The brief was "chocolate heaven"... would you be happy with this? And how much would you pay for it?

That's different if you aren't professional without their overheads, more than £30.

Horcruxe · 18/08/2022 17:14

I'm sorry I wouldn't be happy with that if I had ordered a professional cake.

It looks very similar to those homemade cupcakes with random confectionary stuck upon them.

I wouldn't buy it

Anothernamechangeplease · 18/08/2022 17:14

Not to my taste but I think it looks great if you like that kind of thing. As a pp said, I prefer my cakes to look like cake, but lots of people clearly go for this kind of stuff.

Re cost. I wouldn't be willing to pay more than £35-40 for a cake like that, as it isn't that dissimilar in appearance from a lot of much cheaper supermarket cakes. I never really understand the people who spend hundreds of pounds on cakes though!!

The cake is too small for all that decor on. I'm guessing £75.

IncompleteSenten · 18/08/2022 17:15

How much did it cost you to make?
That plus some for your time.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 18/08/2022 17:16

If you made it, you decide how much to charge! Work out how much it cost to make and then decide if you want to charge anything for your time or if the making of it is a gift.

Nekomata · 18/08/2022 17:17

How much did it cost you to make?

I think it looks gorgeous by the way!

That's the issue, I didn't want to charge anything, but the person I made it for is insisting...I think I'll say £20, that'll cover the ingredients.

icelollycraving · 18/08/2022 17:18

That would cost around £90 here from a professional cake baker.

fufflecake · 18/08/2022 17:18

I would not pay for this cake as I don't like the piled on look.
Do you have food hygiene certificates? I know you're an amateur but if you have the qualifications that would add to the price I would pay.

Lovethemarsbars · 18/08/2022 17:18

It looks fantastic. I'd pay £50- £70.

That seems fair to me

Bobbybobbins · 18/08/2022 17:18

I would say £50 so I think you are right that £20/£25 would be a good amount. Well done OP I would be made up if someone made that for me!!

ApolloandDaphne · 18/08/2022 17:18

I think it looks amazing. I would pay £50 for it.

Sartre · 18/08/2022 17:18

I think it looks great and I’d expect to pay £50-60 for it.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 18/08/2022 17:21

Not to my taste but I can appreciate how lovely it looks- well put together and the small details like the chocolate drip and the buttercream on top look really well done. Considering the 3 flavours, the amount of extras on top etc I'd pay £65+ for a non-professional to make that.

Derrymum123 · 18/08/2022 17:21

£65-£75.

AuntieDolly · 18/08/2022 17:21

I think it looks great and would pay £60-£80. You clever lady!

Sapphirensteel · 18/08/2022 17:22

Migraine on a plate for me😔 but it looks great. Very well made with lots of detail. £60?

Did you make it as a gift for someone? Why are they insisting on paying?

LadyEloise1 · 18/08/2022 17:24

Greensleeves · 18/08/2022 17:10

For those asking for context - I made it, and the person I made it for is insisting that they want to pay for it. I have no idea, so I thought I'd get a straw poll on what it was worth, and then charge them half of that amount (as I am NOT a professional, and it isn't presented on a cake stand etc)

Oh my @Greensleeves !
That is my idea of chocolate heaven.
Well done Flowers

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/08/2022 17:25

I'd be very unhappy, but my brief would have included pictures so they knew this was not an option.

Mrsherdwick · 18/08/2022 17:25

That cake looks beautiful. You’re a very talented lady.

Onandupw · 18/08/2022 17:25

Oh mumsnet will be disappointed your post is because your having a Nice Off

maddy68 · 18/08/2022 17:26

Looks amazing. It depends. ...
If they are a friend I would state the cost of ingredients and add a tenner.
