Shall we have a Stranger Things S4 Vol2 prediction thread??

SPOILERS! OBVIOUSLY!

I've just finished Vol 1. I'm excited and impatient and I want to watch Vol. 2 now!

But as I can't, I'm theorising 😃.

Theory 1 - Eleven won't beat Vecna / the mind flayer (is he still about?? Unclear; when the kids were doing some of their own theorising plot exposition they talked about the Demogorgon being the Mind Flayer's foot soldiers, and so Vecna is the five star general - but they might not be right?) at the end of this season. I think this will be an 'Empire Strikes Back' style plot - Eleven will leave training too soon to go rescue her friends, she won't be strong enough, and therefore set up the final showdown in S5. I reckon they've exhausted the "there's a new threat from the upside down! Ok, Eleven has beaten it, end series" format at this point.

Theory 2: related to the above. She'll need to go find Eight, the other girl who escaped Hawkins Lab, and team up to beat Vecna / whatever else is in the upside down for good. Eight clearly has the same power to create hallucinations that Henry Creel / Vecna has, Eleven has the telekinesis power. Maybe they need both to finish him off?

Theory 3: also related to the above. Henry Creel is the father of all the kids from Hawkins Lab - they all get their powers from him. Don't think he would have been old enough to be a sperm donor type situation, so am thinking maybe a form of cloning? In the Eleven's mum backstory it was said she had volunteered for the experiments but not known she was pregnant, and that's how Eleven came to be. Makes sense for just one kid, but the lab flashbacks this season have shown loads of kids - there can't have been that many accidental pregnancies!

Theory 4: Dr Brenner was actually getting Eleven to look for Creel in the upside down in season 1, not the Demogorgon. He worked out that Eleven didn't just kill Creel, she blasted him into another dimension, but as Creel was the source of the superpowered kids, and he only had Eleven left, he needed to get Creel back.

Theory 5: Steve is going to die in Vol2. Possibly saving Nancy? The Dustin / Eddie friendship is being pushed hard in Vol1, I think because Eddie will replace Steve as Dustin's big bother type figure. Also, they've killed off a lot of side characters so far (Barb, Bob, Billy) I think its time someone from the core group took a hit.

What do you reckon??

I like theroy 3!
Also to find 8.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 28/06/2022 07:15

Re. Theory 5. I really don't want Steve to die, but it seems inevitable! He's far too nice this season - he's pretty much reached perfect guy status. Last season he was still shallow and chasing girls but now he's helping Robin find a girlfriend and talking about not wanting another relationship all about sex... He's got no flaws anymore. Totally for the chop.

Eddie is also a lab child. He has hidden his powers due to trauma but they will be resurrected to defeat Vecna

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 28/06/2022 23:32

Steve better not die!!!!! I love him. Though I think a main character will die. No idea who though.

icebearforpresident · 29/06/2022 07:16

I’m going on holiday on Friday and if it hadn’t already been postponed twice due to covid I would seriously be considering postponing it to see vol 2 on Saturday. At least I won’t have the internet to avoid while i’m away so should miss spoilers.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 29/06/2022 07:21

I hope he lives too Mabel, fingers crossed I'm proved wrong!

So, not sure how it would play out in the next episodes but when Hopper was talking to Enzo in prison, he made reference to babies being born with crooked limbs and eyes popped out. He was referring (I think) to the side effects of the drugs him and his military colleagues were hamdling during the war and that it had caused the deformities in their unborn babies - however, for me, it is too much of a coincidence that this is Vecna's way of killing his victims. So my prediction is that this will factor in somehow.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 29/06/2022 07:26

Yes good thinking Clay, I noticed that too but I wasn't sure what the link was. Was Hopper talking about being it Vietnam? Would that work timeline wise? So the babies being born deformed would be sometime in the 70s? During Creel's time in Hawkins Lab?

Oh and I would be so gutted if Steve dies 😢 take Nancy, Jonathan or Lucas but not Steve!

@SirSamVimesCityWatch yes, it was Vietnam but my history is poor so no idea about where that fits in the timeline 🤪 but if Hopper is mid 40s and he was talking about going to war at about 19, that would put it in the 1960s and yes, i guess the soldiers would be starting families in the 1970s.

It was a throwaway comment in an emotional monologue but can't believe it wasn't put there for a reason.

I have a theory that Vecna will get Will and they've all grown so far apart from him, no one will know his favourite song anymore and he'll die.

flashpaper · 29/06/2022 07:45

Definitely think Steve is going. Apparently the guy who plays Eddie has already mentioned filming for s5, so he probably won't die, but not sure if there is room for 2 "big brother" characters.
Gutted. I love Steve.

FromEden · 29/06/2022 07:51

He's talking about agent orange, which was used in vietnam and did cause birth defects in tue children of those exposed, including bulging eyes and spina bifida. I think that's all he meant and it's nothing to do with vecna. Could be wrong though!

Noooooooooo! That would be heartbreaking!!

I don't think they'll kill off Will, it would be a bit weird narrative-wise to spend all season 1 and 2 saving him, to then bump him off season 5.

Maybe season 6 though?!

OP posts:
LizBennet · 29/06/2022 08:26

I didn't care much for the Eddie character, I hope he's not the saviour 😒
Hope Steve doesn't die, I have a horrible feeling it may be Will.

Igmum · 29/06/2022 08:37

I like Eddie but love Steve - we definitely need to start a Save our Steve campaign (and yes, I'd heard the rumours that he dies this time too - will be gutted, but they are totally setting him up to save Nancy who will then be reconciled with Jonathan- noooooo)

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/06/2022 08:51

Excellent thread OP! Thanks for starting.

I'm very worried for Steve Sad

But I love all your theories Grin

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 29/06/2022 08:52

Yeah I'm going to feel very short changed if we lose Steve but get Eddie as the consolation prize.

His hair is nowhere near as magnificent!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/06/2022 08:53

Except the Steve one obv!

I wonder why Vechna took Nancy in a different way and why he revealed his plan to her in particular?

CANNOT WAIT FOR FRIDAY. I've actually turned down a rare social invite out to stay in with DH and DD for the Big Night Grin

I think this has legs too.

DD noticed early doors that when Hoppers daughter died the hospital room was one of those in the lab and her teddy appeared in a later scene too. Wonder if that's relevant.
