The brief was "chocolate heaven"... would you be happy with this? And how much would you pay for it?

Professional cakes are crazy expensive, around here it could definitely cost £75.

girlofsandwich · 19/08/2022 20:05

I'd expect to pay £90 at least. Very impressed you made it yourself, it's gorgeous! I would be delighted to cut into this. If you were making it again for an adult I think it would be lovely to replace the ice cream cones and wafers with some ferrero rocher.

Jellytottss · 19/08/2022 20:08

There some nasty comments on here. I think the bake looks fab and quality it's only that for a small cake it has too much going on.

Cakes are expensive and most cake makers stick things ready made on that type of cake. It's not some type of Christening cake where you would need all the little single hand details. Clearly some don't order cakes!

Yes I'd be happy with it. I'd pay what the going rate was for custom made cakes in the area

DaisyJoy1 · 19/08/2022 20:12

Yes, looks good to me! £25/30 ish?

anglesee · 19/08/2022 20:13

It must have cost a lot to make so charge for ingredients

DaisyJoy1 · 19/08/2022 20:13

(Should add, I live abroad where things are significantly cheaper than in the UK so converting costs to fit the UK it would be at least double that)

threatmatrix · 19/08/2022 20:17

Depends whether they have use cheap chocolate ( I’d say the have) real vanilla etc. it looks very elaborate but no real art home into it. I suppose £40 but I would not like it.

DeeDoyle · 19/08/2022 20:18

To me its a bit confusing with the ice cream, and cherries and filling having a neopolitan affect, none of that is chocolate heaven. Take those off and the biscuits/doughnuts and it perfectly fits the chocolate heaven brief. Id pay £60.

FrazzledMcFrazzled · 19/08/2022 20:20

No idea of price but it looks fantastic . Your friend must be delighted.

workiskillingme · 19/08/2022 20:26

Lol it really makes me smile how in MN world everyone 'hates' cake chocolate sugar etc and would rather have a raisin ryvita as a treat 🙈 in the real world people eat cake as a treat
OP it's great- you achieved what they asked for

Wouldloveanother · 19/08/2022 20:27

I would say £70 ish, I mean it’s diabetes in a cake but if that’s what they asked for it’s fulfilled the brief!

I remember reading a thread whether a poster said they serve salmon, kale, new potatoes and water at kids parties because cake and sausage rolls is ‘disgusting’ 😆 some people try too hard

but I digress

tkwal · 19/08/2022 20:29

I would pay for it , you followed the brief you were given plus a bit extra. I'd say about £60 would be fair , at £20 it's costing you even if you only want to cover ingredients , cake board and electric

JonesyPonesy · 19/08/2022 20:33

Omg it's absolutely amazing and stunning.
It looks if a lot of trouble went into it and a lot of love.
For this standard I'd pay £60 plus for this cake.
It's not easy to make something look this beautiful.
It's not just a case of shoving chocolate decorations on a cake.
The fans are utterly gorgeous.

workiskillingme · 19/08/2022 20:33

@Wouldloveanother it's literally so far removed from reality at times it's comical

PugInTheHouse · 19/08/2022 20:34

I really can't believe how nasty some people are on here. It looks fab! I do love chocolate though so would be perfect for me.

Solerina · 19/08/2022 20:36

The cake looks stunning. You’ve done a fabulous job. Well done.

Maybe charge your friend £40.

Lulu49 · 19/08/2022 20:38

Looks lovely. Couldn’t guess at a price though

GyozaGuiting · 19/08/2022 20:42

I think that’s great- you’re very talented and I’d pay £50 for it.

FayeGovan · 19/08/2022 20:43

Thats very kind of you@Greensleeves

It looks fab

Sunbun19 · 19/08/2022 20:45

Seems there's a lot of miserable, judgemental and just plain nasty people on here

It looks amazing op 😊

McClaire · 19/08/2022 20:47

I think it's a really nice cake. You must be quite talented.
I would pay a few hundred £ for the cake if I had the money.

UWhatNow · 19/08/2022 20:50

I think it looks great too. Can’t believe some of the snooty comments. I’m intrigued how you have random terrys orange segments, French fancies, individual chocolates etc. Did you already have them? Or did you buy them separately? If so that must’ve cost you a small fortune! £20 is really reasonable - they’ll be chuffed to bits (if they really mean it about paying…)

Angrywife · 19/08/2022 20:51

I wouldn't buy a professionally made cake, but I'd be happy with that from the brief, although I would query the ice-creams!
I'm guessing it was around £65
