We've filled up the last thread, so here's the next one!
All welcome- in an attempt to get a thing done around the home (or elsewhere) each day.
Ideally the sort of thing that will stay done- at least for a bit!

Today I have washed my shower curtain, and my 'boiling the kettle job' was to empty and clean my kitchen bin :)

@BadShepherd you only had to ask - never knowingly under catered is my motto so there was plenty of food! Suspect it would have taken you a while to travel here though. Sorry you’re feeling a bit weepy. I’m not great at kicking people up the arse but would do my best if needed. I think it’s a funny time of year around NYE that makes a lot of people feel a bit sad.
Guests arriving very shortly for dinner so will sign off here. Hope everyone is ok.

RunningKatie · 30/12/2022 20:56

I too would like a Greek buffet, instead I've had a McD's from a motorway service station. We managed the NT light trail that was postponed before Christmas. £2.50 for 2 marshmallows on a stick! £6 for a fancy hot choc. My poor bank balance.

ChristmasCrackler · 31/12/2022 07:47

Morning! I've been off sick: went to A&E as I was a bit bothered about myself. They kindly gave me blood tests, ecd, CT scan, and a retinal scan before informing me that I am indeed the person who will go to A&E for a migraine Blush
In my defence I had flashing lights in one eye and I wrote some nonsense messages which at the time looked normal to me (suspect my attempt to inform my office made me look drunk!)

I'm trying to catch up but reading is still harder than it should be and this took me ages!
Big hugs to all.

Peridot1 · 31/12/2022 08:00

That doesn’t sound good @ChristmasCrackler. Glad it was ‘only’ a migraine. And it definitely sounds like getting checked out was the right thing to do.

@BadShepherd - kick up the arse administered! I think we all go through those moments. I’ve just woken up from a dream that I was back with an ex and buying a house in Dublin!

My house is a mess! Five extra people. Lots of wine and beer. I went to bed early-ish last night and left them too it. About to empty the dishwasher. Again. And collect up all the empty bottles.

BadShepherd · 31/12/2022 08:23

@petalpower brilliant that you’re a feeder because I think we ALL want buffet! I think you’re right about the time of year too.

@ChristmasCrackler oh no you poor thing! Not really how you want to be spending what should be a quieter time of year. Did they give you any good drugs? Are you able to get a couple of days down-time to rest your poor eyes and head?

@RunningKatie ugh - I’m far from “my body is a temple”, but the older I get, the more that type of food sits in my guts like a brick - and I would too be seething at the marshmallows. “If you’re going to charge me for a portion of diabetes, please deliver!”.

@Peridot1 Aaaah my Dublin lover - 15 bloody years on and off - last heard heading for Curran (????) and I never heard from him again.

Whose clever idea was it to have village “sports and games” on New Year’s Day? Must. Not. Overdo. It. Tonight.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 31/12/2022 12:11

Hope you are feeling much better today @ChristmasCrackler migraines are no fun and very very scary. Thanks Hope you manage to have a few days off to rest and recover. Do you have a hint what might have brought it on?

SnowAndIceLobelia · 31/12/2022 13:46

Hi again all.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New Year's Eve.

We are about to go out for chocolate cake. Just because.

I did a major declutter of our bedroom and put a jar of flowers on the mantlepiece and changed a picture from one that I don;t like much to one that has pale grey and blue tones whichsuits the dark grey marble and our pale blue curtains. It looks very nice I think!

Peridot1 · 01/01/2023 08:45

Happy New Year lovely people

Not achieving much at the moment as still have a houseful. Dishwasher is running pretty much constantly and I think we have a mountain of empty bottles. And I may need a new liver soon. Looking forward to getting back to normal from tomorrow when everyone leaves. Although obviously it’s been lovely having them. I definitely need a day on the sofa!

BadShepherd · 01/01/2023 09:15

Happy new year everyone! I hope visitors disappear and livers recover.

I attacked my bedroom yesterday and the cat approved! I managed a black bin liner of clothes for the charity shop of things I don’t love/don’t suit me - and I’m ashamed to say that was only a small portion of the decluttering required for that one room. There’s also a bag-for-life of “rags” (lonely socks/stuff with holes in) they can sell by weight.

Today I’m going to attempt to get the TV on the bedroom wall as it’s been sat in the corner unused for 18 months.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/01/2023 09:20

Happy New Year. 😊
I'm happy to report I'm starting '23 having organized Havoc's clothes and two boxes of toys yesterday as well as folded and purged in my pyjama drawer.
@ChristmasCrackler your hospital visit for that migraine sounds fairly scary. Are you doing ok? I hope the worst has passed. 💖
@SpiritOfEdna have your pyjamas arrived?
@BadShepherd it's a new year. 💖

Well I've been on youtube watching/listening to about a dozen renditions of Auld Lang Syne and have concluded Mairi Campbell's is the best. Honourable mention to a bagpipes version I got teary listening to, although I was teary already having listened to Mairi Campbell.... The Scots sure know how to do melancholy.

RunningKatie · 01/01/2023 10:49

Happy new year! We have rain here so I'm going to attempt a tidy up and see if I can get the dc to make gift tags for next Christmas with the cards.
I need to sort every corner of the house. Coffee first!

ChristmasCrackler · 01/01/2023 12:38

I am feeling much better thank you! Sadly no good drugs - had to beg for paracetamol. It's all a blur now thankfully.

Happy new year to all!

SpiritOfEdna · 01/01/2023 15:00

Happy New Year! Afternoon - here's hoping migraines, hangovers, visitors (welcome or not) have all gone. @Mumtobabyhavoc they have indeed arrived and they are as comfortable as promised. If I didn't have to walk the dog, I would not have got dressed at all today but that is a slippery slope....

Today's plan are

  • To enjoy the christmas trees before they come down and/or go to recycling.
  • Do another lesson of my online art course
  • Meal plan for next week

I need an early night, the fireworks here were wild, the dog was OK while they going off, but when they stopped was barking at random noises through the night.

one more dog walk, then food, pyjamas, bath, early night.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 02/01/2023 06:26

Morning all. I hope everyone is very well. @ChristmasCrackler hope you are resting well and feeling better.

Thanks to everyone and a wonderful 2023.

I could not sleep so got up at 4 and watched The Windsors on netflix and have now made a banana and cinamon cake which will meet the rest of the family when they wake. I am rubbish at baking so just added the extraneous bits to a packet mix. But it usually meets with approval! Warmed with icecream seems as a good a breakfast as any!

Hope every one has a lovely day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2023 06:55

@ChristmasCrackler I also suffer from headaches (daily). I have tried pain meds as well as anti-depressants; exercise/meditation/yoga/changes to diet, you name it. I finally tried botox injections (upper back/neck/scalp) earlier this year and I noticed a decrease in both intensity and duration. It has to be done regularly though and is expensive unless you have insurance to pay.

@SnowAndIceLobelia I love popping something in the oven and getting chores done early like that. It's so nice to smell fresh baking first thing in the morning.

@SpiritOfEdna I'm glad you've got your new pyjamas. I love the feeling of new pyjamas. I did stay in mine all day; then washed up and put on fresh pyjamas for dinner. It was a very lazy day having had just 4 hours of sleep.

I did manage to vacuum, do a load of laundry and rid the cupboard of at least 8 old coffee cups that were unused or chipped. I was smh wondering why I had them taking up space for so long...
Dinner was baked ham, scalloped potatoes and a simple Greek salad. Since I ate two pieces of tuxedo cake after lunch I wasn't in the mood for much after supper, so just had a square of chocolate. It was perfect.
I hope this New Year's Day was a good one for everyone. I'm off to bed shortly. Christmas tree to be taken down tomorrow.

ChristmasCrackler · 02/01/2023 08:09

Interesting about the botox @Mumtobabyhavoc I'm wondering if ive done some damage from jaw clenching and have been considering looking into it.

I'm still finding it a bit hard to focus but I'm feeling a lot better. It seems I had migraine aphasia.

New pyjamas sound lovely for the new year @SpiritOfEdna

DH and I love the Windsors @SnowAndIceLobelia! Did you see the satanic ritual episode? Sorry you couldn't sleep though.

I'm back to work tomorrow 😊

Peridot1 · 02/01/2023 09:02

Morning all. You all sound very industrious. Especially @SnowAndIceLobelia with early morning baking! Not something that would ever happen here!

My visitors leave today. The dishwasher will be happy. I’m not planning on doing much after I take them to the airport. Lazy afternoon followed by something from the freezer for dinner and an early night. Tomorrow I will start getting the house back to some sort of normality. Maybe. Might have another lazy day!

RunningKatie · 02/01/2023 12:19

Afternoon all, I'm having a super productive day, I am freaking out about starting my new job tomorrow. DC1 is back at school tomorrow, but DC2 is off for another day, and DH is in bed ill. He's that ill that he hasn't even got as far as donning the dressing gown of doom.
I received new PJs for Christmas, DH had gone off and bought them, I'd sent him to Sainsbury's but he'd ventured as far as Next and found some that I love and that I'd been eyeing up but hadn't told anyone. Given that he can be terrible at presents I was so pleased. And they have pockets!
Today I'm going to make smug soup with the fridge lurking veggies, I've seen a thread on here somewhere about decluttering where you do 1 thing on the 1st, 2 things on the 2nd etc., I might give that a go.

Aria999 · 02/01/2023 15:31

Hi all!

Unpacking today and adding things to my to do list for when the kids get back to school.

@Mumtobabyhavoc have you had your blood pressure checked? High blood pressure turned out to be the cause of DH chronic headaches since childhood, now it is controlled he no longer gets them.

BadShepherd · 02/01/2023 17:29

I’m a night grinder and my dentist made me a silicone guard - they’ve come on leaps and bounds since the 80s - you can talk without going all Sean Canary in them.

@SpiritOfEdna An art class? 😲 Colour me impressed!

@SnowAndIceLobelia Get you! Home bakes lead to home eating however IME. 😳

@RunningKatie Good luck for the new job today - not surprised you’re feeling a bit nervous about tomorrow. With the ups and downs of emotions over Xmas and NY and the suddenly boom - you have this to think about!

I finally managed to get some admin done and post a few letters. Also made a meal plan to cover the rest of the week. And had a nap.

Aria999 · 02/01/2023 18:50

Good luck with your first day @RunningKatie - I am sure you will be great but whatever happens you can look forward to coming home to lovely pajamas 😊

petalpower · 02/01/2023 19:54

Happy New a year everyone! I’ve been missing in action for a couple of days due to family staying and general entertaining. I’ve still got parents in law here until Wednesday evening but that’s all. NYE was a mammoth 16 guests despite my dad and stepmother cancelling due to illness! I managed to slice through my thumb and nail whilst preparing our NY feast so it’s now held together with steri strips. Fortunately my sister in law is an ex nurse so was on hand to patch me up.
Good luck @RunningKatie for your new job. Greetings to everyone else. I have been reading and following but no time to post!
Today I’ve done lots of post visitor washing, made lists for the rest of the week, been to the bottle bank (don’t know where they all came from 😂), menu planned for the rest of the week and parcelled up 3 wrongly sized Christmas presents to return tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2023 23:10

@Aria999 thanks for the thought. Mine are post-concussive.

Still need to take the Christmas tree down. ...

ChristmasCrackler · 03/01/2023 06:29

Morning!
Best wishes to @RunningKatie today 🍀

Oh ouch @petalpower !! (In awe of what you have achieved over the holidays)

ChristmasCrackler · 03/01/2023 06:34

Waves to everyone else and pleased things are settling back to normal (in solidarity with @Peridot1 's dishwasher)

Kids back at school today?
