The brief was "chocolate heaven"... would you be happy with this? And how much would you pay for it?

It looks very 80's to me. I would want something more vibrant.

Honestly what is going on with mumsnet at the moment, any chance to have a dig 😂

‘oh you made it op? honestly it’s SO tacky, and I spend £100+ on cake weekly.’
😂

Its looks bloody great! I’d be well proud of that… and I’m south east your pay £70-£80 AT LEAST.

Yep, this. Some people just have to have a go.

OP, it looks fabulous, I'd be really happy with it and would easily pay £50+

ILoveYoga · 20/08/2022 13:57

So given the context that you’re not a professional baker (in that this is purely hobby), and if this is a friend, then asking just to cover ingredients is fine. Not so if you need to earn a wage, pay insurance, need your kitchen to meet health and safety guidelines and have a council inspection for food hygiene. In that case, depending where you live, it would cost anywhere from £50 to £125. I paid about £115 from a friend who bakes cakes for a living (out of her kitchen) and has all of the above I listed, this is within the M25 (Surrey based)

Whatever it cost, it should be doubled to put it well out of the reach of those who should not be eating so much sugar. The NHS is overloaded as it is, without people getting fat, diabetes, children eating too much sugar, and teenagers full of venom carrying knives and attacking people because they are high on sugar, and other things. Sugar makes drugs and alcohol effects worse. We would be healthier, kinder, more patient, and loving if there was not so much sugar available.

Look how difficult it is to find an NHS dentist? It is sugar and not caring for teeth which is creating the shortage.

Lmao teenagers stabbing each other because they had some chocolate cake Jesus please make it stop 😂😂😂

Grin Grin Grin

I often felt pretty pissed off getting up yet again with one of the children in the small hours. I'm going to make the charitable assumption that that's what's going on here.

AdobeWanKenobi · 20/08/2022 16:46

Amused that two days on some posters are still attempting to out twat each other.

DamnUserName21 · 20/08/2022 16:47

Right on cue 😂

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/08/2022 17:06

Just had a look at the local go-to patisserie near here and they charge £80 for a similar cake to serve 6, and £120 to serve 8-10. Their cake decorations are a bit more 'polished' but they should be; they're professionals.

Yours looks amazing as a non-professional OP and I'd happily pay £50-£60 for it, so for a friend that's insisting maybe half of that?

A decent amount of people here who've not RTFT obviously Confused

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/08/2022 17:09

And to those that say 'wouldn't pay anything for it as I don't like chocolate' that's not really the point of the OP's question is it?

I wouldn't actually buy it as I don't like cake, didn't even have a wedding cake, but if I happened to be in the market for a chocolately cake made by a non-professional I'd be happy with £50-£60 for yours OP.

Yh AE is full of this venom filled knife yielding youth murderers .. all pleading not guilty on the grounds of being overloaded on a bag of Haribo's and a mars bar

This thread is nuts

OP , you gave them exactly what they asked for - well done ! If you were my friend , I'd be very happy to give you £40 and some flowers as a thank you .. if I went to a professional it would be double that

HappyBinosaur · 20/08/2022 21:07

It looks fab @Greensleeves

Some posters on here are blatantly just being deliberately horrible which is actually quite pathetic.

HappyBinosaur · 20/08/2022 21:08

And if my friend made me this I’d be delighted. Maybe a bit more than £20 to cover ingredients or £20 and a nice bottle of wine.

Yes, absolutely. Ignore the "I'd hate that, I don't like chocolate" muppets.

You have to pity them really. What must be so bad in their own lives that they have to get their kicks by bringing other people down.

RenegadeMatron · 20/08/2022 22:02

You read threads like this and you can identify straight away who are the sort of people you’d love to spend time with, and who are the sort you’d cross the road to avoid.

I don’t know what the miseries think they’re portraying when they post horrible comments, but they don’t do themselves any favours.

Rockbird · 21/08/2022 02:10

Bloody hell, this thread is like a roll call for every twat on MN. Do you talk to your families the way you speak on here? I dread to think what you say to your children when they present you with their loo roll spaceships.

Not that your cake is a loo roll spaceship OP. Wink

Nekomata · 21/08/2022 07:38

What is the ice cream made of?

Does anyone know?

Bangolads · 21/08/2022 08:53

yes I’d buy this cake and I’d pay about £70 -£90 as that’s the range for professional bakers with a cake this size.

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you personally wouldn't buy it as it's not to your taste but would think it was worth £x. It wouldn't fit my brief of chocolate heaven as I would expect the cake to be chocolate, like a devils food cake. I am also a dark chocolate person, but I can see that another person would be happy with it.
