What makes a women look frumpy

I am considering an overhaul of what I wear and my hairstyle. I am feeling a bit down and frumpy at the moment so thought this would be a positive change.

My overhaul is not going to be a drastic change , I cannot afford to purchase a whole new wardrobe of clothes,shoes and accessories. So please could you give me your items of clothing and / or hairstyles that in your opinion makes a women look frumpy.

This post is not meant to be offensive in anyway, I believe a person should wear whatever they wish regardless of whether another person thinks it's frumpy.

Honestly I think people look "frumpy" when they feel bad about themselves.
Do things that make you happy, wear clothes that you love and take care of your body because you matter, not because of what anybody else thinks.

I think ill-fitting clothing and things like T-shirts and shorts can look a bit rubbish. Having decent shoes and your hair done nicely helps I think.

If they’re ill-fitting. Hey, I’m not judging! That’s what I wear 😂 But I’ve noticed that if I pull a dress on I miraculously look less ‘frumpy’. Let’s not be all goady, I’m trying to help the OP with things I’ve noticed.

I'm not being "all goady", @BiscuitLover3678 . I genuinely cannot work out how a t-shirt and shorts could look less "frumpy" than a dress.
I would think it depends on which of these you choose, the colour and fit etc

yes,I want to know what to know what those MNers wear. One did show a picture of an ankle length frilly floral frock but I gather those are/were "in" at the time.

i disagree!! I follow a scandi girl on insta and she wears pastel crocs with denim shorts/jeans and vintage tees. She is deffo not frumpy!!! If wearing them with pedal pushers, socks and a cheapy top from matalan, maybe! Xo

I lost some weight about a year ago. I notice I look frumpy when I put on clothes that are a bit too big.

I've just been working away with two women of about 60. Both tall and slim with silver hair and good bones. One had a sensible bob, a slight stoop and wore M&S dresses. The other had longer hair tied in a bun, good posture and wore Brora dresses (so, also floral and mid calf but just a bit better cut) The difference was very noticeable and I did think I have a tendency towards the first way of dressing but should make an effort to be more like the second.

I have crocs my lovely. I just don’t have ones that ‘go’ with my new kaftan. 😊

I daresay they look a lot more stylish on someone funky - but they are comfy when pottering in the garden or nipping out to feed the birds. And they wipe clean 😁
