MIL tattooed DS's name...

... We have just had a baby, 2 weeks ago, MIL immediately tattooed baby boys name on her arm.

However, we have since had a change of heart re the name... What a nightmare!

We didnt ask her to, or knew she was doing it, it's obviously really sweet of her to do it so that's not the problem it's more just now we dont want to call him that.

I feel awful! How on earth do we handle this? I'm really trying to talk myself into keeping the name, but it doesnt sit right...

😬😬😬😬

ScamOrNoScam · 29/06/2022 13:38

Can you use that as the middle name so she can just add the "new" first name to the front?

It's really not your problem, to be honest. It was entirely hwr decision, and not something most people would do. Youre entirely within your rights to change your minds, it's still very early days and you're only getting to know him.

Twizbe · 29/06/2022 13:41

Oh yikes. Perhaps she should have waited until you registered baby....

Erm... can you live with that name or does it just really not work?

Littlebirdyouaresosweet · 29/06/2022 13:41

Ha ha hilarious..
Does she have tattoos of her own dc?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/06/2022 13:42

Have you registered him yet?

Vallmo47 · 29/06/2022 13:43

I agree with suggestion to keep it as a middle name- you liked it enough so maybe it will work better as a middle? She could then add his name to the tattoo. To be honest she was a bit premature to do it after only 2 weeks but I definitely would not want to upset my MIL so I’d try to find a compromise.

IncompleteSenten · 29/06/2022 13:45

No way would I keep a name I didn't actually want to use because someone had decided to tattoo it on their body.

Use the name you like.
She can have laser removal or a cover up.

Rulefff · 29/06/2022 13:48

lol

OliveOyl321 · 29/06/2022 13:49

I think @ScamOrNoScam suggestion is a great one! Could that work??

MermaidEyes · 29/06/2022 13:50

She's daft for doing it so quickly, she could have waited. He's your son so if you prefer a different name then go for it.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 29/06/2022 13:50

That's so funny!

Can I be there when you tell her you're changing his name? I'll bring some nice biscuits.

Littlebirdyouaresosweet · 29/06/2022 13:51

Or suggest mil gets a pet and uses the name?!

inmyslippers · 29/06/2022 13:52

Will make a funny story in the future

WingingItSince1973 · 29/06/2022 13:53

If you want to change his name then do so. It's not your fault she rushed out and had it (weirdly) tattooed onto her body. He's your baby and his name will be his for life. She can get her tattoo altered or use that name as a middle one but only if you want to x

Seeingadistance · 29/06/2022 13:55

Ha ha ha!

flyingant · 29/06/2022 13:55

Oh, come on. This has GOT to be wind up!

rnsaslkih · 29/06/2022 13:58

Tell us the name and we can say whether you should keep/change

it’s hard to say otherwise

couldishouldigoforit · 29/06/2022 14:00

Oh wow

You're totally going to be the DIL from hell now as she'll think you are changing it on purpose 😂

Frankly it's working quite well already 🤣🤣

@dilterry I'm struggling to believe this actually, but if it's true, it's her problem, not yours. You can't give your child a name you no longer like, simply to avoid upsetting some loon who got a tattoo done!

PartyPlan · 29/06/2022 14:02

I hope the OP doesn’t have hairy hands, this is hilarious 😆

Best suggestion so far!!!

@dilterry she can do this or have it incorporated into another 'design'. Whatever she does is up to her, she charged ahead getting inked, her problem, not yours!!

Hahaha it is slightly funny, but i also just feel so bad for her.

The name absolutely doesn't work especially as my dd pointed out it sounds like a certain body part that is less than ideal.

Even as a middle name isnt really an option but we would keep it for her i guess, just not as a first name.
