How much would you spend on a bottle of shampoo

Prompted by a recent conversation with a hairdresser who was surprised to hear that I only spent about £5-£6 on an (average sized) bottle of shampoo. She seemed to think it must be quite low quality and that most shampoo cost at least £12 and recommended a bottle for £24.

No judgement and I'm happy to be cheap! Interested to hear what others think

I pay about a £1 a bottle. I used to pay about £3 but tried a cheaper one. It’s fine. I have clean hair.

DelisButAlsoCrime · 16/08/2022 18:03

I've always paid around £12ish for shampoo, usually from the hairdresser. My hair doesn't get on with the silicone that's used in most 'cheaper' brands, it kind of gives the appearance of being clean but it's actually very greasy.

I pay £9 for the one from Beauty Pie which is more than I've ever spent but it's so nice. I can't imagine spending £24.

I once paid £14 for a bottle of shampoo (special colour) from the hairdresser , and it lasted a long time as I treated it like gold dust. Then I realised I could buy similar from Boots/normal suppliers for about £3-4. There is very little difference as far as I can see.
If I'm buying normal shampoo, I will get Pantene on a deal, which I think is abut £3 too.

abyssofwoah · 16/08/2022 18:08

I pay up to about £5 if it’s a fairly big bottle. Whenever I’ve tried the expensive ones from the hairdressers the only difference I’ve noticed is that I have less money.

GiltEdges · 16/08/2022 18:09

Around £10 for a bar shampoo I think.

DelphiniumBlue · 16/08/2022 18:09

Having said that, I wonder are there any upmarket brands that perform better than Pantene?

NegroniNonna · 16/08/2022 18:09

£1

CucumberCool · 16/08/2022 18:09

80p and I have lovely hair

BastardtheCat · 16/08/2022 18:09

I use Johnsons baby shampoo to avoid the build up of silicone. The silicone free shampoos tend to cost a fortune!

greenacrylicpaint · 16/08/2022 18:10

up to a fiver.

usually go for smart price, but pay a little more for a leave-in conditioner.

MinglingFlamingo · 16/08/2022 18:10

£6 max. My shampoo can be quite pricey but I stock up when it's on offer. I would never spend £10+ on shampoo

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 16/08/2022 18:13

I never buy from supermarket, so normally £15 a bottle for a salon brand.

So much rubbish in cheap shampoos

Adventing · 16/08/2022 18:14

I'm glad its not just me😃She was very nice and not pushy but I was a bit surprised given the cost of living currently that many people would be spending so much money on shampoo. I've often used cheaper bottles in the past but like the smell of the one I use currently, it probably doesn't make my hair any cleaner than cheaper brands or shampoo bars which I sometimes use too

Not much, usually cheapish. I spend money on my conditioner.

Jakadaal · 16/08/2022 18:15

I pay about £20 but it lasts me a few months.

badgerstink · 16/08/2022 18:17

I buy from hairdressing wholesaler which is cheaper than salon prices. With highlighted hair (which isn't cheap) I try and look after the colour best I can.

Lentil63 · 16/08/2022 18:24

I bought my last shampoo and conditioner together, the same make as at my hairdresser but at £60.00 for the two from a well known online marketplace much cheaper. They are 1Ltr bottles and have lasted ages. I also use a hair elixir which is £35.00, that bottle is much smaller. My hair is fairly long and quite thick and much dryer than it was prior to menopause, it makes me feel really old if my hair looks dry and, well old.

Ocularpatdown · 16/08/2022 18:25

Up to about a fiver if Im feeling flush

Georgeskitchen · 16/08/2022 18:28

The hairdressers will be getting commission by pushing sales of expensive shampoo. It's just detergent that smells nice . A £1.99 bottle of a regular high street brand does the same job.
I was told this by a hair stylist of 30 years experience.

SeaBoat · 16/08/2022 18:29

I used to buy head and shoulders or tgel shampoo and they were good I thought but my hair was in an awful way. It was so dry at the ends. I hated looking in the mirror.

I started looking after my hair better and I bought salon quality shampoo for about 12 pounds. It seems expensive but it lasts so much more longer. I wash my hair twice a week and a bottle of it last approx 6 months. That's good because before I was buying shampoo once a month.

middleofthelittle · 16/08/2022 18:30

Head and shoulders always. No other shampoo makes my hair feel clean, I have fine oily hair.

PinkTonic · 16/08/2022 18:31

I pay £9.60 per 3 months for a 400ml refill on a subscription from Fiils. You buy the metal bottles and send the refill packs back for recycling.

mountainsunsets · 16/08/2022 18:31

No more than £3. Normally £2.

Hoolahulahoop · 16/08/2022 18:33

Using vosene at the moment. I like it.
I have bought expressive salon shampoo but I'm happy with cheaper stuff. My favourite is joico brand
