum I must wash my windscreens and number plates.

Hope you are all well. All go with kids back to school now or imminently! Thinking of you @BuenoSucia hope you're ok!

That sounds stressful @Aria999. Hope he is ok.

I know what you mean about the car washing @Solosunrise. It’s a conundrum!

Hello from Dublin.

Different jobs here but still clearing out. Washed some of Dad’s old jackets/coats yesterday and have some more in the machine this morning. He never threw anything away but didn’t seem to realise you could wash coats so there are some grubby but perfectly wearable things. Once they are all washed and dried I will drop off at charity clothes box nearby.

There are also some smallish electrical items that I can take to recycling.

I think my aim today is to clear the wardrobe in the boxroom just leaving items that I can’t get rid of easily and will go in a skip when we do the final clear out. That will be that room ticked off the list.

BuenoSucia · 31/08/2022 08:50

And that is EXACTLY why I don’t clean my oven! 😂 as you say… chemicals. 🙏

i had a brief period of respite yesterday morning when I felt I could tackle the world - but quickly back on my knees and back to hospital tomorrow. Amma bored - just want shit hot magic pills!

I did however arrange for someone to come in and fit the Sheila maid and the boiler jacket.

@Aria999 that sounds erm… “character building” - for you natch! 😉

@Peridot1 it sounds like you’re very busy but you’re making such enormous progress with all of it. I have a soft spot for Dublin - had a 20 year on-off affair with a bloke there. Bunked off work and was sat at the airport waiting to come home… looked across the passenger lounge and locked eyes with one of my colleagues. 😳 he didn’t grass me up, but I did have to spend an uncomfortable length of time admiring all his photos of his pet rabbits.

hewouldwouldnthe · 31/08/2022 09:03

Such a good idea to do something like this. I am always caught up in the massive number of things that need doing, but end up doing nothing because of the overwhelming inertia that sets in. I have pretty much most rooms to decorate (quick emulsion/freshen up), clothes for the girls I am making, work that needs completing at home (WFH), garden to tidy up, fence panels need painting, decluttering, kids school stuff to organise, plus the endless 'normal' stuff like cooking and cleaning. My hobby will restart soon when kids go back to school so need to squeeze that in too.

Today, garden tidy, clean and paint skirting boards in kitchen and rub down radiator to paint. Evening I'll work on Work project on PC.

hewouldwouldnthe · 31/08/2022 09:04

Oh gosh yes, my car is still full of sand and body boards! Another for the list

BuenoSucia · 31/08/2022 09:31

My eldest has his sailing lesson today - this meant he was trying on his wetsuit and board boots in the living room last night. I’d like to say it’s just designer v expensive shimmery carpet. But it’s not. It’s sand.

Aria999 · 31/08/2022 14:05

Thanks all, same school as last year but new teacher, new grade and after a ridiculously long summer break (8th June to 30th August, crazy).

Sand is a pain @BuenoSucia hope it comes out ok! I find it a bit like Christmas tree needles, every time you think you got it all, you find some more.

Today's jobs, finish unpacking the suitcases and tidy at least some of the house.

Solosunrise · 02/09/2022 08:25

Morning all! My folks have left. It flew by! Feels very quiet! So today is settling back to normality and making a start on putting the house back together (lots of things moved to make their room fit for purpose)
Meeting my girls for coffee later as we all feel slightly bereft, so we all took the day off. Son should be landing while were out, so we'll look forward to the landed safely message 🤞
Feels a bit like the end of the school holidays used to, which is apt given the time of year.

Maidin mhaith go leir! (Irish for good morning all!)

I’m still in Dublin. Chipping away at the clearing out. Washed all Dad’s jackets and coats and they are ready to go to charity. The main bin was collected this morning so I filled that with lots of random crap. Sadly lots of plastic in the form of cassette tapes and video tapes but I’d no other way to get rid of them. Small electric items will go to recycling today or on Monday. And my sister is coming this morning and we will go through the rest of Dad’s clothes.

The big news is that we accepted an offer on the house yesterday. We had been getting a bit worried as the market has definitely slowed and we hadn’t had any other serious offers but a couple viewed on Wednesday and made an asking price offer within 15 minutes! So I definitely mixed emotions about that.

@Solosunrise im sure it was hard to say goodbye to your DS and his fiancée but it sounds like you had a lovely time together. And I know just what you mean about it feeling like the end of the school holidays.

Aria999 · 02/09/2022 14:20

@Peridot1 good news about the house offer! I understand what you mean about mixed feelings but if you're going to sell it, better for it to be easy and quick. It took us over a year to sell our flat in Oxford and cost us a fortune in council tax and service charge while it was sitting empty.

I have had a fairly productive couple of days (booked dd2 second COVID shot, arranged someone to come and fix the cooker, opened about half the accumulated mail from being away all summer, spoke to my client about a little piece of work she has for me, and did an afternoon of emailing for the school parent association).

I am currently looking at the chaos that is our house and hanging out on Mumsnet instead of doing something about it. Feels so never ending!

LateSummerLobelia · 03/09/2022 07:25

Good morning! Sorry about my radio silence. I have been away a couple of days- last minute city break deal so I took the Dcs. I have been on MN but had no projects to report!

Hope everyone is well. :)

I got back yesterday to see that DH had put up a mirror we have had lying around for at least 7 years and put up a freshly framed drawing that I had mentioned in passing I wanted to go in the hallway. So there were achievements but not made by me! I am particularly thrilled with the mirror. I had said I thought we might sell it (art deco-esque, gilt) but it is a peculiar shape and actually he has placed it in our sitting room opposite a painting that has a similar sort of shapes in it (hard to explain) so it looks like they were meant to be together! So i am very impressed at his vision (I am not so great at things like that).

Today I shall wash clothes and get ready for the school year to begin.

I understand the mixed feelings about your dad's house. Thanks

Hope you are feeling better @BuenoSucia Thanks

Glad you had a lovely time with your DS and his partner @Solosunrise so hard to see them leave. Thanks

LateSummerLobelia · 03/09/2022 07:26

oooh @Aria999 thanks for the second covid shot reminder! I'll book my boys in today. They are also due.

LateSummerLobelia · 03/09/2022 07:28

That was to @Peridot1 Thanks sorry, typing quite fast.

Footle · 03/09/2022 08:03

@BuenoSucia , I'm new to the thread. Your post about the orcas has given me great pleasure. Get well soon.

Skethylita · 03/09/2022 08:19

Oooh, I like a good being productive thread.

Yesterday I finished another square for my child's knitted patchwork blanket, made 3 more Christmas cards and emptied another cardboard box from the house move (only 4 more to go!); the latter being one of those that most people give up on and just store somewhere out of sight 😂

Today I'll walk to a drop off point for a faulty product return to Amazon (they do all the packing and shipping for free), clean my car ready for work and do some weeding in the garden. I'm sure I can squeeze in another square, too.

Peridot1 · 03/09/2022 08:49

@BuenoSucia - meant to reply to your post about your Dublin airport story - very funny! Hope you are starting to feel better too.

@LateSummerLobelia - Well done your DH. I have a mirror I want DH to put up but apparently it’s complicated so I’ve been waiting 18 months!

@Skethylita - welcome. It’s a nice productive thread.

Got quite a bit done yesterday with my sister. Cleared out the top of a wardrobe. Most of it just rubbish but there was a suitcase of clothes. Including a scarf I wore back in 1981/82.

We took 4 bags of clothes to the clothes recycling, two bags of books and a bag of cds to the charity shop and a load of electrical items and cables to the recycling centre. Oh and a bag of hats to the charity shop.

I’m concentrating on getting the paperwork for the house sale together this morning plus washing a few blankets I found. Then I’m going to stay with a sister overnight.

have a good day everyone.

BuenoSucia · 03/09/2022 08:57

@Peridot1 excuse my ignorance 😳 - do you speak Gaelic as standard in Dublin? Or is it mandatory school stuff? My bit of Scotland has never spoken Gaelic even though many would assume we did.

@Footle 😁 we need to remember that there are many gems in (and circling) our isles.

my eyes must be getting better because today when I came downstairs I could not only see the sea (nae fucking orcas natch), but also noticed what a horrendous job I did cleaning the windows last month. 😳

kids are off to an agricultural show today, y’know “best sheep”, “best chicken” type stuff. All their friends will be there and they’ll eat their body weight in bbq and candy floss.

I need to strip my bed which is a tiny job in the big scheme of things but has been too much for me. MN would be having the vapours as the sheets have been on 5 weeks. 🤯

I have some smug batch cooking to do, smug drying - managed to convince my youngest to sort out his floordrobe “how is it possible you’ve been back to school for 2 weeks but have only presented one jumper to be washed?”

hope you all have a lovely day.

LateSummerLobelia · 03/09/2022 09:03

floordrobe! Love it.

So pleased your eyes are getting better @BuenoSucia

so lovely to see you @Skethylita

@Footle we apparently have basking sharks near us (south). I am very excited about this and wish to go out in a canoe. My family think I am nuts (for amny... many.. reasons) but I think they are not too scary or big? (Not sure).

I need to do some smug cooking. I have a tin of peaches and a box of vanilla cake and I plan to mix the two at some point. DS1 is a fruit refuser but he does like this (and thankfully the peaches all sink and he has never enquired as to why he gets only the top half of any given cake. I am hopeful the syrup imparts peach juicy goodness to the cake).

BuenoSucia · 03/09/2022 09:19

@LateSummerLobelia basking sharks are pretty rubbish as sharks go. They eat plankton and are filter feeders, so even if they get big - they’re not going to chew your leg off. Even the orcas are gentle with people swimming and on canoes here. Lion’s mane jellyfish will fuck you up though - and they won’t even care! 😂

BuenoSucia · 03/09/2022 09:20

Swim face first into a lion’s mane and it’s like getting the entire towie cast Botox quantity in one go.

Oh I would so love to see one.

I was very lucky in my early 20s to do a Great Barrier Reef snorkelling tour. It remains the highlight of my life. My particular favourite moment was just sitting in the water as a sea snake swam past giving me a gentle side eye. I'll never forget it.

BuenoSucia · 03/09/2022 09:56

I was stunned by the giant clams - I’d thought they were mythical creatures, but they’re real! 😳 I’d have fucking died had I seen a snake though.
