We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Morning all on another wild and wet morning. Yesterday was lovely but today is grim.

welcome back @DressingForRevenge and @Alltheclouds - liking the new names. I keep thinking I should name change at some stage but never get around to it.

@Alltheclouds - DH had the bug over Christmas and is still feeling the effects as are a few others we know. Mainly tiredness.

House sale was delayed but will hopefully complete next week. We are not actually affected really as it’s empty and ready for the buyers. But hopefully they will move in this week sometime. It’s emotional though. Hate to think it’s not ours anymore.

I am not feeling 100% last day or so so taking it easy. Have sent DH out to Tesco for a few bits. An afternoon on the sofa with a book is my plan for the day.

Aria999 · 14/01/2023 22:15

@Peridot1 nooo, I can't keep up with the existing name changes. I may need to make a spreadsheet!

Alltheclouds · 15/01/2023 06:17

Morning! Sorry about the name changes @Aria999 😳 Love the spreadsheet comment 😂

@Peridot1 I hope your afternoon on the sofa and some decent snacks made you feel better. Big hugs. This must be a very emotional time Brew Cake Flowers

My covid jab made me so tired. Functioned fairly robotically at work in the morning, then sat down and fell asleep for an hour when I got home. Had promised to meet a friend in the afternoon which was lovely but we made it briefer than usual, then I took to me bed at 5.30pm. Flat out and didn't surface until 12hours later and woke just before the alarm! Feeling more refreshed thankfully and sore arm doesn't seem to require paracetamol this morning. Needed doing though. @Peridot1 you got me going ahead and booking it when umpteen nhs texts didn't so thanks again!

We're on the last page, people! Any suggestions for a name for the next one? Creativity isn't my stong suit. Any volunteers to start next one? (I started the last ones but it was off the back of the lovely Lobelia's original thread a couple of years ago) Still makes me grin that I talked to myself for a while till people joined in...and now look at us ☺

Expecting flooded roads round here this morning! Local river had burst it's banks onto the fields yesterday.

Happy Sunday to you all

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/01/2023 06:32

@Alltheclouds I hope you're not going to be affected by flooding! 🙀
No ideas, I'm afraid re new name. No creativity from my very tired brain.... 🥱
I'm about to take a bath and get into bed. Havoc woke me 3x last night. Managed a nap this afternoon, but it wasn't enough.
Re chores: cleaned the fridge out, took out garbage. Best I could do today.
Big plans for tomorrow though! 🧹🧽
Night, night. 😴

DressingForRevenge · 15/01/2023 09:20

@Alltheclouds a horth courth? Pray tell! Fwiw, the university of Edinburgh does a few freebie ones which are interesting. I did one on nutrition and learned some new stuff - which then imo contradicted their own lessons 😉 - I’m a bit woo vs “old school” in terms of feeding. I embrace genuinely ad-lib hay and straights.

@Peridot1 I hope you can draw a line under the house this week and close that rather sad chapter. I’m glad the Walsh sisters are still in town though so you’re not cutting all ties as it were.

@petalpower Oooh seed buying. Potentially the BEST bit of the entire process! I’m trying to hold off buying for a bit because I’m tempted to plant too early. I’ve still got another 4 months of shite ahead of me. I want to get a v sturdy poly tunnel put up using moulded plastic sheets rather than polythene, but the tradesmen are all booked up from here to eternity.

Yesterday ended up being quite a long one. Youngest faffed in town and we missed the ferry home by about 3 minutes - and as I’m not a stunt driver I choose NOT to speed off the jetty to land on the closing doors. So we had to wait 2 hours for the next one - so in the end 7.5 hours door to door. And THAT is why I can only be arsed with the palava every other month!

Today I’m going to try and sort my crafts a bit so I can reclaim the dining table.

Aria999 · 15/01/2023 12:26

OMG @DressingForRevenge I bet youngest DC was unpopular. Hopefully a teachable moment re faffing.

@Alltheclouds goodness you clearly needed rest! Hope you feel better for it. In a bizarre way I quite like it when that happens to me - a kind of feeling that I must have really needed sleep and now I have had it so things will be better afterwards!

Hope they don't mess you around too much @Peridot1 , not what you need in the circumstances.

Hope you get some well earned sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc .

Work has dried up. I am trying to decide whether to drop DD2 daycare to 2 days to save money or try harder to get some temp jobs (as opposed to freelance). The daycare doesn't offer quite enough hours to get a proper job at the moment but they are hoping to extend it in February.

Unfortunately I have been summoned for jury service in February so I can't get on and look right away. Terrible timing but I dare not postpone it as we are away in March and in the summer and they don't let you postpone indefinitely. I also have no idea how to manage child care if I do have to be on a jury as daycare's hours are (again) not quite long enough.

Still haven't made the soup. I did make a bolognese sauce last night which will help get me through until DH returns on Tuesday night.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/01/2023 21:55

Still not getting much sleep, ugh. 😢
I did manage to get some tasks done today: vacuumed, washed out the vacuum filters, 4 loads laundry including bed linens and cleaned the fridge out. Took the shelves out and washed it all. Then made a nice lunch and am ready for Havoc to wake up from nap. Baby's lunch is ready and waiting. 😀

Alltheclouds · 16/01/2023 08:57

Straightness Training @DressingForRevenge Been messing about with it for a while and now looking into being an instructor.

You day off the island 🤯 How frustrating

@Aria999 decisions decisions! I hope you work something out! And I hope you get short and sweet jury service case. Not a long and boring fraud one... .... .....

Morning @Mumtobabyhavoc though hopefully you're currently asleep. Hope Havoc sleeps through this time.

Jobs today: bathroom. And bank a couple of cheques. A very retro errand but my phone app won't play.

Alltheclouds · 16/01/2023 09:40

We have floods in some of my area and snow at the other. Mad British weather!!

Peridot1 · 16/01/2023 10:08

Morning all.

Interesting weather @Alltheclouds! We had a landslide on the train line near us last night so no trains for the foreseeable apparently. It was due to all the rain.

How frustrating about your missed ferry @DressingForRevenge. I hope DC was suitably contrite.

That all sounds complicated @Aria999. Adding jury service in just adds to it! Here are DH and I sitting at home all day and we have never been called. Well I was once but it was just as we were moving to Thailand so they let me off!

such a hard stage @Mumtobabyhavoc. Hope you get some sleep.

As we still haven’t put the Christmas decorations boxes up into the attic that is the plan for today. There are also some things that need to go into the garage. A new lamp to unpack and put together. Old lamp to move - it’s big and heavy. And I am going to order curtains and maybe a new rug for the living area. And I need to do general washing and change a bed. I also started sorting through my underwear drawer yesterday. Have loads of bras I am not sure fit properly so need to figure that out. I have lost almost three stone since last January so I think I might need some new ones!

Alltheclouds · 16/01/2023 10:40

Oh my goodness landslides @Peridot1 😲 Way to go on the 3 stone! There's a charity that can take 'gently used' bras if it's any interest to you. Here's the link www.smallsforall.org/ I have sent stuff previously.

Peridot1 · 16/01/2023 11:48

Thanks @Alltheclouds. That’s perfect. I used to go to a gym that had a box in reception for collecting bras but don’t live there anymore so was wondering what to do with them.

Aria999 · 16/01/2023 12:21

That's some impressive weight loss @Peridot1 ! Definitely worth celebrating with some new bras.

We have crazy weather here too @Alltheclouds . A few days ago it was about 12 degrees, you could manage without a coat, then the next day it snowed. We sometimes have sunbathing weather and snow within a week of each other. I think the different weather fronts meet over the hills and get scrambled up.

petalpower · 16/01/2023 17:37

Hello to all and well done for all your achievements.
I’m stuck back in sandwich generation land at the moment with ill parents and struggling children (big grown up ones). All such a worry. Managed to change the bulb in the bathroom light and catch up on a bit of admin today and caught with old friends (antenatal group ones from 23 years ago!) for a nice lunch.

RunningKatie · 16/01/2023 17:54

Evening all, I thought I was all caught up but took a bit of a break when MN whipped itself up over a book.
I was doing the January decluttering too but that has also gone by the wayside. Must try harder.
Super chilly here, not proper North chilly but -1 nonetheless. We did have snow flurries earlier too.

You are welcome. It seems a lovely charity!

I have hidden those particular boards/threads because it got too much for me seeing it in active....
Welcome back 💐

Alltheclouds · 17/01/2023 06:21

Hello @petalpower from those same sandwichy trenches 💕 I'm off to work now but just to say, 'solidarity, sister' 💐

SnowAndIceLobelia · 17/01/2023 07:09

Morning all- just dropping in to say ho and will be back after the school run. Hope everyone has a good day!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 17/01/2023 07:09

*one of those words was meant to be 'Hi'.

Peridot1 · 17/01/2023 08:50

Sounds stressful @petalpower. Hope all settles down.

I know what you mean @RunningKatie. I do wonder how much of the frenzy was deliberately whipped up by outside sources. I started the January declutter too but decided it was a bit too generalised for me at this point. Especially as we still hadn’t put away the Christmas stuff so house was looking a mess anyway! Thanks to this thread I have gotten rid of a lot of clutter and now need to be a bit more targetted.

Temperatures dropped here significantly yesterday and there was loads of black ice on the roads last night and lots of accidents locally. Add that to the no trains issue for the foreseeable until they fix the landslide on the train line and I think I’ll just stay home!

All the Christmas boxes went into the loft yesterday! Hallelujah! And this morning DH moved some things into the garage so the hallway looks a bit better.

Today’s tasks are to go to the post office to post off a couple of returns parcels, take a box of bottles to the bottle bank, take a few things to the charity shop, change a bed (which was supposed to happen yesterday), try on some clothes I ordered which arrived yesterday. Might also attempt to fold up the deflated blow up bed and put it away somewhere. I suppose it should have gone in the loft.

have a good day all.

DressingForRevenge · 17/01/2023 08:52

Well done @Peridot1 🙏 - I’m trying to get a handle on things. I spent nearly 2 years in “bralette” things as they grow with you - but fuck me are they unflattering if you’ve ACTUAL breasts - so I had to go out and buy a boulder holder.

I managed to get my weekend tasks done but of course the universe is having none of it and schools are now closed for a second day due to snow. 🙄

feeling for all of you sandwich people - it must be very hard.

Today if I get on top of the recycling it’ll be a win. Pathetic!

DressingForRevenge · 17/01/2023 08:53

PS I keep seeing @SnowAndIceLobelia making snarky comments on the “bad boards” and I’m nodding my head very much in agreement and laughing.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 17/01/2023 10:11

snarky?! I get very very cross. Grin

I really love spying members of our thread on other posts as well. Smile

SnowAndIceLobelia · 17/01/2023 10:12

Although I have been WAY too invested with all the threads about a certain newly-released book and really need to find something more useful to spend my time on. Grin
