Just read on a thread that dominos make donations to anti abortion groups 🙄 v annoying as if true I wouldn't buy from them, but my DS is a mega fan.

Who do you boycott and why?

OP posts:

Warburtons & soreen fruit loaves as they are Tory party donors.

Very old link though

evolvepolitics.com/stopfundingthetories-here-are-36-companies-youll-want-to-avoid-if-you-dont-want-to-unwittingly-fund-the-tories/

I largely avoid nestle, Coca Cola

(Nestle: Formula scandal, ceo claims water isn't a human right and slavery, coke: murdered trade unions, slavery)

I used it be big on boycotting palm oil, I still do avoid it but am not as ruthless as I was due to a variety of reasons.

I buy the majority of my clothes second hand, I do use TK Max but try to avoid high street fast fashion (well until there's a rare event and I'm in a last minute panic)

Macdonalds

Mr organic brand, I found a bird poo in my tinned tomatoes.

suzyscat · 24/06/2022 22:27

Oh and Wetherspoons.

suzyscat · 24/06/2022 22:28

And I'll never buy another dyson again but I might have to replace the cylinder if my son keeps dropping it Confused

Barrawarra · 24/06/2022 22:30

I don’t put a lot of energy into boycotting as I don’t always remember but I try to avoid Nestle because their formula behaviour and Israeli products because brutality in Palestine. Oh and the SNP now because they have abandoned women.

Mrsmch123 · 24/06/2022 22:31

I mean somethings annoy me but I've not boycotted anything🤷🏻‍♀️Honestly don't know if I can get worked up enough to actually boycott anything....

Purringcat3 · 24/06/2022 22:36

Lush - more so cause they won’t leave people alone. And they know this.

Frankie & Bennys (how in the fucks name does anyone still go in there?! It’s sheer microwaved shite in 3 mins 🤣)

YourWinter · 24/06/2022 22:41

Nestle (breast milk scandal, water extraction etc etc)
Sainsbury’s (TWANW)
Lush
The Body Shop
BP

Loads more but I’m tired and can’t think

Fawnia · 24/06/2022 22:42

Nuffield Health. They make me laugh when they parade themselves as a “charity”.

hobbledyhoy · 24/06/2022 22:42

Wetherspoons - treated his staff like shit during Covid and also filled his shithole pubs with pro-Brexit pamphlets
Dyson- pro-Brexit hypocrite who decamped afterwards to Singapore
Laurence Fox - because he's the chief of cock wombles
The Sun and the Daily Mail - liars who wouldn't know journalism if it hit them
Tesla - there's something about that man I just don't trust/like and convinced something strange is going to come out some day.

ShoppingBasket · 24/06/2022 22:46

Yorkie bars, must be nearly 20 years since they said not for girls. So I said fine! Loved them too 🤣 I think I might end the boycott tomorrow and have one as it's a bit long to hold a grudge!

HokeyK0key · 24/06/2022 22:48

You could reverse boycott instead by buying extra Tunnocks to support them after they were 'cancelled'.

Much more satisfying. 😋

User154871 · 24/06/2022 22:54

Lush, M&S, Innocent, Left leaning idiots in politics and their parties - women's rights.
The Sun - Hillborough
Right leaning idiots in politics and their parties - due to BJ etc and the mess they've made.
Wetherspoons

Chooksnroses · 24/06/2022 22:55

OhWifey · 24/06/2022 17:26

Nestle due to historic (and enduring, more subtly) appalling undermining of breastfeeding in developing countries.

You might think you do, but it seems they own half the world's companies, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nestl%C3%A9_brands

Chooksnroses · 24/06/2022 22:56

Dyson and Wetherspoons.

Specsavers... They actually don't care if you have a problem with your new glasses.

I think that was your particular branch. The one we go to has gone over and above for good service when DH struggled with his varifocals. He had to go back about three times, but they got it right.

I have eye problems and their eye testing is very thorough, not just for eyesight, but for eye health. They have referred me to the GP a couple of times recently. I really rate our local Specsavers.

Whitney168 · 24/06/2022 23:09

Those who avoid palm oil, is it not now recommended that you should buy sustainable palm oil?

I thought the view now was that as it’s such an efficient crop, avoiding it does more harm than good and is just likely to lead to even more deforestation - you should just ensure it is marked as sustainable (which is not perfect, but is tracked and improving).

Open to being re-educated, but I thought that was the current thinking?

beastlyslumber · 24/06/2022 23:11

Amazon, because I like the high street, small businesses etc and don't want to lose them.

Rare Birds bookshop in Edinburgh, because they only sell books by women (although they think that includes males who identify as women) and it pisses me off.

Ragwort · 24/06/2022 23:22

Amazon ... and most online retail if I can buy their product locally. I work in retail, on the high street, and it is so sad to see so many shops closing because people will buy online.

Thisbastardcomputer · 24/06/2022 23:23

Hobbs, ordered a cashmere jumper that arrived with a moth hole in the sleeve, they wouldn't replace it, just sent me a length of the wool to repair it myself.

Never spent another penny with them.

I bought all my work clothes there.

Ashhead24 · 24/06/2022 23:30

The body shop cos of how they treated JK Rowling. Lush cos their politics generally are awful. I really don't need shops telling me how to think, especially when that involves redefining what a woman is.

MushyPeasPrincess · 24/06/2022 23:30

@Chooksnroses that's a sodding long and depressing list of Nestle conquests. Hadn't realised they owned San Pellegrino. DH will be gutted - he loves their stuff.

We do our best to avoid them due to the water/baby milk history which is truly appalling but as you say, they own so many now. Will have to keep checking the list!

I have boycotted frankie and bennies, haven’t stepped foot in one in years!
i ordered a chicken tikka lasagne and it only had 3 small bits of chicken in!
I said something to the waitress but got shrugged at. I still hold a grudge over that as I was so looking forward to it!!

I would I boycott them for the chicken tikka lasagne being a thing on the menu alone

RainingYetAgain · 24/06/2022 23:36

Wetherspoons- Brexit
Lush- can't abide the smell when I walk past
Body Shop MLM mainly
I have started turning off radio shows with Rosie Jones and Shappi Khorsandi because of their tweets
Virgin mobile- cusomer service lied regularly.
Vegan stuff.

Parkrun. If its so inclusive and noncompetitive why do they have that damn bell and publish everyone's times? Its become a race like every other.

A race against yourself is how most people see it, not others.
