How much would you spend on a bottle of shampoo

Prompted by a recent conversation with a hairdresser who was surprised to hear that I only spent about £5-£6 on an (average sized) bottle of shampoo. She seemed to think it must be quite low quality and that most shampoo cost at least £12 and recommended a bottle for £24.

No judgement and I'm happy to be cheap! Interested to hear what others think

£5-6, preferably on special offer.

I think the hairdresser is just trying to upsell.

Chocolatiestchocolate · 16/08/2022 19:13

£1-2 whatever on offer

Polimolly · 16/08/2022 19:14

About £18. Happy to buy expensive shampoo as I only wash my hair every 5 days. A bottle lasts forever

I imagine there's a price point (probably quite low!) after which the quality doesn't actually improve.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/08/2022 19:16

No more than £12 .

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 16/08/2022 19:19

I buy Tesco's baby shampoo.
It might be a quid.

GettingOrganisedNow · 16/08/2022 19:19

About £1, maybe more if it's a big bottle/bar.

I was shocked to learn that my SIL buys shampoo that costs £40 a bottle. I genuinely didn't know that shampoo could cost that much. She washes her hair twice a day too! and to be honest, it doesn't look amazing

declutteringmymind · 16/08/2022 19:21

£14.99 for a litre of Joico purple shampoo from TK maxx. It will last me a year. For those of you who use salon brands such as kerastase etc, the 1 litre bottle is a lot cheaper online from reputable suppliers (I don't trust eBay or Amazon for these kinds of things).

mackthepony · 16/08/2022 19:26

Depends on your hair I think.

I ahev have greaseball hair and the cheapo stuff is the same as the expensive gear.

I still need to wash it every day really

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/08/2022 19:26

1 litre Shampure (Aveda) costs about £54 but I wait till M&S have an offer . I top up the pump bottle with smaller one if it's on offer

A litre lasts a year .

userxx · 16/08/2022 19:27

I swap between an expensive brand and a cheapo one, I don't wash my hair very often either.

juniperjewel · 16/08/2022 19:27

I've never paid more than £5 but my menopausal hair is awful at the moment.
Would any of you experts mind recommending a good shampoo / conditioner / finishing product.
Hair is very dry and thinning. Brunette (coloured). I don't mind investing a bit to try and sort it out.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 16/08/2022 19:28

I buy Philip Kingsley Remoisturising shampoo - about £50 for 1,000ml. My thick, curly, frizz-prone hair honestly does feel much better with it than with any other shampoo. If I couldn’t afford it any more, I’d go back to Aussie, which was (a distant) second best.

AYearOfCushions · 16/08/2022 19:28

I buy head and shoulders itchy scalp as it's THE only shampoo that doesn't leave me tearing the skin of my scalp.
It's regularly on offer, 3 bottles for £10 so I stock up but I'd pay £10-£15 a bottle if I had to.

AppleBottomRats · 16/08/2022 19:29

About £6 - I get faith in nature conditioner and am currently working through some shampoo bars I bought from lush ages ago but they seem to last forever. I have sensitive skin and can’t use a lot of the more popular brands. I actually used to just use baby shampoo but I’m trying to use more curl-friendly stuff now.

yonce · 16/08/2022 19:30

Up to £30 depending which one I get. Same for shampoo. Lasts months though!

bananaboats · 16/08/2022 19:30

£25 each for shampoo & conditioner, not from the hairdresser! I only wash my hair twice a week so lasts me a while and I notice a big difference over cheaper products.

Thesearmsofmine · 16/08/2022 19:34

Upto £5. My hair is thick and shiny so I don’t think it’s doing any harm!

hotfroth · 16/08/2022 19:38

I imagine there's a price point (probably quite low!) after which the quality doesn't actually improve.

Same goes for most toiletries I suspect.

You'd struggle to get me to part with any more than £3 for a bottle of shampoo.

MsRinky · 16/08/2022 19:39

I use Aveda but I buy gift sets in the post-Christmas sales with a discount code on top. My last purchase of £65 in Jan 2021 is on course to last me until Jan 2023.

Antarcticant · 16/08/2022 19:39

Up to a fiver.

MsRinky · 16/08/2022 19:41

That's £32.50 a year for both shampoo and conditioner though.

comfortablyfrumpy · 16/08/2022 19:41

I only buy SLS and silicone free.

My local chemist is selling a fab one for £1 Grin. It is the best I have used in years, so I have stocked up.

Ravenblack1 · 16/08/2022 19:42

No more than 3 quid. Depends what's on offer.

Toothachesucks · 16/08/2022 19:43

Under £3
