Daily Project - Round Two!

Solosunrise · 22/08/2022 13:31

We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

What a lovely thread this is, hope it’s ok if I join in too?

I have lots of little systems in place around the house which help me a lot but I often find myself getting really overwhelmed especially when the house is untidy. I often find it quite challenging just to do the daily chores and my lovely DP pulls his weight but I feel like we rarely scratch the surface and a deep clean and thorough sort out is now required everywhere.

So I have a plan!

If I split my house into 11 sections (including loft, front garden & back garden) and concentrate on a section each week. The house will be spick and span and clutter free with all the wee odd jobs I keep putting off done by the 2nd week in December (and ready to be messed up again at Christmas!). This is really quite doable for me if I start now.

Todays project is to go around each room and write up everything that needs to be sorted / fixed / moved / bought / binned / cleaned. I’m actually quite excited about this!

Hello @outoftimeagain and welcome! Lists are wonderful beasts - actioning them is um… another task entirely! 😳

thank you everyone for your kind words. I’ve bottled going back to work today and am going to phone the GP shortly. I hadn’t thought about it until the weekend but my office is the exact opposite of “disability friendly” - think very old building with very tall steps and the ladies down 2 flights… naturally my desk is on the top floor. 😂

urgh, moving through acceptance to anger - which I think is the wrong order but autonomy baby!

i am in AWE (jealousy) of walk-in wardrobes… although I did consider the possibility that if I removed everything from hangers that I can’t fit into I’d have a “working” wardrobe…

@Peridot1 im glad the house is moving - it’s been such a long slog for you to get it all organised.

today I need to do 3 small pieces of admin - including correspondence with SSE which I’ve been ignoring because of the blood/stone scenario.

then I need to make serious waves on re-lining that coat as the weather is seriously turning here - hello Atlantic!

house wise the robot hoover is going to have to earn his keep today and I might order some paint for the kitchen as I was so pleased with the bathroom result.

Hello. I got an invite from a lovely MNetter to this thread (I had started my own thread about my own veeeeeeeery messy house and how I feel like I'm losing the battle every day!)

Anyway...right...today I'm going to find the time to clean the disgusting garden toys (a pirate ship that used to be white and is now brown) and put them away in the garage.

Welcome @outoftimeagain and @BingBingGoAway - this is a lovely thread. Good luck with it all - little jobs add up to big results in the end! It all becomes very satisfying.

Gosh it's nippy out, I didn't take a coat on the school run. 20 mins of brisk walking, and I'm so cold now.
@TightDiamondShoes - I'm sorry to hear your diagnosis, hopefully knowing what it is means your work will be supportive. A 50 mile commute is no fun, especially going into Autumn/Winter.
We've had a busy weekend, the plastering is done and I've managed to get dc1 a pair of shoes. Yesterday we did some furniture rearranging to make my work space more professional feeling. I hate wfh, but have no alternative unless I get a new job.

It’s definitely colder @RunningKatie! definitely felt it this morning walking the dog.

No bedroom action here today for me Grin Wink. In other words I haven’t done any more sorting in the bedroom. DH and I tackled a corner cupboard in the utility room. Now much better use of space as cleared some things we never use to go to charity and boxed up an extra set of crockery to store in the garage. Now all the baking stuff is in one place plus trays and random things we don’t use often. Moving things into the utility room cupboard has freed up some space in kitchen cupboards too.

DH has also been sorting and tidying in the study which is looking much better.

Colder here as well. The house is at 18 degrees but we are resisting putting on the central heating.

Today I got up to date with the clothes washing! Tomorrow I will iron. And get back to the linen cupboard which is very nearly done.

I have been following this thread but dropped off the previous one due to going into hospital for 6 weeks and then having a baby! would be great to rejoin! Today I did the towels and bath mat wash and made a list of each ‘extra’ wash I need to put on to keep on top of it. Need to do two daily loads here to keep on top of baby, preschooler, all my clothes being covered in breast milk despite my best efforts! Also the dog…

Have a big project to sort papers out in the study but struggling to do it with a little one so does not want to be put down.

Hello everyone! Big welcome to new joiners BrewCake
@Peridot1 you are welcome. I stole the idea from the lovely @OrangePumpkinLobelia from last year so I won't take all the credit 😇

I am delighted that so many of us are finding it helpful. I too used to look at what needed to be done and get overwhelmed, and I have become much better at doing odd jobs instead of letting things pile up.

Congratulations on your little one @Passanotherjaffacake. I hope you're getting some sleep.

Today I'm going to sneak in a pre-price hike washing machine maintenance wash as I've no laundry to do. And I am going to give it a clean. I must pick up pet meds from the vet too.

Have a lovely day everyone! 😘

So many amazing plans going on and actions being taken. I second the request for mural pictures- my auto carrot suggested moral paintings… 🤔

this morning I’ve emptied the Amazon box that’s been sat on the kitchen floor since Friday which no other fucker has dealt with once they’d picked out all the “good” stuff. Apparently I’m the only one who knows where lentils go.

I have to go to the next town to pick up some bits and pick up a renewed sick line hurrah! My manager sent me a lovely email yesterday so all good on that front.

I also got the sulky tweenager to pick out some fabric he likes so I can crack on with that.

one household admin task to do today and if I’m feeling brave I’m going to remove stuff from the wardrobe I can’t fit into so that I stop hanging the stuff I DO fit into over the end of the bed/chairs/drawers/ottoman/back of door.

We currently have glorious sunshine, so I am off to the library and to do all the life admin tasks that no-one notices till they aren't done.
I was due to be on a conference call today but that has been postponed so I'm quite content. Might buy a bunch of flowers to celebrate.

@Solosunrise thank you, it didn't hurt as much as you would think actually but it was scary. So much blood I had two tries to even get a plaster to stick to it. Couldn't really see much through the blood but what I could see was alarming! It seems ok now though, gradually healing with stitches and not bothering me too much.

Today I have been working but now I must must must do uk tax return.

Morning all.

yes please to pics of the mural. Sounds amazing.

good news on the sick cert @TightDiamondShoes. Hopefully that will give you some space to figure stuff out.

I'm still plodding along at my bedroom. Sorted out all my sports wear again yesterday. Did it a few months ago but then found another box full. So cleared some things out and have sorted out the rest. Also sorted out jumpers and socks.

DH cleared the charity pile from the garage into the car and added in the stuff we cleared out of the kitchen/utility room. So my task today is to get rid of all of that plus my bags of clothes.

@Aria999 that sounds good and gory, although I’m very glad to hear you’re on the mend. My fantasy career is “battlefield medic” and it always brings to mind the film Black Hawk Down where the fella’s femoral vein is severed, but every time they get hold of the slippery little fucker it gets away from them.

I sorted my wardrobe yesterday and took out all the “too small” stuff. There was a shocking amount which led to another task - aka - where the fuck do I store all this stuff? I ended up shoving it all under the bed in a laundry bag…

today I really need to crack on with that coat as we’ve got a bastard of a storm coming in at the weekend.

Ha! I wish I were clever enough to make a coat - nothing so glamorous! My eldest has sensory issues which means when we EVENTUALLY find a winter coat he can tolerate touching the outside of… I have to cut out the always bastarding nylon inner and sew something soft in. Doesn’t seem to matter how many £££ you drop - they always line the sleeves with cheap crap.

good job on the tax return - I’m such an avoidant I handed the whole lot over to my accountant. She ENJOYS speaking to hmrc. 🤷‍♀️

Hi all. :)

@Aria999 ouch on the injury! You have also reminded me I need to sort out my covid vax. I sorted out the rest of the family but not mine yet. (Forgot!)

I thought i had achieved nothing today as was sent to the Big Smoke for an external meeting, but reviewing I managed to (while on the train) sort out a cattery for our half term holiday; sorted out a consultant appointment for DS1; sorted out absence from school for DS1; and rsvped to a fundraiser. Now I am MNetting and drinking a mini bottle of wine on the way home. My back is now totally fine. Just in time for me to do some more gardening on Friday.....

Hope everyone is having a lovely evening. Thanks

@BingBingGoAway and @outoftimeagain just checking in- how are you both doing?

Report
Aria999 · 28/09/2022 19:16

@TightDiamondShoes ah I see. Makes sense! Not sure I could re-line a coat either tbh!

Unfortunately I am an accountant (though definitely not a tax expert) and not even working full time at the moment so I have No Excuses. Still this should be the last year we have UK tax.

I already managed to fob the US tax return off on DH on the grounds that he is quite good at very long, complicated forms whereas I start to skim them after page 2 (this is fatal).

@OrangePumpkinLobelia that sounds insanely productive. Mini bottle of wine well deserved!

So good to see we're all getting on with stuff. And respect @TightDiamondShoes ; I can sew a bit, but not sure I could re-line a coat just yet.

My work has absolutely swallowed up my time this week, so I haven't done much besides trying to keep on top of paperwork, but this weekend should at least enable me to carve a bit of time out for more painting.

This is totally outing if anyone knows me, but I'll attach a picture of progress so far. The image is shitty quality and as I say, I'm less than 10h total into what will easily be 100h, but here's progress so far. It's in my hallway as you enter from the stairs, so adds depth.
