We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

We believe you @petalpower! Millions wouldn’t! Grin I’m sitting here with a glass of wine. DH has gone to the pub to meet a man about joining the parish council. I’ve a pan of chilli on for when he gets back.

We did some of the Christmas stuff today. Both trees are still up but naked. Dining table is a mess. Hall is full of boxes. We have way to much stuff. It’s ridiculous. I bought things that fitted in various houses overseas most of which were a lot bigger than UK houses. And of course I bought stuff since too!

well done on the machete job and still having all your limbs @SpiritOfEdna!

Hope you are all on the mend @Aria999.

I am planning a final weekend of eating and drinking all the crap and starting a healthy eating and bit of a fitness plan from Monday. I saw a thread somewhere on MN about Callanetics which I used to do in 1990 with some friends in Bangkok so I thought I’d give it a go again three times a week and a long walk the three days and a rest day on Sundays. I’m going to Australia in February and I’d like to shift a stone and tone up a bit before I go.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 07/01/2023 08:16

Morning all!

I could do with working off some work stress with a machete every now and then. Grin .

Our Christmas decs are down as well but the box has not yet been returned to the loft so that is one of today's tasks.

I also plan to start emptying the two desks we plan to sell so they can be moved to the auction house.

FireworkFluster · 07/01/2023 10:17

Hello all!
I am winning with my house. Four days off work has helped. Got some errands run yesterday and helped mum with some paperwork. Booked pet vet visits.
Still feeling not quite right but have another hospital appointment this week which I hope will give answers.
Our decorations are down too, and will go back to loft later.

petalpower · 07/01/2023 16:59

Hope your hospital appointment goes well @FireworkFluster and that you start to feel a bit better. It’s always a good feeling to get on top of things at home!
How has the desk emptying gone @SnowAndIceLobelia ?
Hello to everyone else. Hope you’re having a good weekend.
A fairly chilled out day here today. My little job was to put some WD40 on the lock of the letterbox (we have one of those box things on a post at the top of our drive) as it was getting a bit tricky to open. Also posted a thank you letter and a birthday card and visited auntie at the care home. We played snakes and ladders this afternoon with her and ate lemon drizzle cake! DH is tinkering with the new fibre broadband set up and adding devices of which there are many. As with most technical things, it doesn’t seem to be doing quite the right things and is going to need more money spending on boosters apparently. Nothing is as straightforward as the adverts promise!

RunningKatie · 07/01/2023 17:42

Our decorations are down too. I'm sure in a day or two I'll spot something hiding away in a festive corner!
Youngest dc looks quite pale today so we've sat and watched a film to see if it's just back to school tiredness. Fingers crossed.

petalpower · 07/01/2023 19:00

Oh yes @RunningKatie , after a few days I always spot a rogue decoration lurking somewhere. Usually when the boxes are sealed and put away for next year!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/01/2023 06:05

Managed a good few tasks today: laundry/fresh sheets; sorted laundry area so it's organized, consolidated cleaners (same ones not a science experiment); spot vacuumed with wand vacuum; rearranged part of the counter in the kitchen and am now using a 5-outlet gadget that also has a couple or three charging ports; made dinner (salmon, veg, wild rice); and finally made brownies for the peppermint (oat milk) ice cream I bought a couple of weeks ago. The ice-cream is okay, not stellar, but the brownies make up for it. 😊

FireworkFluster · 08/01/2023 06:17

Morning! Happy Sunday everybody 😊Thank you @petalpower! Oh you've reminded me that I need to pick up some WD40 today as we have a sticky lock.
@Peridot1 this household needs to join you with a bit of a health kick. We are suddenly feeling aged and overweight. Diet definitely needs an overhaul and some brisk walking added to my days. DH is planning to get his bike out but I'm hoping to get him walking first as he's been quite sedentary for the last year or so wfh. My MH seems to take a dive when I eat crap, and I need to pull myself out of a bit of a wobble. Today is the day!
@RunningKatie I hope DC is ok and watching a film did the trick. My adult household watched 'Sing' the other day and loved it!
@SnowAndIceLobelia I hope you are getting on well with your listings.

Still raining here! Plan to sniff some ponies today from within waterproofs. My bathroom needs a clean too, so that's today's task.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 08/01/2023 06:21

Morning all.

Hope you are feeling better soon @FireworkFluster and the hospital appointment yields answers. Thanks

I half emptied one desk. As is always the way one job yielded alot of other jobs and so the desk was pulled out, the wall and carpets were vacuumed and various books and objects put away. The other side of the desk is locked and of course we have lost the key. DH is quite handy with such things so he is going to carefully take it all apart so we can clear that bit- but it does mean the entire exercise is taking longer than expected.

I think a few more tip runs need to be booked!

Wishing everyone good days!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/01/2023 06:27

@FireworkFluster Good for you! Such a nice feeling, isn't it? It's nice to know someone else understands my wand vacuum obsession. I have fingers crossed re your medical follow-up.
@Aria999 Sorry your dd now has an ear infection. I suffered those frequently as a child, perforated eardrum and all. She has my sympathy and hope for a speedy recovery.

FireworkFluster · 08/01/2023 06:32

That sounds like a very busy day @Mumtobabyhavoc! You will sleep well! Hope Havoc is a good sleeper 😴
Morning @SnowAndIceLobelia 👋 and thank you 😊 I know just what you mean about jobs ending up bigger. I think that's what so often causes procrastination. I have a bit of decluttering to do. And then I need to purchase a bookcase. Am quite good at moving books on but I have a few I want to keep and a pile I haven't read yet. This is the year that I read my books, cancel audible, stop buying books then when I run out, use the library and it's app 🤞

Peridot1 · 08/01/2023 08:33

Morning all.

sounds like you did loads @Mumtobabyhavoc.

We needed boosters too @petalpower. And you have reminded me I need to get DH to WD40 the handle on DS’s bedroom door which is squeaking a lot.

Shame about the key to the desk @SnowAndIceLobelia. Could it be in the other desk?

Hope DD is ok @RunningKatie.

Same here with books @FireworkFluster. I don’t really do Audible but have way to many unread actual books and books in my Kindle so one of my New Years resolutions was to stop buying Kindle books. So on 1 January as my sister was here buying books on her Kindle I ended up buying three! I didn’t even last a day!

Well my house is still a mess of boxes. Wasn’t really feeling great yesterday so energy and motivation were lacking. DH took the main tree down. One still to go from the living room. Most stuff is on the dining table so will definitely be packed away today. And hopefully we can at least get the boxes upstairs even if they don’t make it to the loft today.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Aria999 · 08/01/2023 13:03

Morning all!

All sounds very productive! I am drowning in my list at the moment, even though work has gone quiet.

Yesterday I took DS to Kung fu and then to a party so didn't get much done.

Today I need to change the sheets and fold some laundry (I am running out of clean laundry baskets 😳)

The house is a mess and the tree needs de-decorating by Tuesday evening so I can put it on the curbside. It's a 7 foot one and we have a little Prius C so no recycling drop off for us. DH says it is better for global warming to put them in landfill so that can be my excuse for not spending a long time chopping it into transportable pieces.

Still need to do a toy sort out.

@petalpower I hear you on the broadband. DH has spent many frustrated hours fighting ours. Fingers crossed it is currently functional after the last big sort out but I feel like it could stop at any moment (normally packs up when I have an important zoom call).

FireworkFluster · 08/01/2023 16:04

Same @Peridot1 ...I have bought 3 books already. But no more!! I'm going to have to stay away from the reading board :( Currently thoroughly enjoying one written in 1968 though.
You've been busy @Aria999 !

Productive day here. Spare room is now a study space. I've used it to complete an online study module too! And the bath is clean. I'm hoping DH will do something about dinner as I've lost all enthusiasm. Think we've run out of smug batch meals.

Planning an early night tonight 😴

SnowAndIceLobelia · 08/01/2023 18:23

Very busy and productive days on this thread!

No success on the key front I am afraid. But I did manage to clear out a fair bit in the other desk.

Early night here too I think. I have a slight headache and feel just tired.

Hope everyone is well.

RunningKatie · 08/01/2023 18:30

I typed out a post once and the MN gremlins froze my screen.
Quiet day here today, food shop done, beds stripped and ironing done.
Also done crafts with the dc, and agreed to bin the rest of the kit as it was rubbish!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/01/2023 03:51

Christmas dinner #2 done! Roast chicken, dressing, gravy, roasted beets and zucchini. Left-over brownies with caramel something "ice cream." Particulary happy with dressing and gravy!!!! Yea!!!! So happy when it works. 😋

So glad I got the main cleaning and tidying up done yesterday!

Wishing everyone a good sleep and good start to the week tomorrow.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 09/01/2023 06:57

That sounds absolutely delicious @Mumtobabyhavoc !

I am about to start my day. DCs back at school tomorrow. I have been doing really well on my morning routine of up, beds made, kitty litter done, etc. I have it down to mere minutes and the DCs are joining in as well. All before I go downstairs for the first cup of coffee!

More desk clearing today and I am going to start moving things downstairs for the auction people to pick up. I also have someone coming to quote for giving the patio a proper clean. My pressure washer (£40 off Amazon) is not doing the job, but if it gets done properly then it might be able to handle the upkeep.

I was thinking back to all the things I have achieved thanks to this thread. It is actually really building up and there is without doubt an enormous difference!!

Peridot1 · 09/01/2023 09:54

Morning all.

dinner sounds lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc.

I agree @SnowAndIceLobelia. This thread has really helped me get organised with things. I’m not fully there yet but definitely getting there.

We are almost there with the Christmas stuff. Today’s tasks are to get the stuff that goes in the garage out there and the boxes for the loft upstairs. Hoping DS will help. I also need a quick supermarket run this morning and I will take some of the empty bottles to the bottle bank.

We also got a call last night from MIL’s niece - she had a fall and neighbours had to get into the house and paramedics were called and she has been taken into hospital. The paramedic was shocked at all the meds she is on. It’s all quite complicated for various reasons - she is DH’s step mother. And she is in the NW and we are in the SE. We may have to go up and help sort things out depending on what happens in hospital.

RunningKatie · 09/01/2023 20:32

I am making smug soup for the week ahead, I vowed even on office days I'd get something useful done.
We went to the library at the weekend to return 2 overdue books, I took 2 new books out, but in a moment of brain fog managed to leave them in the machine so got home and no books. What a twit, thankfully my online record shows me as having no books so presumably it was noticed.
Hope all is ok with your MlL @Peridot1

petalpower · 09/01/2023 20:40

Hope everyone is ok.
Today’s successes have been buying a new control knob for the cooker as our old had worn away symbols, booking a boiler service and finally sorting out registering LPA with HMRC for auntie (they’ve had the documents since June!).

Sorry about the triple post there! The joys of an iPad that likes to pretend it hasn’t posted your message just to make you look a fool.

Aria999 · 09/01/2023 22:30

@petalpower I had a losing battle with HMRC this morning, I was on hold for hours to two different help desks. Because they sent me a penalty notice for £100 but there is no way to pay it and no record of it on my online account. 🤷‍♀️

Gave up eventually as a contractor arrived to give me a quote while I was still on hold.

Today I paid a painful tax adjustment to IRS (after a long process to sign up for an online account), got said quote, and also began a budget exercise.

Also went to buy more bedding as we thought we might have some stranded graduate students staying with us but they sorted out an Airbnb in the end.

Lol @RunningKatie that is the sort of thing I would do, glad they recognized it! I need to make smug soup too. I have ingredients.

How lovely @FireworkFluster , it's very soothing to have an attractive work space. I love mine (when it's tidy!)
