All this stuff they are saying about themselves is ammunition for Labour for the next election.

Truss just has to mention her education background in a future election debate and Starmer will mention that it was under a Tory Government - along with all the education cuts of that time.

Her old teachers are fuming. It wasn't even a bad school

Why does nobody ever mention Sunak’s fixed penalty notice, especially when he talks about honesty and integrity?

TBF I think Sunak was unlucky to be fined given Johnson didn't get a questionnaire for parties attended that were judged illegal.

He was a sly fucker at the end there, refusing to answer that question, after she had.

That fell flat, I think. Looked totally insincere to say he wouldn't show "disrespect" (implying she had by answering) - considering he'd been so rude and belligerent to her throughout the whole thing. Her answer was good.

What's the point? My opinion carries no weight. Along with another 99.5% of the electorate. Astonishing that so much expense is being put to this for the benefit of 200000 Tory party members.

Totally agree.

fizzywat · 25/07/2022 22:13

Johnson I fear, will be back with a bang soon enough. In many Tory member's (and voters) eyes he has to be better than Dumb and Dumber.

Wynona · 25/07/2022 22:17

Having watched that, who would get your vote?

Westfacing · 25/07/2022 22:18

Has Sunak been at the old Colombian marching powder? He's always been obnoxious, but that was something else. It was like watching Zippy bullying George on Rainbow. Painful.

I had a suspicion Sunak was too sweet to be wholesome.
Truss isn't a quick thinker

cakeorwine · 25/07/2022 22:21

Are they both doing the Andrew Neil interviews?

I’d burn in hell before I voted Tory, but Sunak (despite behaving like an arse tonight)

Clawdy · 25/07/2022 22:23

Don't like Liz Truss, but Sunak's constant interruptions and hectoring voice were far more irritating than she was tonight.

hopeishere · 25/07/2022 22:23

Sunack interrupted too much. And was too hectoring.

Truss was less wooden than I expected.

Truss will win with the party unless there's a massive upset.

honkeytonkwoman38 · 25/07/2022 22:23

Great they are utter shite bring on a general election.

WinterMusings · 25/07/2022 22:24

Elevenerifebruv · 25/07/2022 21:33

Truly shocking one of them is going to be out next leader

Out of the frying pan and into the fire we go

My view too.

For all his faults I'd rather have kept BJ that either of these two.

ilovesooty · 25/07/2022 22:24

Elevenerifebruv · 25/07/2022 21:42

He might just be exasperated by her dimness it's true

That was the impression I got.

Namechanger355 · 25/07/2022 22:25

sunak would get my vote

yes he interrupted and was annoying - but he would run the country more competently which is what matters

HelloThereObiWan · 25/07/2022 22:26

Liz Truss is a bit "uncanny valley" now that she has been obviously coached so much. It's a shame. Her speeches in her early career are so much more natural and she comes across as a bit goofy but quite likeable. Now I can't stand to watch her, it's actually uncomfortable.

God help us for the next two years, whoever becomes PM out of these two.

Ellie56 · 25/07/2022 22:27

Wynona · 25/07/2022 22:17

Having watched that, who would get your vote?

Neither of them. They're both shite.

thenightsky · 25/07/2022 22:30

Liz Truss is a bit "uncanny valley

That's it! I was trying to think why I felt weirded out... but that is it.

MomwasCasual · 25/07/2022 22:33

They are both politically at least, loathsome to me, but despite Truss being Remain/left of right, I think she's fickle and shallow, and being driven by personal ambition.

Sunak is a privileged, Brexity, rude arse but he's sticking to the unpalatable (to the Tories) 'truth', which makes me more inclined to side with him.

Ugh. Off for a shower.

stuckdownahole · 25/07/2022 22:35

Sunak was behind in the polls of Tory members, so obviously felt he needed to go on the attack. His problem was that he tried to beat Truss up in a forensic way, looking for her weak spots. But her policies are blancmange. They have no coherent shape or form. It is not possible to dissect her policies.

He came across as ranty but fucking hell, she inspires no confidence whatsoever.

cakeorwine · 25/07/2022 22:37

I don't think they have any plans to help with the cost of living crisis.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 25/07/2022 22:43

I doubt there’ll be more payments to accounts as per Johnson

Lonelycrab · 25/07/2022 22:44

Johnson I fear, will be back with a bang soon enough. In many Tory member's (and voters) eyes he has to be better than Dumb and Dumber.

Sadly, this. Telegraph are pining for Boris. It’ll play out over in coming weeks on top of this, the messiah is back (vom) which just adds to the fact this is all a bit of a self indulgent pantomime really.

friendlycat · 25/07/2022 22:46

Liz Truss is just awful.
I would vote Sunak. But god only knows what way the members will vote.

Personally I think all these tv debates are utterly meaningless and unedifying with people from the same party laying into each other. Considering that the electorate can’t vote, it would have been more sense to hold targeted online debates with their members.
