How much would you spend on a bottle of shampoo

Prompted by a recent conversation with a hairdresser who was surprised to hear that I only spent about £5-£6 on an (average sized) bottle of shampoo. She seemed to think it must be quite low quality and that most shampoo cost at least £12 and recommended a bottle for £24.

No judgement and I'm happy to be cheap! Interested to hear what others think

£5/6 max. My hairdresser is always trying to push £25 shampoo on me and when I was younger I always used to buy it but now even if I had lottery style money I couldn't bring myself to spend that amount on something to wash my hair with anymore. I already spend enough at the hairdresser for highlights and tint without buying the expensive shampoo also.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 16/08/2022 18:39

£22 for a bottle of living proof shampoo. Best money I've ever spent, gone from needing to wash my hair every other day to approx every 4 or 5 days so a bottle lasts a long time. I would never go back to using cheap shampoo again.

I use olaplex so costs me about £100 for the pre shampoo treatment, shampoo and conditioner, but a little goes a long way and I couldn’t recommend it any higher!

I use one of the Kerastase shampoos which is £24 a bottle although I usually buy when there's an offer on.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 16/08/2022 18:44

£1... I've tried lots of different shampoos and conditioners over the years, and always go back to tea tree Alberto Balsam 🤷🏼‍♀️

DigitalGhost · 16/08/2022 18:45

If it was opalex buy it. Worth every penny!

annoyedneighbour1 · 16/08/2022 18:46

I don't like spending more than £2. I buy whatever's on offer.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 16/08/2022 18:46

Liz earle botanical shine approx £13 if I’m feeling flush
or Avon supreme oils if I’m not £3 ish

Wherearethedvds · 16/08/2022 18:46

About £4-5 max but usually less as the one I like for frequent use is often on offer. I did buy a Fanola purple shampoo last year (after recommendations from S&B) and it was about £10ish for a massive 1l bottle - hands down the best purchase ever. I use it once a week and it keeps my colour from going too brassy. I get far longer with my colour now than before, so it's saved me quite a bit

Moomin37 · 16/08/2022 18:46

I only ever buy salon grade shampoo, conditioner and other treatments. Yes they cost more, but my thick hair is much easier to manage / style, the condition of my hair is significantly better and as others have said it lasts a long time.

User48751490 · 16/08/2022 18:48

No more than £2.

TabithaTittlemouse · 16/08/2022 18:48

About £40 for shampoo and conditioner from pureology.Totally worth it.

Babyroobs · 16/08/2022 18:48

I spend £30 on a Redkin one but it is 1000mls and lasts ages.

HalfBloodPrincess · 16/08/2022 18:48

I pay £50ish for each, but that’s for a 5 litre container each of faith in nature lavender and geranium shampoo and conditioner. I bought them last in January and still have just under half left.

7Worfs · 16/08/2022 18:52

I use Kerastase Discipline for frizzy hair, it’s about £24 now

@7Worfs that's the shampoo and conditioner that I use. Have you found a good styling product that helps combat the frizz?

Lacdepassy · 16/08/2022 18:56

I completely refuse to buy anything over £2.

I'm very suspicious of anybody trying to sell me expensive products that I 'need'. I really do not think anyone could tell the difference. Same with face creams etc. It's all a marketing ploy imho

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 16/08/2022 18:58

I buy a salon brand shampoo and conditioner. I have blonde hair (not natural) and if I use shampoo supposedly for blonde hair it always brings out the orange tones and makes it brassy. I used to just use a purple shampoo but that made my hair really dry.

current spend is about £40 for litre bottles of shampoo and conditioner. L’Oréal professional blondifier or vitamino Color

I buy the 1000ml philip kingsley no scent no colour but always on offer. It has to be this due to child with autism. I do recommend it though

Basilthymerosemary · 16/08/2022 19:04

I do spend a lot but my hair is just too difficult. I get Aveda; it is very pricey but it has made a huge difference when it comes to my curls. But I only wash my hair twice a week so a bottle does last.
I use to just use OGX which is still good.

Grumpybutfunny · 16/08/2022 19:06

I use the Aussie brand usually buy when they are on 2 for £10. To be honest I'm on the look out for a good dandruff shampoo that isn't head and shoulders

dementedma · 16/08/2022 19:06

Nothing. Buy shampoo bars instead as they last much longer and current one is £6

Chesneyhawkes1 · 16/08/2022 19:07

When I had nice long hair £15 ish.

Now I've got a pixie cut about £1.50 😂

Ponderingwindow · 16/08/2022 19:07

I have bad allergies so have very few choices in product. £24 will get me a whopping 200ml of shampoo.

all my personal care and household products are like that. My family has to use most of them as well. It’s incredibly expensive.

This. I have short hair, I use a fraction of the amount I'd use of cheap shampoos and it negates the need for other styling products etc. I bought Living Proof S&C at Christmas, the conditioner ran out a week ago and I still have shampoo left over.
