Kate and Pippa Middleton

I'm reading about Pippa's new £15 million home and another pregnancy. I am sure both sisters are lovely people but looking at their lives, it seems like neither ever had any intention of working and used school and university to get themselves mixing in affluent circles to bag a wealthy man to fund their lifestyles.
Do people like this still really exist? I know we all have choices but at times in my life when I have mixed in more affluent circles in university and London, men would spot gold diggers and women who would need to be financially supported a mile off and would not contemplate taking them seriously. I dont know any women who havent have some kind of career or any men that want someone who hasnt worked.
is there anyone bringing up their daughters(or sons) like this in this day and age? would you bankroll them if it all went wrong? just curious.

You mix with the wrong men!! There are plenty men who would be happy to have a SAHW, who looks after the children and house and has their dinner waiting for them when they get home. In fact, if you scratch the surface of most men you will probably find that man, but most won't say it out loud as they will get their heads bitten off by their dw
I didn't have paid work for the first 2 years of living with my partner, but I supported his business by doing all the driving (he has never driven and used to pay others to do this). Then I got a job and my independence and never looked back. Now I am taking a break from work and he wants me back ASAP as I get under his feet in the house!

A downside of marrying a rich, powerful man. Pippa’s FIL.

MaulPerton · 12/07/2022 10:37

Their story is interesting for many different reasons, the main one being that it makes us question some of life’s accepted narratives, which is why people are disconcerted by them.

Have the Middleton women actually managed to subvert both patriarchy and feminism simultaneously to come out on top? It looks to me like they have taken the best bits from both and left the rest behind. That's quite impressive.

I agree

They both have jobs, maybe just not ones you approve of for some bizarre reason. How can you possibly think that the Duchess of Cambridge isn't working at the moment?! Pippa is on mat leave.

And what exactly is that work btw? 🤔

Wiseoldself2022 · 12/07/2022 11:20

Iwonder08 · 10/07/2022 08:00

I don't know anything about the other sister, but Kate's job is just to wear pretty dresses, wave and smile. There is no personal responsibility.

Couldn’t agree more! 😔

LadyEloise1 · 12/07/2022 14:19

@JellyBellyNelly "..... Michael Middleton wasn't a pilot. He worked in operations and was probably on his way to being very senior management in BA."

Michael Middleton was a flight dispatcher with BA.
I don't know how senior that was.

Pippa has just completed her Masters with a Distinction. Didn't know you could do that sitting on your arse all day, with the odd gym class thrown in!

Rugges · 12/07/2022 15:02

and with two young babies and pregnant! Okay she might well have some support and help but it's pretty impressive!

Rugges · 12/07/2022 15:02

It does involve a lot of arse sitting, to be fair. But definitely not any mad baking-based procrastination that, coupled with arse sitting, necessitates the gym visits.

cough cough

🎖 fair play to Pippa!

Yeh all of these very privileged women, from royal kate to "just" rich pippa and vogue! they are judged for not using their educations 🙄, 1) are they contractually obliged to? 2) does anybody ever get a guarantee that they'll get a job that utilises their degree??? 3) education is its own reward surely and 4) are the men judged for not finding the perfect job to match their education? (No) and 5) mothers of young children may well be using their education when their children are older so wait before judging.

VK456 · 12/07/2022 17:04

Not read the whole thread, so apologies if this has been raised already. Pippa’s husband gets the future King as a BIL, which may be a plus for him.
I echo what someone else has said. I wish I’d thought a bit more about my future prospects before leaping into marriage at an early age. I may not have been so worried about managing as I am at present. Couldn’t have married a much, much older man, though.

Hmm1234 · 12/07/2022 19:27

That’s the point they didn’t NEED the money their parents are wealthy so lifestyle will happily be funded by the bank of mum & dad.
Traditional marriages where the man makes the money and the woman is a lady of leisure staying at home with the children if it works for then why not

Youcansaythatagainandagain · 12/07/2022 19:57

I read Pippa’s third child is already a few weeks old.
All that wealth AND privacy. Win win!

Definitely, she kept that hidden very well. Still waiting on a name😁

CatAndHisKit · 13/07/2022 00:05

Many wealthy men don't work - the Royals for a start, I can't see how William and Kate are unequal now in terns of working, yes he was an air ambulaance pilot for a while buut currently they are are a team. Charles didn't ave a job as such either.

Other wealthyh men aer either early retired and had married late, and yet others aer sons of rich men who have cushy places at a dad's business - and some just coast along (yes, a job bt no struggle to get there and then if the don't do it well, it's all cushioned in another way).

But the wealthy who do work very often want a SAHW as thye either travel a lot or entertain a lot and need a good hostess/organiser, or just prefer an unchallenging partner who also looks after them / looks good etc.
Also believeit or not men may just fancy and fall for a woman without a career - love is blind if you like and if he can afford thelifestyle for two, why not?

Women may not have a career for a variety of reasons - doesn't mean they are unattractive or unintelligent. A woman can be equally valued for being a genuinely kind caring person with no higher education and some men value that over looks/success/her income. It goes the other way around - a business woman would often want a SAHP etc.

Unless she does it wrong, and then she's torn to shreds. Ask her SIL.

Vogue wasn't at Pippa's wedding because there was a "no ring no bring" policy apparently- if you weren't engaged your partner was not invited.

I know.

im not the one who said he was a pilot. It was someone else. I said he worked in operations. Being a flight dispatcher is working in operations.

But they made an exception for Meghan and she was invited in the evening.

This!

Angelesque · 14/07/2022 09:40

It all boils down to money - if you are from a wealthy family, you have more choices. Pippa is from a comfortable background and has married into significant wealth, so she has been able to choose to focus on being a home maker. A fortunate position to be in, but not in some way “unworthy” - horror, a woman who has chosen not to work and “just” raise her own children!

The OP appears to be simply reinforcing misogynistic opinions that whatever a woman chooses to do, it won’t be good enough. Why can’t we celebrate women who are happy in the path they’ve chosen in life - even if they’ve been lucky enough to be born into privilege? No-one is slating James Matthews for “using his money to marry closely to the Royal family”, are they? 🙄
