Kate and Pippa Middleton

I'm reading about Pippa's new £15 million home and another pregnancy. I am sure both sisters are lovely people but looking at their lives, it seems like neither ever had any intention of working and used school and university to get themselves mixing in affluent circles to bag a wealthy man to fund their lifestyles.
Do people like this still really exist? I know we all have choices but at times in my life when I have mixed in more affluent circles in university and London, men would spot gold diggers and women who would need to be financially supported a mile off and would not contemplate taking them seriously. I dont know any women who havent have some kind of career or any men that want someone who hasnt worked.
is there anyone bringing up their daughters(or sons) like this in this day and age? would you bankroll them if it all went wrong? just curious.

Would you really though? I mean come on there’s plenty of women that won’t walk away from a three bedroom semi in Wolverhampton when her childrens father is screwing somebody else never mind look what happened to poor Sarah Ferguson when she took a stand against the behaviour allegedly.

I would, and I would take him for zillions.

Well, maybe you would. But if it's zillions you want, you may as well stay. Did Diana or Sarah F do particularly well out of their divorce settlements? Anyway, I've no idea if that gossip is true. I'm just saying that whether it's a love match or not - and to be honest, I've really no reason to think it isn't - they seem to make each other happy and fulfill whatever the other one wants. Sure, his desires will be shaped by his position, but that's true of all of us.William took his time over deciding whether to marry Kate, conscious of his parents. The Royal Family have had enough divorces for it to be OK for William to get one too if he wants. Clearly, he doesn't want that.

LOL, the Middletons were never "extremely wealthy." They managed to scrape together enough funds (using help from relatives) to pay private school fees. That doesn't make you extremely wealthy. They were a normal middle class family with a middle class income.

And that if anyone was ever in a position to pick and choose, it would be the young and handsome future King?
Few if any women from upper class backgrounds had any interest in Royal life which involves sacrificing ever having a shred of privacy, having to perform royal duties, have little to no choice over major or minor decisions in your own life, not even being able to choose your own kids' names, being stalked and abused by the press, not be able to have a job or career of your own choosing, and know that your children will never have any privacy or freedom to choose their own career either. That's why both William and Harry had to marry women who weren't part of upper class society.

TheWheeledAvenger · 11/07/2022 17:41

Because they're jealous they had no chance of marrying William

Err, when Will and Kate got married I was worrying about what options to choose for my GCSEs. Hardly fantastising about marrying a man old enough to be my dad! And I'm a lesbian.

But carry on making up fan fiction because you can't stand that not every worships Kate.

Last time I checked child brides were illegal in this country.

You were too young and too lesbian, some others were too old and too married. A million reasons for having no chance of marrying William.

Point is, there's a level of vitriol on here aimed at the Middletons, a huge desire to show they're not really rich, upper class or pretty enough to have married so well and of course must be so unhappy really because reasons.

This kind of spite is displaced jealousy. It's obvious.

MN is obsessed with class. It's less about William the man and more about the status.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 11/07/2022 18:07

How do we know Carole was the evil schemer? What if it was Michael who was the pushy one trying to get the girls to marry well?

TheWheeledAvenger · 11/07/2022 18:08

LOL, they can never think of anything other than "you're Jus Jellus!", can they? So teenage. Proves they have no actual arguments to make.

I've noticed that Kate stans would rather talk about anything other than Kate (attacking other posters, comparing Kate to Camilla or Diana, and of course that other royal woman who generates x100 times as many threads as Kate). You'd think Kate stans would want to talk about Kate herself and her personality, opinions and accomplishments, but she doesn't have any, at least none that are visible. All anyone ever discusses when it comes to Kate are her clothes, her weight, and her chasing William, since there's nothing else to discuss. There's just no 'there' there.

Thank god I went to Cheltenham Ladies College, where women are taught to do more with their lives than chase men.

71Isla · 11/07/2022 18:17

I don't know about Pippa but Catherine used to be an accessories buyer for Jigsaw, then when she got press harassment, she worked for her parents business, then of course now she's constantly working representing the country via various charities and being an ambassador basically. I know I could not do what she does. She has to do her homework on every charity she represents and is constantly "on." I think she does an amazing job and as many before her have shown, is not for the faint hearted.

Good luck to both of them! I've been knon to joke about winning the Lottery and getting a house, girlfriend, and golden labrador-have been advised that a labrador is a better idea!

ReneBumsWombats · 11/07/2022 18:28

Ah, OK. Thank you.

twinmum2007 · 11/07/2022 18:33

She was sent to St Andrews
University specifically to meet William.

Yep. Of course she was. Because it was a doddle to get into and a sure thing that he was going to fall for her. And that parents who have built up a very successful business TOGETHER, would think it was Ok to pimp their daughter out like that on the grounds that she's dead pretty & might attract the attention of an heir to the throne. FFS

Applications there soared after it was announced he was going there. What else did anyone expect?

CounsellorTroi · 11/07/2022 18:41

I know two women who married men from wealthy backgrounds, privately educated like themselves and never worked after their first baby. They’re rare but they do exist.

JT12 · 11/07/2022 18:42

I think this is very unfair. I had a successful career until I met my husband. He was offered opportunities for promotions when our children were very young and we made the decision that we didn’t want our children being raised by nannies overseas as both of us would be travelling if I were to continue working. I therefore have been a stay at home mum for much of the boys’ lives (and live a very comfortable lifestyle however we were at similar stages in our careers when we met). It was not planned - it was a choice we made. I find people who criticise are often not aware of other factors that come into play when making decisions. Most people try to do what is best for their family. It is not for anyone else to judge from the outside when they have no idea what each person is juggling.

SheepingStandingUp · 11/07/2022 18:52

I'm glad I'm just lowly working class, no one assuming that I can't possibly attract a man without their being some financial benefit to him, and that DH can't possibly attract a woman without their being some financial benefit to her.

William - to dumb to pick someone who loves him, he's just fell for the gold digger and her wicked mothers plot.
Kate -, so desperate for a crown she'd marry someone she doesn't love and just play act it what delivering enough heirs and spares to cement her role.
Harry - to dumb to realise the woman he possibly loves doesn't love him and is using him for his title
Meghan - like Kate but with shorter game play and lower achievement
James M - his wife just wants her kids to be cousins to the King
Pippa - just wants to be rich like Kate
Their partners - marry anyone if they get closer to the crown
Similar has been said about Bea and Eugene's partners, just marrying them for the wealth now Daddy is skint, just marrying them for the contacts to get richer.

Mandyjack · 11/07/2022 18:59

If they were gold diggers would they have bothered going to uni?

Well Kate needed to to meet Wills. Her parents weren't whoring her out to just any rich man. Because that's what the accusations amount to. Cm trained her to daughter, avoiding to some, to prostitute herself on the altar of royalty And wealth. It doesn't matter if he's nice or not, you do whatever it takes and you may him so the best of us are financially and societally set for life.

No matter that its massively impinged in all of their lives, and future children, that they already actually good parents but can't be if they whored out the eldest.

Mandyjack · 11/07/2022 18:59

If they were gold diggers would they have bothered going to uni?

Yes

a) to meet eligible men
b) to build suitable networks to meet eligible men in the years following graduation
c) to have skills, expertise and knowledge, both for the sake of it and to be interesting
d) to have a plan B

That's in general of course, not a commentary on specific individuals

I think people are misinterpreting what is being said here. I haven't seen much negativity at all toward Kate, Pippa and Carole (and Michael and James). In fact, a fair few of us have said that if we had our time again, we'd do exactly what they did.

You'd get them a good education to set them up for life or you'd force your eldest to trick s and marry a specific man so you could be rich and famous regardless of her feelings?
