The brief was "chocolate heaven"... would you be happy with this? And how much would you pay for it?

It’s very on trend for this type of cakes and I’d say it fits the chocolate heaven

I’d say based on other cakes I’ve got in the past somewhere between £50-£100

I agree. Fits brief and price range as per this reply

Itsbritneybitch22 · 19/08/2022 20:54

I would expect to pay what ever price was decided when the arrangements were made about the cake, it’s up to you what you charge and up to the customer if they want to pay that price, I would imagine the customer would send a photo and describe what they want before the price is given and then can’t change their mind afterwards.

Energydrink · 19/08/2022 20:57

I would like to pay £40
prices where I live would be about £60 from a hobbyists

£85-£110 from a professional

This cake fits the bill of chocolate heaven perfectly. I'd say £120 and for context I live in Surrey

Cake looks lovely & I imagine the cost to be about £40.

MotherOfPuffling · 19/08/2022 21:06

Oh wow! I made a chocolate cake for DD’s last birthday. Not only did it not look anywhere near as good as this, it was rock solid, heavy as a very heavy thing, and virtually inedible 🤦‍♀️ I need a friend like you!

MadeInYorkshire69 · 19/08/2022 21:10

That looks fabulous and you could probably name your price… but if it was for a friend maybe work out your cost price ( ingredients plus cooking ) … but you would want to work out how many hours it took and how much your time is worth as a cake baker.

Deff on trend for what a choc heaven would look like.well done op.
needs to be eaten fresh with the donut thing though.
I do think it depends on where you live to how you charge though.sadly.

Kodi1981 · 19/08/2022 21:17

It's a lovely cake well done you ☺️

RC64 · 19/08/2022 21:20

My middle daughter bought one like this for her sisters 18th birthday. It cost nearly £90 and was awful. The best part of it was the chocolate! I certainly wouldn’t have paid that for it

Starseeking · 19/08/2022 21:23

£50 should cover it.

Movinghouseatlast · 19/08/2022 21:36

Join Sugar and Crumbs community on Facebook and ask there. They are cake makers.

I reckon over £65.

Sunflower1471 · 19/08/2022 21:36

Looks amazing!

VWCJW · 19/08/2022 21:37

Looks amazing. Just tell them if they insist to give whatever they want. You are very talented. Wish I could make cakes like this.

Idontgiveashitanymore · 19/08/2022 21:37

It’s a lovely cake but there is to much going on the outside for me , you are very talented but less is more. I’d pay about £30 for it

tictoc76 · 19/08/2022 21:44

I think all the people criticising must be very fussy! Looks great to me - £70

Twilightimmortal · 19/08/2022 21:44

You need to take a better picture. I bake cakes and a dodgy picture can make them look short. Crouch down low and take a pic

DillDanding · 19/08/2022 21:52

It looks like a hotch-potch effort by an amateur so I’d be covering the costs of ingredients to an agreed price. Maybe £20?

RenegadeMatron · 19/08/2022 21:52

It’s an absolutely amazing job for someone who’s not even a professional.

The point is, surely, the person whom it’s for is obviously so happy with it that they want to give you some money, so it doesn’t really matter if a load of MNers are unimpressed.

God there are some right miseries out there. I hope it bring you joy Confused

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/08/2022 22:06

That’s amazing! I think it’s worth £60.

NeedASolution · 19/08/2022 22:08

Around these parts I think it would cost £60-£80 from a professional. I think it looks amazing, by the way - but do wish I hadn't clicked on it with PMS sugar cravings... am now dying for a slice!!

Deguster · 19/08/2022 22:08

£60 for me. It’s not my cup of tea eating-wise but it looks absolutely amazing.

Crikey, goodness knows what some on here would make of my baking. I think it looks great!

goldfinchonthelawn · 19/08/2022 22:20

It's not the kind of cake I would choose but I'd expect it to be £40-50.

LaughingCat · 19/08/2022 22:34

As a professed chocaholic and cake diva, I would be delighted with that cake as a gift from a friend and I would DEFINITELY tell you to start a business. And I’d want to pay you for it. It’s interesting, very different and fit the brief perfectly. I LOVE that you mixed up the cake layers inside and if it tastes as good as it looks then you’d be more than worth the money.

Please tell me you’re in Yorkshire so I can be a customer 😁
