Just read on a thread that dominos make donations to anti abortion groups 🙄 v annoying as if true I wouldn't buy from them, but my DS is a mega fan.

I Boycott Albert Bartlett potatoes as Bartlett is the master of the fox hounds. I cant abide fox hunting or cubbing.

Me too.

For the fox hunting stance I also boycott Tyrell's crisps, Warburtons bread and Boden clothes.

Many brands for animal testing.... I actively choose 'green' brands.

Starbucks for funding Mermaids, ditto Children in Need.

Babyroobs · 24/06/2022 23:38

Macmillan since their report was released on how ethnic minority and disabled employees are treated in the organization. I will not donate to them again. Also our local KFC - all chicken/ meat is Halal which i find very cruel. local turkish takeaway who only accept cash and pay employees in cash - dodgy.

kieronsmum · 24/06/2022 23:40

from today Poundland

JanieAllen · 24/06/2022 23:47

reverse boycotted tunnocks

never set foot in the corrupt useless Tram in Edinburgh
Lush
Bodyshop
I'm afraid I still use M&S and John Lewis....

JanieAllen · 24/06/2022 23:50

oh and Amazon and flying

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 24/06/2022 23:51

Nestle - aggressive marketing of baby milk, especially in the developing world. Read the Politics of Breastfeeding of you want to understand it in more detail.
Shell - for their collaboration in the execution of Ken Saro Wiwa and other Ogoni leaders. I don’t think I’ve bought fuel from them in my 30 years of driving.

nooboonoo · 25/06/2022 00:31

@Justcallmebebes I always check labels and have been doing it so long now know which products do & don't have.

It is very frustrating to see things labelled "with olive oil!" And then the label reveals it also has palm oil - but no one would brag about that. You can't even buy palm oil for cooking in big supermarkets, yet it's a stealth ingredient in so many things.

Another positive side effect of avoiding it is means I don't even bother going down the confectionary aisle (Toblerone is good though!!) so eat far healthier as a result.

Tom Cruise in any film or chat show appearance because of his support for scientology . In fact I avoid any programme/film that I know has
any participant associated with that organisation. I do watch TV and listen to radio so it's hard to miss references to the latest hard sell/charm offensive though I switch off as quickly as possible. On the one hand it's a good lesson in the danger of 'charm' in covering up what I see as horrible wrong doing and on the other hand I acknowledge it is absurd to signal out one person or a group of public figures to boycott.
I mean that as far as I know there is no religion, business, educational, social or political group in history of the world that has not had its share of manipulation, lies, corruption, thieving, violence and exploitation and sought to keep it covered up as much as possible so why should I be bothered by this one?

WickedWitchOfTheEast87 · 25/06/2022 01:02

This thread is brilliant 🤣 Below are mine

Tom Cruise and all his films haven't watched them since his remarks about mental health and never will again!

Victoria's Secret after a staff member rudely told me that they don't cater to ladies my size never stepped foot in there again

EE when they were T-Mobile absolute piss poor customer service and kept adding extra charges I didn't incur

West Ham after they gave Kurt Zouma a slap on the wrist and made excuses for what he did! 😡😡

The BBC because they're utter hypocrites especially when they report on abuse stories despite the fact they covered up for Jimmy Savile for 50 years

Readinstead · 25/06/2022 01:48

Heart fm for replacing their regional breakfast teams with Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston.

powershowerforanhour · 25/06/2022 01:51

Oatly as per PP
RSPCA because of the Gill case- they only changed their approach after they lost their appeal (good!) because it made them look bad not because it was bad
Oxfam- child rapists

FrenchFancie · 25/06/2022 04:19

I don’t boycott anyone - it doesn’t have the desired effect usually. It’s better to engage with companies and seek to change their policies through dialogue.

when I was doing my masters I read about a brand of trainers (adidas I think but must check facts) who were discovered to be using sweat shop labour. Huge outcry in the west and the company pulled out of the factory with poor conditions. Yay! How good for the workers, right?

what actually happened was that the female workforce found themselves suddenly unemployed in an area with no jobs and no way of travelling ‘home’ and needing to support families. Large numbers turned to sex work and their lives were made much much worse.

so no, I don’t support boycotts because stuff like that happens. It’s better to work with companies / suppliers to improve supply chains. It’s why I support lush, for example, because they actively work to help potential suppliers stop testing on animals, rather than some of the other ‘cruelty free’ companies who won’t use a supplier if they previously tested on animals - the supplier therefore has no incentive to change.

MumofSpud · 25/06/2022 04:32

Pret A Manger
Barclays - went to open a joint account with them and my (Irish) DH had his passport with him as ID - he gave it to the bank worker and she said she couldn't accept it as it could be fake as she didn't know what it should look like.
Then she threw it at him (literally).
Because this would have been 20 years ago we didn't complain , just left went next door to Santander and had no problem!
These days we would be doing Daily Fail sad face and getting compensation!

Lengokengo · 25/06/2022 04:51

I used to boycott any products from a certain Southern Hemispheres country. This was after I was dumped by a boyfriend from said country.

This boycott started as a joke, as basically it amounted to 3 products (all food and drink). I kept it up for years as it just morphed into a habit.

Even now, more than 20 years later I still keep it up despite having had several boyfriends and a husband and kids since!

Lengokengo · 25/06/2022 04:54

Should clarify, I largely keep up the boycott, but Feel a bit ridiculous, so am less rigid than I was. It held odd if I ever get something from that country. Plus since it has traveled so far, the air miles aren’t great either.

JudyandPunch · 25/06/2022 05:40

Under Armour, for the founder’s support of Trump
Tesla, cannot stand Mollusk
BMW, after a very bad experience with their service department. I sold the car soon afterwards.
Starbucks
Nestle
Any company that covers their merchandise in plastic, like Shein
Amazon
USA - tricky as family is 1/2 American

Gosh, my list is very long! My kids roll their eyes when I start ranting on about principles.

Nat6999 · 25/06/2022 05:48

Currys PC World, I ordered a smart watch & earbuds, paid for premium delivery & they never arrived, it took a month of being on the phone all day every day to finally get my goods a month later. I found out afterwards that there have been so many complaints that there are Facebook groups from disgruntled customers.

Totally agree.

People boycotting Ryanair also puzzle me, you get exactly what it says on the tin, it either suits you or it doesn’t. I have had truly shit experiences with them - one Christmas I could actually have flown London to New York for less than they were charging London to Dublin - but I can’t say I didn’t know the risks.

SpringIntoChaos · 25/06/2022 08:28

Next...this is a recent thing, but their aggressive practices has really put me off. I emailed them too (not received a reply, but it made me feel better 🤣)

Ryan Air - for obvious reasons

The USA - I've had huge issues and conflicted feelings towards visiting ever since Trump (I have family there), but yesterday's ruling was the final nail in that particular coffin. I will NEVER set foot there again! Shit day for women yesterday...I can't even describe my horror!

Andante57 · 25/06/2022 08:32

Lush
Farmed salmon. It’s an appalling practice which gets little publicity.

Skinterior · 25/06/2022 08:46

Fraser group - awful treatment of staff
Boohoo / pretty little thing - slave Labour
Starbucks - Mermaids
Iceland - treated Downs relative like shit when she worked there
New Guards group (palm angels, off-white) no ethics
Wordle - NYTs treatment of JKR

Could be here all day

RampantIvy · 25/06/2022 08:58

Generally, I don't "boycott" any company, but there are companies I prefer to give my business to. For example I prefer to go shopping in real shops rather than buy online because I want to support the high street. I only buy from Amazon if I can't find what I want elsewhere. I choose to put my shopping through manned tills in supermarkets because I don't want people to lose their jobs.

I buy my meat, vegetables and eggs locally to support the farmers.

RampantIvy · 25/06/2022 09:01

Also, I agree with @FrenchFancie that boycotting companies just impacts the staff negatively. The bosses don't care.

Chooksnroses · 25/06/2022 09:01

MushyPeasPrincess · 24/06/2022 23:30

@Chooksnroses that's a sodding long and depressing list of Nestle conquests. Hadn't realised they owned San Pellegrino. DH will be gutted - he loves their stuff.

We do our best to avoid them due to the water/baby milk history which is truly appalling but as you say, they own so many now. Will have to keep checking the list!

@MushyPeasPrincess I worked for a company that felt as you do (In the care sector so buying a LOT of food etc., )and had an argument at a big meeting when I said it was impossible to avoid all their products. The manager who was arguing with me said "Just take a list of their products with you to the supermarket". I contacted Nestle and asked if they had a list of their companies. They sent me a very thick brochure, like a magazine, proclaiming which were their newest acquisitions, and listing every company. The one that stuck out in my mind was Branston Pickle, because they said "Branston has joined our family as one of the many products which will not change their name or labelling". In other words, "hidden" Nestle products.

BadLad · 25/06/2022 09:03

Boeing

Fucking LOL at this. Unless you do actually own your own airline.
