Things that happened to you that you thought would never happen to someone like you?

Me… abortion. Thought it happened to other women.

Later on a single parent. Was not at all what I thought I would allow to happen but of course you learn life isn’t like that! Many people said they couldn’t believe it had happened as I’m quite conservative and careful but it did!

Sometimes I don’t recognise me though I am still me. Anyone else experienced this?

Defo my miscarriage. Was so pissed off how everyone kept saying how common it is afterwards

It doesn't matter how common it is, it's still devastating when it happens to you. I'm sorry people weren't move supportive. When I had mine my manager thought that I was lying about it. Accused me in front of someone from HR. I really should have found a new job when that happened.

Never thought I would do slimming world and lose 3 stone as quickly as I did , was always anti s/w as thought I could do without ,
My late husband was really gorgeous when I met him at 17 never thought he'd look at me, ( i wasn't best looking at school and no one looked at me there) ended up 26 years and 3 children together

Good thread!
ive had a few moments where I think ‘this stuff happens to other people!’ Even though generally my life has followed the ‘expected’ course ie husband, mortgage, kids, dog 🙈.
loosing my Mum suddenly at 25, was thinking this isn’t my life, how is this happening to me!

having 2 miscarriages in a row - thought this is meant to happen to other people, never in a million years did it occur it would happen to me, especially after conceiving my 1st DC easily. It should have been in my mind as a possibility due to statistics and I was 35 but was a huge shock. Luckily have gone on to have another beautiful daughter.

a more positive one was getting into a grad scheme and earning £30k at 22….seemed like a lot of money and didn’t have much self confidence back then, so having such a big salary so young was huge and quite unbelievable at the time!

Me being gender critical and my adult son has started transitioning to female. What a bolt out of the blue. No earlier signs

Getting pregnant at 16 in the 60s and being made to have my beautiful child adopted. Being treated like dirt by the nursing staff and other patients in my ward. Thank God times have changed.

That’s so sad. Xx

My DS being mercilessly bullied and humiliated at boarding school for two terms culminating in stalking and death threats. My bright, talented, happy boy is now broken; he's in a new school and we're working together to rebuild his confidence and self-belief, but I still feel stunned it happened to him.

So sorry to hear this. At least the has a living family supporting him. So many kids have a miserable time at boarding school and in the past couldn’t speak to their parents about it. OH had an absolutely awful time for years at boarding school. He couldn’t tell his parents.

Living in a foreign country, being able to speak the language fairly fluently and having the nationality (passport etc). I hadn’t even visited the country till I was in my 30s.

i lived abroad as a child (different country) for a while and hated it. Never imagined I would permanently leave England.
