We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

Morning all from a very quiet house. Lovely to have them here but really appreciate the quiet when they’ve gone. My five year old nephew is full on. Adorable and very funny but extremely full on.

Good luck today @RunningKatie. Always nerve wracking starting a new job.

Ouch @petalpower. Hope it heals quickly. I have a similar list of jobs - a desperately needed bottle bank run, a couple of things to pack up to return and lots of post visitor washing.

We are also going to do an inventory of the freezers and fridge and make a menu plan based around the contents. DH is obsessed with a weekly supermarket delivery and has one booked for tomorrow. He will end up ordering loads of stuff we don’t need. As usual.

Other than that is going to be a quiet day here today.

SpiritOfEdna · 03/01/2023 11:51

Morning all. Good luck with day 1 in your new job @RunningKatie

I am back at work today and had a gym session before that (polishes halo). The poor dog is wondering why she hasn't had a walk yet today; she's had the luxury of a long walk by now the last couple of weeks.

My little mini projects this year will be related to NY resolutions

When I find time today I need to:

  • find a home for a print I framed yesterday
  • find a collection of simple 'things' for my art course - tutor uses keys and clothes line pegs I am sure I can find something similar
  • set up laptop/external monitor with HDMI cable so I can cast my phone onto it - trying to do a yoga video from my phone was useless.
  • find the machete to chop the enormous xmas tree down so I can get it in the car for recycling.
  • transfer a CC balance so am down to 2 CC.

That might be sufficient for today Smile

Have a good day all.

petalpower · 03/01/2023 15:06

Oh my goodness a machete @SpiritOfEdna ? Mind your fingers!
Being very productive today. Parents in law still here but have done lots of little jobs. Nothing very exciting. Admin/paperwork, posted three parcels (wrongly sized Christmas present clothes for son and daughter), sorted out the fridge, encouraged PIL to eat up lots of leftovers, ordered a new collar for the dog (his inexplicably disappeared during a walk with DH) and a swimming costume and rash vest for me (swimming pool seems to have been turned down several degrees), renewed Royal Mail redirect for care home auntie, ordered prescription, bought new steri strips for my arched up thumb etc. Now working up to second dog walk of the day but it’s very rainy.
How was your first day @RunningKatie ?
Hope you’ve enjoyed your quiet day @Peridot1 .

RunningKatie · 03/01/2023 22:05

Thank you lovelies, first day has gone well (I hope). So many new faces, the office is cold so bobble hats worn indoors!
Still feels a bit surreal, normally I don't work Tuesdays, so I've got to remember next week to work!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 04/01/2023 06:39

Morning all! Dreary rainy day where I am.

Glad the first day went well @RunningKatie ! Hope you find some great supportive colleagues and really enjoy your new role!

have a lovely day everyone. Thanks

Peridot1 · 04/01/2023 08:00

Morning all. The day has not started well as I lost my Wordle streak. Am sulking.

Glad your day went well @RunningKatie but shocked at office so cold you have to wear hats. That doesn’t sound good.

Do your council not collect Christmas trees @SpiritOfEdna? Ours do as do the local scouts.

Well done on your jobs @petalpower. I think lots of swimming pools have lowered their temperature. I was thinking of starting aquafit but the idea of a cold pool really puts me off! (Not that it takes much!)

My quiet day was much appreciated yesterday. I did some washing and loaded and unloaded the dishwasher a couple of times but that was about it. Menu planned for this week but didn’t do the freezer inventory and DH did the supermarket order which arrives today. Need to get back to normal today. Cleaners are in today so a quick tidy around needed. Two clothing items to pack up for returns. Put the pile of books I got for Christmas away somewhere. Call a neighbour about some garden advice. Pack away blow up bed. Get rid of some stuff on landing. Start the job of taking down the Christmas decorations - will bring the boxes in from the garage this afternoon. That might be enough!

BadShepherd · 04/01/2023 08:09

Oh @Peridot1 😔. I’m going to light a candle to mark my respect for your streak. I’m so sorry this had to happen to you on such a dreich January day.

@RunningKatie I hope your colleagues prove themselves to be good eggs and that you actually remember to go in next tues! Well done for surviving your first day and I hope you’d not spent too long in your hair.

My local pool is warm apparently- but tbh deforestation of my legs is going to be more than a one day job…

@ChristmasCrackler Have you been able to inhale some pony goodness yet and start to feel stronger?

Last day of everyone home today and I still feel a bit shell shocked- feels a bit Octobery to me. It’s been a whirlwind these last few months.

Today my small job will be the complete filling of the “rag bag” for the charity shop. Just a v small one today.

SpiritOfEdna · 04/01/2023 11:59

@Peridot1 there is no picking up of trees here, just lots of drop off points though; so I can usually drop the tree in a local park to be recycled. However it is so big, when we bought it I could only get it in my car with the roof down and now it is 'open' there is no chance of getting it all in the car in one piece.

All yesterdays jobs done, today job is a very boring one: filing; it seems to have accumulated over the last couple of weeks,

Have a good day.

Aria999 · 04/01/2023 12:10

Morning all! Jobs today may depend on whether dd can go to school. She got DS's conjunctivitis. Eyes look clear this morning so far but we will see.

Then;
Post key of Airbnb that I took by accident
Post a replacement check to the wildlife company as apparently their dog ate the last one 🤣
Do an epic toy clearout to make proper putting away space for toys (didn't do this last year so it's bad)
Book various travel arrangements

petalpower · 04/01/2023 20:28

How’s your daughter’s eye @Aria999 ?
Oh no @Peridot1 - losing your streak is a really bad start to the day.
Tonight my parents in law have gone home and they were the last of the Christmas and NY guests. DH has driven them home as they weren’t up to driving here - it’s nearly 3 hours away so he will stay there tonight and work from there tomorrow. DD has friends over but they are all self contained and need no input. I am sat in front of the log burner with crisps and wine. The dog and I are enjoying some really low brow tv and generally loving life! It has been great to see everyone but quite tiring.

petalpower · 04/01/2023 20:32

( I may also be drinking a cocktail in a can but in my defence there have been visitors non stop for 12 days.)

RunningKatie · 04/01/2023 20:36

Crisps and wine sounds amazing @petalpower
We've started de-Christmassing but someone put empty boxes in the loft so they need to fetch them down again 🙄
Hope dd's eyes are ok @Aria999
Off to herd small people into bed. They do look a good faff and giggle as they get ready. No idea who they get that from!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 04/01/2023 20:40

petalpower · 04/01/2023 20:32

( I may also be drinking a cocktail in a can but in my defence there have been visitors non stop for 12 days.)

Thoroughly justified I would say!

I am doing Dry Jan (plus) and am envious of your cocktail. (Although feeling quite good otherwise).

No projects to really report here as we are away this week BUT DH has off his own bat listed a bunch of furniture he wants us to sell and has a note in his diary to call our local auction house tomorrow. Maybe not quite off his own bat because i have been wittering about this for a good 6 months, but it seems to have sunk in and he is now enthusiastic. I meant to call the auction house last week and got distracted so I was no help on this at all!

petalpower · 04/01/2023 21:05

That’s very impressive behaviour from DH @SnowAndIceLobelia ! Dry January always sounds like a good idea but I’ve never attempted it.

Aria999 · 04/01/2023 21:22

I thought DD's eyes were better today but school said not. I have messaged them to ask if they want her to stay home (they didn't mention it at pickup so maybe not but it is fiendishly infectious and I don't want to be anti social).

Yay team DH @SnowAndIceLobelia ! Made me realize that mine very seldom takes on a project but in his defense he works full time and I really don't!

@petalpower sounds well deserved!

I had a fairly productive day.
Organized chimney sweep,

  • walked round with our painters to facilitate a quote for repainting (to cover the plaster spots left by the electricians plus some general touching up)
  • started getting quotes to clear the pointless cliff behind our house (the only function of which seems to be to risk dropping trees on us in a storm).
  • posted the Airbnb key and the replacement check
  • booked accommodation and car hire for our Florida trip in March

No clearout or tidy up though, I ran out of time

Peridot1 · 05/01/2023 08:29

Morning all.

Thanks for sympathy re my Wordle streak. I was not a happy bunny! Grin It was at 63 and I was attempting to beat my previous best of 90. Back to Day one today.

@petalpower your wine by the log burner sounds lovely. And the cocktail in a can! Enjoy your post visitor peace and quiet!

Well done to DH @SnowAndIceLobelia! Also well done on Dry January. We are starting next week apparently! Too much temptation around just yet! And DH is aiming for Damp rather than Dry January. We did well last year so I’m going to give it a proper go once DH is on board. I find it too hard otherwise.

Hope DD’s eyes are on the mend @Aria999.

lots to do here today. Didn’t start on the Xmas stuff yesterday so need to start that today. Also got some papers through yesterday to do with the sale of my Dad’s house in Dublin and I need to have them witnessed by a notary public so have organised that for this afternoon and then I need to courier them back to Dublin. Have still to do the returns of clothes items too. And am still catching up on the towel washing from visitors. Then need to do the bedding. Will just chip away at that.

have a good day all.

RunningKatie · 05/01/2023 19:38

Evening! Flopped on the sofa with a mug of tea. This morning I ironed before doing the school run, so feel I've accomplished already!
Just emailed about getting my car looked at and have finally put this years calendar.
Roll on the weekend, it's only been a short week but my brain is mush. Hope everyone is ok today.

petalpower · 05/01/2023 20:21

Had a really busy day catching upon jobs. I’ve done over 20,000 steps! Still haven’t taken down the Christmas decorations but made a start taking down the cards and one of the trees. Tomorrow we should have fibre broadband installed so I needed to move things out the way in preparation. Took DD to the hairdressers and whilst she was in there I did a bit of shopping including buying next year’s Christmas cards in Sainsbury’s as they were only 30p a pack!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/01/2023 02:10

Haven't managed to get any projects started or completed, but DAMN I'm obsessed with my little hand held wand vacuum and use it every day. 🤣

FireworkFluster · 06/01/2023 07:16

Morning! Ive been catching up on last three pages (75 posts on my mumsnet) and you all really sound like you're in the kitchen after a party 💕 Love the chit chat and gentle humour.

It's raining here too and we have rivers bursting their banks again. Going back many posts I'd like to nominate blue lobelias for iceandsnow's wall - or is that a given?

I hope the sick, wounded and sad are feeling better. I too have a 'one who got away'. Though it would never have worked so I'm glad he did. Every now and again I feel a pang though. Was also 15 years on and off.

I used one of those Shark sticks at work @Mumtobabyhavoc and I am quite tempted too.

With Christmas and then not feeling well for a bit, the house is in some disarray, so I have plans to do shorts bursts today. Just putting things back where they belong.

Have a lovely day everyone xx

Peridot1 · 06/01/2023 08:20

Morning all.

love the analogy of us in the kitchen after a party @FireworkFluster. With lots of tea and cake I hope!

Peridot1 · 06/01/2023 08:27

No idea why that posted before I’d finished!

Papers for house sale all signed, sealed and sent by DHL. Sale should complete next week.

I did similar with wrapping paper in Waitrose @petalpower. 75p a roll and it was much nicer than what they had in before Christmas I think. Weird!

Started on taking down the Christmas stuff - brought all the boxes in from the garage and de-Christmassed the kitchen. But it’s all just sitting on the dining table so far. DH and I are going to do it all today. The problem with putting up so much is the taking down.

That will be enough for today I think. With the usual laundry and vacuuming.

Happy Friday!

Aria999 · 06/01/2023 11:58

Happy Friday everyone.

DD now has a course of antibiotics (ear infections too apparently) and can go to school today.

I am also off to the doctor to see if my lingering cough is asthma related.

Otherwise I'm hoping to have a fairly lazy day though it seldom actually turns out that way.

SpiritOfEdna · 06/01/2023 13:58

Morning, cup of tea and cake in the kitchen sounds great; putting the world to rights Smile So glad it's Friday.

  • The christmas tree is finally in two pieces to fit in the car - I worked off some work stress with the machete! A sentence I never thought I would write. That will go to the park tomorrow and I'm pondering whether to do the park run (but run/walk) at the same time. I am doing Dry January, I won't be so lethargic tomorrow. Decisions!
  • Need to do a tip run over the weekend to get rid of some junk which am eying up now.
  • I don't have TheNiece tomorrow so can blitz the house/office and bedrooms

Enjoy the rest of the day.

petalpower · 06/01/2023 17:19

I’ve put away all the Christmas decorations - finally! It was a much bigger job than I remembered. Our new fibre broadband has been installed but isn’t working yet. Husband says it might not switch on until midnight so until then we’ve got to hotspot from phones. Lots of other little jobs ticked off the list today but am tired now and planning to hit the sofa with wine and pizza as soon as the sun’s over the yard arm. From my previous posts it probably sounds as though all I do is drink wine and eat crisps but I do eat healthily most of the time (honest guv!).
